About Nicat BrightluckMale Halfling Bard (Arcane Duelist) 6
Background and Appearance:
“Son, I think you’d better get down from there.” “But I’ve been kissed by the Lady Desna! What could possibly go wrong? Oh- Whoah- Whoops!” CRASH! “Ouch! Well, that was close – I’m a lucky lad, eh?” “Could see it that way…” Nicat Brightluck took his second name out of a conviction that Desna herself favors him – and if you squint just right at his life story, you might agree. He has gotten himself out of more scrapes than you’d imagine such a small fellow could get into in the first place. Nicat grew up in Sandpoint, raised by hard-working folk in a simple home by the cliffs at Junker’s Edge, and there his mishaps began. As inquisitive as the day is long, and gifted with an agility that allowed him to penetrate quickly to the heart of trouble, he drove his parents to distraction with his seeming eagerness to end his life in a glorious misadventure while still a boy. At the age of ten he set off in a stolen dinghy to explore a wreck on the reefs off Chopper’s Isle, hoping to beat the scavenging goblins to whatever treasures it held. He returned alive, with no treasures, and having left behind the dinghy and a piece of his ear. But by his telling, the adventure was a tale of wild luck and good fortune, and he counted himself blessed as the only boy in town to wear a genuine goblin tooth on a string around his neck. His adolescence continued in this vein, and the people of Sandpoint were so amazed that he survived his own impulses, they could only mutter that he must surely be favored by Desna, the Lady of Luck. Nicat agreed with this view, and while still a youth, took the name Brightluck. At just 18 years, he has had enough broken bones and near misses for a normal person to consider themselves cursed by fate – but Nicat sees each near-calamity as further proof that Desna loves him and has great things in store for him. Nearly a year ago, he leapt at the chance to join up with a travelling caravan, thrilled at the prospect of new horizons, new adventures, and new opportunities to see what fate has in store for him. He didn’t exactly talk his way in, as he feared the caravan master would ask his parents, and they’d never let him go for fear he’d wreck the caravan with one of his exploits; he snuck into one of the wagons and hid until the next stop. When a crowd began to gather at the caravan’s arrival, Nicat picked up some stakes from a broken wagon wheel and began to juggle them. Trusting in his luck and natural agility, he challenged the audience to begin throwing in items for him to juggle. He was only struck once in the head, and even managed to catch a dagger and a bucket and work them into the routine. He’s been with the caravan ever since, doing odd jobs, juggling to entertain folks when the caravan stops, and trying to figure out if he can exert any control over his wonderful luck. Nicat is eager to return to Sandpoint and show off all he’s learned, see his family, and set out again on further travels. Nicat is small for his age, even for a halfling, having never grown even as tall as his mother. He stands less than three feet tall, and weighs perhaps 30 pounds after a big meal. His tousled black hair and green eyes make him attractive enough, though this effect is marred somewhat by the ragged edge at the top of his left ear. Even at rest, he exudes a wiry energy, often balanced on the balls of his feet and looking about for another opportunity to try his luck. He wears black leather armor so new it still creaks, a shiny longsword across his back, and two bright new daggers at his belt, though he has used them more for juggling than fighting. Kind to those around him, when he thinks of it, Nicat has little regard for the rules everyone is supposed to follow. He sees the world as an endless opportunity to explore and investigate, and can’t wait to get out and see it all. Useful Pastes:
