Background:

Thorgrund Stormcloud was born in the largest clanhold near the Kingdom of Thraydria. His father was a miner, and his father before him, and so on back as far as his clan could recite the histories. Over the years the clan owned several mines, and became rather prosperous amongst the clans.

But Thorgrund was different...he actually despised being underground. It stems from his first journey outside the clanhold when he was a small boy. While the sunlight was very bright at first, Thorgrund fell in love with the "hugeness" of the outside world. He volunteered after that for any trips to deliver the ores his family mined, becoming quite accustomed to being away from home for extended periods.

Others thought him odd, since Thorgrund expressed no interest in taking up mining, instead following in his uncles footsteps as one of the dwarven rangers that often accompanied the caravans. The old warrior taught Thorgrund all he knew about tracking, hunting, and even fighting. Once Thorgrund learned that the old dwarf had no sons of his own, Thorgrund began to think on him as a father figure.

Thorgrund's real father was angered at first by Thorgrunds' lack of interest in the family business, but eventually understood that Thorgrund would hate being stuck underground for most of his life. Besides, Thorgrund's younger brother was more of a businessman than he could ever be. Reluctantly, his father gave Thorgrund his blessing to leave the clan, but only under the condition that he relinquish the clan name. Thorgrund agreed, packing up his few meager possessions, and left the clanhold. As he emerged onto the surface, the weather was overcast and rainy, and Thorgrund gave himself a new clan-name - Stormcloud. He joined the old ranger on his travels, guarding caravans to many new lands, in the direction of all the compass points.

A few years ago, while guarding a caravan to xxx, a pair of owlbears attacked. The uncle was fatally wounded, but before he died, he gave to Thorgrund his prized waraxe, an heirloom from a now extinct line of warriors. Thorgrund vowed to Kols the Oathkeeper that he would wield the weapon with honor, protecting the innocent and helpless. He renamed the waraxe "Vengryn", which means "Vengeance" in dwarvish.

In typical dwarven fashion, Throgrund fell into a deep melancholy upon the death of his uncle. He realized that his homeland held too many bitter memories, so returning home was out of the question. He and the survivors of the caravan arrived in the capital of Thraydria, and Thorgrund found he liked the city. But his restlessness resurfaced, and he longed to venture out. Mercenary work was easy to come by, and he began hiring himself out as a guide/bodyguard to those who could afford his services. Learning the lay of the land, he soon made friends in several places, earning trust and respect.

On a recent outing, Thorgrund freed a female wolf from a hunters snare. Thinking nothing of it, he has noticed that the wolf seems to follow him often, albeit at a distance. He has taken to calling her Kira.
