Murderer and Merchant, Gautier Bonnet

For Raphael:
Assuming you meant real lawyer, not real warrior.

Gautier, when collected, seems much like a normal, cheery person, despite his predicament. “There was an, um, other lawyer. Least what she said she was, um, around eight days back.” He pauses, thinking. “She - she just sat down, looked at me, and said my final mission was to tell the next lawyer those words. Lady made it sound like it was going to be the end of me. What, what a relief, right? Glory to Durendal!

After asking him a second time, Gautier tells you that “they” are who he’s given his entire life to. He proudly claims to be part of "The Reclaimers,” and declares their murder of the Galatian royals as the first of many actions to return Durendal to its former glory.

He tells you that he’s done his role in giving his message, and that it is time for you to do your task. He says he is glad he got "one of those blonde b****es," and looks forward to being judged on Durendale soil. He shouts, calling the Guardsman, telling them he no longer requires his lawyer.

For Raphael:
You’ve never heard the phrase before, but as you utter it aloud, Gautier changes before your very eyes. Before you could finish saying his name, the man straightens up violently. His grimace uncurls, and though tears still line his face, he is emotionless. He blinks.

If you wish to fetch a guard, you may. In addition, you can react however you like. Gautier will state the following no matter your reaction.

Raphael Montefiore - this is a scripted compulsion, do not attempt to respond or question monsieur Bonnet, he knows no details of the following. You and your actions have obtained the attention of our Organization. Whether you agree with our methods or cause is not this contact's concern, the purpose of this compulsion is to create a dialogue between you and our Organization.

Gautiuer pauses. Except his mouth, the man has yet to move since sitting up straight. “On the last day of the month, we will be waiting at 113 North Wall Road at 2:15 PM. You may bring anyone you feel necessary to ensure your safety. At the site of any Guardsman however, your chance will be forfeit, and you will be deemed a foe of our Organization.

Location added to City map, big purple circle.

Again, the prisoner pauses. His eyes are unmoving, staring directly at Raphael. “By taking Gautier’s case, you’ve already shown promise among the ranks of our Organization. If you fail to attend our meeting, further measures will be taken to determine your relationship to our cause. I look forward to meeting with you, monsieur Montefiore. Glory to Durendal.

When the message stops, Gautier blinks once more. His hands rise, and a large grin stretches across him. Tears begin to flow once more. “Gods, I’m - I’m still alive! I’m alive! Glory to Durendal!” His laughs echo the room. Eventually, he recovers, wiping away his tears of joy, looking to his lawyer. “They - They want me alive! Which means you’re the real lawyer! You- You’re going to save me!

Spoiler:
The prisoner struggles to speak. His voice comes out hoarse between sobs.. “Please… I, I just, just need to... The message… I, I need to write it. ” He still appears afraid, almost horrified, but it doesn’t seem to be from you. You aren't keen on any reason why he'd be acting this way.

He has an aura, but you can't place your finger on the school. It might be something the Guard cast upon him, either a lingering effect from interrogations or to keep him passive or unable to escape. Your file says he cannot cast spells, and there are few ways that someone outside the Guard could place a spell on him if outside the headquarters.

To Raphael:
Gautier Bonnet appears as though he doesn’t want to talk to you, strange considering that he specifically sent his request to your offices. The man isn’t allowed to be outside of Guard custody, and the Guards insist on being stationed nearby, just past closed doors of the plain, square room they placed the two of you in.

Gautier’s face is gaunt and pale, his eyes appear glazed over, and have dark circles underneath. He has been tortured, certainly so, but you wonder about the extent to what the inquisitors have affected your witness. His hands are bound in shackle. When you say your name, he repeats it back to himself several times over. “Raphael Montefiore. Montefiore. Montefiore. The lawyer I asked for...

His voice is a hoarse whisper. His eyes search you. He appears afraid. “C-Can I have a quill? I have t-to - I need to write something.

If you do:
He writes quickly, frantically really. The words are large, the lines all crooked. “Glory to Durendal” he writes. “C-Can you, you, s-say that for me, me, my, lawyer? ” He begins to sniffle, his eyes welling up. “Please. I need you, to, to say that... Please, just, exact, exactly how it’s written...
