For some reason the pdf version isn't showing up on my downloads (long term maps subscriber) and e-mails to customer support have so far not gotten any replies. Anyone knows what's going on?

Just got my pawns in and had a look thru them. One thing that's nice is that there are many characters for which we receive multiple copies. That said, a few of the choices on who received multiple pawns left me wondering what sorts of games the Paizo staff play behind closed doors.

Lots of recruits and initiates? Looks legit.
1 barmaid and 4 lawyers? *eyebrows rise*

:P

Sebastian, Clark Peterson, myself ... who's the 4th Horsema...I mean, Legal Wrangler?

First, we kill all the lawyers. Roll initiative!

I banned clerics and bards as PC's in my campaigns. The guy communing with the God's through prayer? He's not healing you in between troll bites, he's thirteen leagues away...you'll see him at the end of the adventure.

Makes the party plan, and be careful. Healing is through potions, and heal checks. Can get scary fast. Granted, I use a HP/ Vigor and Wound point system, but...

And I cannot abide bad musicians in the middle of an intense battle. Lame. They are NPC's, to drive the story, give legends and flavor and history, and even bonuses that show up in later battles. (a cleric blesses you in your fight against the goblins, you head to the dungeon...and trigger it as a swift action, by mumbling a quick prayer. A bard gives you bonuses in a similar fashion.)

I love the alignment removal. This is what I use already, but formally written down. Awesome!

Revive is great, I'm yoinking and adapting.

I give professionalism to all characters. And untrained knowledge checks are just +10 DC.

Great stuff!

Check the Bard alternate archetypes. I dunno why anyone would ever play a vanilla Bard, but there's fun to be had in the alternates.

The platforming can get somewhat repetitive, the combat not so much so.

It is, however a beautiful, intriguing game, with some of the best art/character design I've seen in a while. The plot is also mature in the right kind of way and goes places where games fear to tread.

Until you read yesterday's and today's news and find out about all the new bugs the crept in. Especially for the Rosseta breaking 10.6.8 security update.

Not the best quality control going on over at Apple form software right now.

Can't speak for that (who uses PPC software anymore anyway?), but the Preview bug is fixed.

I know for a fact that today's release of Mac OS X 10.7.3 fixes completely and for good the bugs that were causing the computer to blow steam like crazy and become far too slow when many paizo pdf files were opened in Preview.

It works as it should now, certainly far smoother than Adobe Reader does.

Hope that helps.

Ok, to whom it may concern.

We got already four people in, including me and another one who will GM (him more than me, probably).

Plan is to begin playing on Saturday 2/11/2012, in the afternoon, somewhere in the San Jose area.

We ALSO plan to meet on Saturday 2/4/2012, 2:00PM at Game Kastle in Santa Clara to discuss setting, players, time and place to play etc. We did meet last Saturday but with the last minute time change it was a little disorganized. We're not making that mistake again, if the other GM can't make it at the scheduled time, I will be there.

Parking was tight last Saturday but it was probably due to some new magic cards coming out. Still, if anyone wants a ride from San Jose Diridon or downtown let me know and I'll arrange to pick up.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO COME NEXT SATURDAY (or if that can't be, to the game proper a week later). Especially those who have already shown their interest, but not limited to them.

RSVP appreciated although I won't die if you forget to post and happen by on Saturday.

Feel free to let me know if you need to know anything else. You can also contact me directly at oscarmv at mac dot com if needed.

Apologies and good gaming.

Óscar.

Tried it already. Not my thing, didn't help too much.

Good luck anyway :)

I'm jammed up on Friday as well. I'm really interested in joining up with you folks on Saturdays though.
Come to think of it if both of you can meet on Saturday we can do exactly that. RSVP fast and I'll let the other two folks know about the change of plans/additional meeting (depending on whether they've got someone for Friday).

Correction: we're scheduled to meet tomorrow SATURDAY 2:00 PM at Game Kastle. Apparently everyone already in found it a better time.

So hope any or both of you two can make it.

I, unfortunately, cannot make this Friday. It's just a previous commitment for that specific day, so should not affect my involvement thereafter. Saturday's should work fine for me as well.

Let me know if I would still be able to participate since I can't make the initial meetup. Here is my contact info** spoiler omitted **

No problem, I'll let you know what transpires on Friday and we can meet at some other time afterwards or when the game starts.

Well, including you it's three I guess. Enough to start something, although probably not to fill a full adventuring group :P

I'm trying to get in contact with one of the players from my last attempt at a campaign, he's pretty much in the same wavelength as us here, from what I read from Laughing Goblin at least. That would make it four and probably more worth starting something.

MLM: Keep up posted on things, I would love to see if we can work something out.

Ok, we got something tentatively going on. It's me, someone who I met in another board, and the guy I mentioned earlier from my prior campaign. If we manage to get a couple more people we have a full group, even with just one more we got something worth starting an adventure with.

Current plan is to meet next Friday, 7:30 PM at Game Kastle and see if everyone is in the same wavelength, figure out campaign premise, build a group etc. Everyone who's in so far adjusts pretty well to Laughing Goblin's manifesto above.

The plan is to play every other week. Currently aiming for Saturday but everyone who's in so far can adjust to any other time in the weekend.

If anyone wants to come, feel welcome. RSVP appreciated, and if more details are wanted let me know and I'll send in better contact info.

Have a good game everyone!

I'm local to Silicon Valley except when I'm not--I'm up in Tahoe for the ski season (whenever it starts) and will be back around May. I will be having an opening in my regular Pathfinder game then due to a player moving to NM, but that's obviously not here and now for new gaming.

I'd suggest checking The Bay Area Dungeons & Dragons Meetup Group which is where I found a number of my players over the years and also go to Game Kastle in Santa Clara.

Also, I would attend DunDraCon next month which is the area's oldest gaming convention. That would let you scout out local players and find people who mesh with your personal style.

Oh trust me, I've tried all of those. The Bay Area D&D group seems pretty dead-ish these days (the admin apparently disappeared for half of last year or something, I wasn't admitted into it until five months after applying), as for Game Kastle, neither its real nor virtual presence appear to have a critical mass. You post something, you get a reply after a month, another one after another month and by the time enough people have replied the first ones who did have died of old age or found something else elsewhere or just taken up hardcore origami instead of roleplaying.

Other than the con, that is (haven't been here that long). I may check it out, schedule permitting.

I moved down to San Jose in September 2011 (from Portland), and have been running into similar difficulties finding a group. Please keep me in the loop with any leads you come across, I will do the same.

I think I have a similar mindset to you:
- Combat that moves the story along is good; hack and slash for the sake of hack and slash i bad.
- I want to play in a living, breathing world, that my character is a part of, not the center of. Whether such a world is homegrown or soemthign well known and published matters little to me.
- Rules shouldn't get in way of the story, but are still essential architecture to frame the execution of the story. I've enjoyed the Pathfinder ruleset the most, but am not entirely opposed to other options (though would favor a system Iam familiar with to learning something new from the ground up).
- I am capable of GMing, have done so many times in the past. while I would greatly prefer taking a break from the big chair and playing, I have no issue with a rotation type of system.

A man of my own thinking! I can live with that.

One of the issues I've seen is that everyone will post in these forum threads but by the time enough people have done so so long has passed that the first few have already found something elsewhere or have decided to take hardcore knitting.

So tell you something, if one more person posts here within a couple days we all meet in some coffee shop and see if we can get something rolling. I don't mind a game with only a couple players as long as both make it to the sessions consistently, more can be added later. Besides when it comes to a running campaign with adult players, experience shows that it is pretty much needed to always be on recruiting mode. Some players don't work out well, life makes other leave as well, so it is very hard to keep a fully staffed game going for long if there's no effort made to add more people to it to a the point of slight overstaffing.

Moved to the area in April 2011 and finding a good game has been much harder than I expected, maybe the right people will read this.

I've been at this for a while and like to play interesting characters through interesting stories. Better to have too little combat than too much and better to have an interesting group than a balanced one. I'm slightly allergic to cliche overuse which tends to make me prefer homegrown worlds and homegrown adventures, but done right I mind not either. Pathfinder rules are preferred but I'd contemplate others if the campaign seems interesting enough.

I can also GM although things being as they are with work I'd rather not do it often (I've played several campaigns with rotating/changing GMs and have had no problem with the arrangement). I'd happily help something get started.

Have a good game everyone!

The GameMastery Flip-Mat: Tavern is only 1 single file for both versions
I've fixed this product so that it will only display the single file download. Flip-Mats, since there's only 2 pages in the file, have one download option available.

I'm not sure if I was the only one, but I found the one page per file option more useful for the flip mats too.

There's ways to get around it but I'd rather just download the two maps in separate files.

Alright, the albums arrived today while I was at work. I just got home and filled-up one of the two that I had ordered. Since seeing is believing, I took some photos and uploaded them so you can evaluate this solution for yourselves.

TL;DR: They work.

** spoiler omitted **

No offense taken, admittedly I would have been nervous to take the plunge and try without assurances had I been in your shoes.

Now let's hope the Truth spreads and people can store their Map-Packs in style going forward :P

Laithoron wrote:

Oof! Guess I better cancel my order as well. :(

Oh well, it was a nice thought...

EDIT: Gah, too late. >.<

RE-Edit: Hmm, so looking at the interior photos, it LOOKS like the pockets load from the side and that there is a fairly wide margin abutting the spine. If that's the case then these might just work. I'll post a photo when they arrive on Wednesday to illustrate success or failure.

*crosses his fingers...

I wouldn't have posted to the forums if I wasn't sure it works. I have two of them full and plan to order a couple others now that I've ordered the rest of the ones I didn't have (subscriber discount running out at the end of September and all that).

The 5x8 cards protrude a little from their pockets but there's enough 'memo space' to accommodate for that easily.

Drogon wrote:

Excellent suggestions from everyone.

Anyone have any ideas that are just as good for Flip-Maps?

flip-mats are pretty sturdy so I generally just have them in a bag.

As I start having too many of them I might just get a three ring binder and put them in standard sheet protectors.

I suppose they don't give you visibility, but are quite handy, when paired with something like these:

Dividers

I had a similar setup but wanted something that would let me peruse all the maps more quickly, especially the multi-part ones, as it takes a bit of time once I figure out the kind of encounters and settings the adventure will be around to find the right maps to use when preparing the game.

Ah didn't see the GameMastery category for the message boards. Damn this place is big...

2 people marked this as a favorite.

This will work.

It will store up to ten of them per album, and since there's four visible at a time you can also arrange them to see how most of the various multi-part maps look put together.

Hope that will be useful for other people too.

We've been using the deck for a while and liking it very much thank you, and I'm thinking of getting my own deck (the player who has the deck often forgets to bring it in).

The only problem I have is that we're not sure what to do with critical hits when causing nonlethal damage (which is a problem for me as my character refuses to really hurt people unless absolutely necessary). Blunt crits seem often the better fit but a bunch of them are too destructive anyway.

I'm guessing the deck won't be revised any time soon to add an extra category, so I'd like to know what other people have done faced with the same issue.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Add a +1 to the general "Halflings and gnomes all look the same to me" argument.

I personally don't mind if whichever one is changed for its mental bonus needs a slight modification to their flavor. They already are occupying mostly the same niche right now. I appreciate tying the gnomes further to the fey, but still more effort should be made to differentiate the two races flavor-wise.

I'd personally give +2 Wis to the halflings and make ranger a favored class instead of bard. Make halflings communitarian but self-sufficient (it comes with the small size), with a favored class for each city/rural environment.
