Personality
Mwenye tries very hard to act like he imagines a silver dragon would act--noble, sympathetic, kind, but ready to fight when needed. He's not always successful--he'll be the first to admit he doesn't always keep a cool head--but he's fairly good at it.
Background
Mwenye was born in a small catfolk clan native to the eastern portion of the Mwangi Expanse. While still a cub, he discovered there was something different about himself--he could instinctively summon forth magic to accomplish many things that should have been beyond a young catfolk's abilities. His clan was quite welcoming of this talent, but Mwenye gradually withdrew into himself, growing obsessed with exploring this power, convinced that it held some deep secret to who he was and what his purpose in existence might be.
His clan had little contact with the outside world, but they had some vague idea of great cities to the north. When meditation and self-reflection failed to give him the answers he sought, Mwenye set out to find these fabled places. His journey was difficult and dangerous, but in time he found a band of explorers returning from the depths of the jungle, and, after a few tense moments while they questioned him, they let him tag along.
Mwenye explained his quest to some of the explorers, and one of them spoke of sorcerers, of how they tapped into power from their ancestry or stranger sources much like him. The young catfolk was almost beside himself with excitement at hearing there were others like him, and he begged all the knowledge of sorcery from his traveling companions he could. He was disappointed to find they knew little more.
It was not until they reached Tephu in Osirion that Mwenye was able to find answers to many of his questions, but it was a difficult journey for a penniless young catfolk. One of the explorers had mentioned the grand library in the city as a place of knowledge, but without coin or the ability to read, it was beyond his grasp. And so for years Mwenye scraped by, taking whatever work to which he could apply his magical talents in order to earn the coin for another scroll or book, which he used in his quest for literacy. Slowly, he learned to decipher the letters and symbols, but he still did not find the answers he sought.
At last, he felt confident enough in his literacy to spend the money asked for entry to Tephu's great library. And it was there he at last found the answer--dragons. The very first text he read on sorcery mentioned draconic influence as a commonly claimed source of magical talent, and as soon as he read those words, Mwenye knew that a dragon was the source of his power.
He proved to be a ravenous reader, studying every text the library had on dragons and sorcery as quickly as he could get the money for return trips. It was in this study that he ran across a reference to an odd order of warriors, who strove to emulate dragons in their fighting styles. When Mwenye ran out of texts to read, he determined he would set out to find these dragon monks.
When at last he found them, they were not at all what he had imagined... and yet, something about them called out to him. And so Mwenye joined their ranks, finding new ways to call upon his draconic ancestry through training his body as well as his mind. But even this could not satisfy him forever. The more he sought to become like a dragon, the more he wanted to act like a dragon--a silver dragon, like his ancestor, who, in his imagination, must have been a great defender of the weak.
Impelled by this thought to apply his skills, Mwenye departed and sought out evil to fight. He found it easily enough, and has, for the past year, defeated many minor villains with spell and fist. But when he heard of the great evil growing near Mistthorne, he knew he had at last found his calling. He would go there, and by the might of the dragon within him, he would be evil's downfall.
Appearance
Mwenye looks roughly like a humanoid leopard, wearing simple, worn traveling clothes.
