”Promptly, unless you can think of something to prepare for right away.”. Yordan pulls a vial of alchemists fire out of his back, bracing his glacier with his left hand.
"A way out? Let's burn this monstrosity to the ground then. Shall we retreat and prepare or deal with it promptly?"
"Ah..I see..I see..a particularly fungal infestation. And yellow in colouring implying some connection, perhaps, to the yellow-robed cultists wandering around? Or the yellow sign? I should have studied more colour theory." Mrakala makes no attempt to move closer. "Perhaps we should conduct some experiments...does anyone have a very long wooden rod?"
The wizard claps a hand on Yordan's shoulder. He shakes his head, glaring at Rocksauce. "Let's see what we find, Yordan. Fritz, the young one needs counsel but I do not think we can bring it to her today. As Winter says, this discovery is very concerning. We need to find a way out of this place for ourselves and these poor people." Mrakala will move toward the curtained off area but will wait there until the others join him.
"I really dislike that girl."

With a grimace, Mrakala nods toward Fritz. "Yes, with the power of his deity behind the blows as well. He barely left a scratch. He also suffered a grievous blow to his spirit from the creature. We would appreciate it if you would let him rest in the Chapel tonight?"
Winter's interest puts Mrakala on guard. The wizard was experiencing elements of paranoia after all the traps and mishaps that had occurred thus far. He shakes his head, shedding the irrational fears and moves toward Winter. "Horrid things," he begins. "We went to where Fritz detected strong auras of evil. We sought to slay what we found there and, with that hope, clear the way out for all of us." The middle-aged man leans against the archway, his face haggard. "Such was our folly. We strode confidently forth and discovered a man...no. A creature, something not covered in any of Plotinus's Planar Evils, Themistius's Original Sins, nor even Scamander's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It was something wholly unknown to me. it looked to be human but odd. Pale and bloated like a dead corpse. He wore black robes and a wide hat with bright, gleaming yellow eyes. It's face was puffy and it's voice..off. " It had a companion..but we did not get a good look at the thing. It was angular and tall. I believe it was carving something or performing some sort of surgery but...I am grasping at ideas. It asked us about a Yellow Sign, do you know what it could have meant?"
Approaching the barrier, Mrakal looks at the guards. "We have some important information we'd like to share with Winter. Could you tell her we need to speak?"
Have to search once I get back in there... does anyone else see any problems with this? Not at all, maybe you can find a secret door or something useful.
"I don't think you made the wrong initial decision, Fritz. We do not know what insidious thoughts the creature could have instilled in us had we had a prolonged conversation with it. I wish there was something..anything..I could recall from a book that would help in this situation."
In the hallway, Mrakala leans one hand on the wall, keeping his eye on the door as others begin to retreat his way. "I do not know what that thing is. I would not be surprised if it was the source of all that befalls this hospital. I can not recall having read anything about such a creature before."
The wizard nods his head, opening his mouth. Seeing the state Fitz is in, he blinks. "..No, I must have been mistaken." He says before turning and retreating 90 feet. "We don't need to be that close to speak, creature! Fitz, I suggest running!"
"Yordan, we have seen its reminder in many places. The cultist in yellow. The Pale One's dream entity. And..my memory fails me but I know one of us at least has seen this yellow sign directly, before."
DM Only: The old man shivers as if a wind moves through the room as the creature stares down at him. He tries to clutch at his memories, trying to recall all of the pieces that seem so connected and yet...not yet being able to piece them together.
"We have seen the Yellow Sign." The wizened wizard warily wonders aloud.
"Well this certainly looks ominou--Oh we're murdering them first and asking questions later? Alright."
The wizened mage will throw out a hand toward the tall, humanoid figure with what he suspects is a scalpel in hand. If he has line of effect to the creature behind the curtain, he'll try to knock it down with a Daze spell. DC 15 if its HD even fits the spell (4HD).
Moving back to the other room Fritz does the evil again
Those things don't live long without a host. Keep your eyes open, anyone we encounter may be a victim to one. ..They also shouldn't be in a place like this."
He'll go ahead and try to head it off with a snowball. Mrakala's fingers curve and a ball of ice appears in the air, streaking toward the creature. for Target must make a Fort save DC17 (5INt+1level+1 for it being a creature he can identify with his Talisman of Revealing) or be staggered.
"Don't let it come near you." The wizard calls out as he moves back a step, hand rising up, fingers curled to start a spell. "Deep sea incutilis, likely from another plane. Its feelers are covered in a paralytic poison and it will try to burrow into your brainstem for food and a way to control a new host." His words are tinged with a bit of horror but he speaks in a steady, level tone. DM
Who ever thought it would come in handy so often.
"Back away! Whatever it is, it's dangerous! Shoot it with something from further away." His warning may be too late to really do anything, but he figures he'll share the information. "Whatever it is reads as an abomination, some monstrosity that will likely try to devour us in some capacity."
The old man lets out a resigned sigh and leans against the wall. "Thank you Ghelik for having sense. I believe this may be the third time we've almost had something unfortunate occur due to recklessness." While Kyleen gets ready to turn the body over, he'll sacrifice Hypnotism to use his Talisman of Revealing ability to cast detect aberrations across the area to reveal any elder mythos creatures. Talisman of Revealing reminder:

"Last time you touched something we said not to, you ended up possessed by a spirit. Let's not repeat that again, shall we?" Mrakala's arrogant voice drips with disdain.
"Let's check the other areas first then. We can check the..evil presence and the curtained area last."
I agree with these marching orders. I've slowed down due to stressors at work and my wife being away. I have no idea how single parents handle rambunctious children and full time jobs alone all the time..can't wait till she's back!
She doesn't seem to particularly like me...I'll keep an eye on 'Jug' while you speak with her. Let me know if you find out anything useful, hm? We may want to investigate, without risking our sanity or lives, that force behind the door. If we have to, anyway. ...Also, why don't we simply try and find a way to one of the exits?" Glancing to Ghelik, he frowns a bit. "We can't forget to keep an eye to the sky and ceiling after what you saw and what happened to Yordan."
"Rocksauce.." Mrakala growls and rolls his eyes. "She seems to know more than she should. Did you figure out why when she spoke to you, Nameless?" He sighs and looks toward the protected archway. "We need to find a way out of this place and can't do it by staying here. Perhaps we should go exploring again."
Mrakala will follow Ghelik in the morning. His eyes look clearer than before, the bags gathering beneath less pronounced. "It might be best for her to tell us all at the same time, so she doesn't need to repeat anything, Ghelik."
Mrakala keeps his distance from "Jug" and keeps an eye on him.
Ye-ess, that is a problem. Maybe we could have him...put them off? Like they are known but can't be prepared and once he has access to a blank/fresh spellbook he can write them down?
I'd say stick to bard and take the free spiritualist level as a bonus. Mainly because you've already allocated your stat points to fit as a bard and bards don't multiclass very well.
I think we did choose average or roll in the Way of the Wicked campaign. Mrakala will stick to wizard. +1 Wizard level
+2 spells known(So..can these be recorded on like...random pieces of parchment? Mrakala's spellbook already has all pages used and we're not in a place we could purchase another..) Skills: (2+5Int)

It's enjoyable just..kinda..bulling head-long into situations.
Random, but Bundle of Holding has Shadow of the Demon Lord as their RPG at the moment. The dark/mature themes seem like something DMDM might like. I've heard nothing but praise for the system itself although I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Will likely end up buying it when I get home.
Mrakala is more than willing to explain to her the large-sized choker on the ceiling, the evil force beyond the door in the laundry, the chained state of the ghoul and Jug, and the soul-sucked corpse that Yordan found.
"One of the inmates? That's more than disturbing..and I take it this man was one of the guards or other employees?" Looking back to Fitz and the others, Mrakala frowns. "It's not something hiding on him that I'm terrified of. It's the idea he may be harboring a magical-based disease that spreads a madness of some kind through unknown methods."
Oh hm..I forgot Mrakala's archetype has Talisman of Revealing. He can sac a prepared spell to cast Detect Aberrations except it detects "Bhole, colour out of space, deep one, deep one elder, denizen of Leng, elder thing, flying polyp, gug, hound of Tindalos, Leng ghoul, Leng spider, mi-go, nightgaunt, ratling, shantak, shoggoth, spawn of Yog-Sothoth, star-spawn of Cthulhu, voonith, wendigo, and yithian. And similar creatures up to GM’s discretion." Do you all think he should use that on the cultist?
Glancing to Yorke, Mrakala smiles. "I made the same argument to my compatriots not ten minutes ago, Sergeant. Specifically that he might be capable of a lot of harm. ...I wonder though, you say "follower of Zandalus," as if you know what that means. Would you mind sharing that information? I haven't heard the name before. Perhaps we can work together to do...something...about this if our allies insist on bringing him into our midst."
"Yordan, what is that...on your shoulders?" Mrakala keeps an eye on the ceiling as they make a retreat to the sanctuary. |
