DM: I’m fine with that from an RP standpoint and will be happy to play it. I have a few ideas on how to clear it. It may be time for some plane hopping.
I once had a different PFS character fight Cthulhu at a Con as a joke (the fight was not part of a scenario, it was mostly meant to be a joke) but the character survived the aura, beat Cthulhu's SR with dweomers essence, death wine and greater pen, then Cthulhu nat 1’d his save vs a magic jar. Now this did not kill Cthulhu due to his ability to resurrect himself, but the character was pretty happy with themself. 4 years latter that character had been taken up to level 19 within PFS and one of my friends wanted to run a homebrew capstone for a group of us. (Outside of PFS, but with our PFS characters). As part of this capstone, the character fought Cthulhu once more and this time used trap the soul to make it permanent. I guess what I’m saying is, Ahriman and his touch are likely to remain a recurring theme in Mr. Madison’s future. If and when he does rid himself of the curse, I’ll PM you to let you know how it transpired.

That was an unexpected gift. I don’t think any other scenario has done that. Do they do that no matter what? As long as Tahiri is defeated? Or only if most of them live?

Wagging Horus’s tail, Mr. Madison trots over and observes the goings on. Perhaps someone realizes, perhaps not. As the sages offer to raise his body, the dog seems almost to smile. He had back up plans, but perhaps they won’t be needed. Perhaps powerful friends are even better. He decides to wait around during the casting of raise dead on his body, sending his soul back to his body and causing his death just before the raise dead completes. It is not every day that you get to watch your own body brought back to life. It’s somewhat of a moot point because of the generousity of the sages. But, Mr. Madison does not die until his magic jar ends by sending his soul back to his body. Does this make him eligible for breath of life, as he has died within one round? Probably varies based on DM. Thoughts? If so, then he would make his condition clear to the sages so they could bring him back more cheaply. I guess it depends on whether breath of life has more to do with the processes of the body or the departure of the soul.

Surveying the situation for a split second, Madison sees that the mindscape is entered and that he is not in the body he was hoping for. When this is done take the jewel near my dog. With that he pops out of Jing’s body and back to the jewel.

Radek, if she is still in the force sphere on your next turn, you can delay if you want to and have Amenophus d-door you in. If madison gets a body (ant, cockroach or otherwise) he will dismiss the force sphere.

Amenophus readies an action for when he has line of effect to her. Either she comes out or Sinuhotep dispels the force sphere. He will cast lightning bolt. On his turn, Mr. Madison will reach his soul out into any animal body in range Weakest soul powered by positive energy around. Spider, ant, dog, scorpion, lice, he does not care.

If Barnaby can get to Casandra, she has the scroll of breath of life, which could heal her up. Then she could heal Jing up. Barnaby has a high enough UMD that he should be able to pull this off, especially with inspiration. Sinuhotep can attempt to dispel the sphere. And Amenophus can blast Tahiri (if the sphere is dispelled) or the grave knight with 15 force damage. The force damage should get her attention away from the PCs.

I had thought that Torch was at full health. I probably missed it but had he taken damage earlier or was he just one shotted by the spell (assuming exploding head)? Amenophus's action will depend on if I am able to grab the grave knight or not.

I ran a play by post last game day where one of the PCs was built around attacks of opportunity and being able to use them to do a variety of things. I ended up asking him for a flowchart because it became too much. I think I may make it a standard practice in the future.
Male Kitsune (always in human form) Sorc 11 (Fey bloodline) , HP 79/79, Init +19 (+23), F 10, R 7, W 11 (+1 against poisons or diesease)
If getting attacked, Mr. Madison normally throws up a force sphere which I think should be able to include the entrance to the mindscape. Torch is not the only one with defensive spells ;). If possible, I would do that and then enter the mindscape on my turn. The reason I stayed outside the mindscape instead of entering it at the end of my turn was to be able to protect my body or the jewel with a force sphere if needed, but I did not want to cast it if I did not need to as it takes a standard action to dismiss and being trapped sucks ;) Actions taken off turn (especially immediate ones) are hard to do by play by post.
Male Kitsune (always in human form) Sorc 11 (Fey bloodline) , HP 79/79, Init +19 (+23), F 10, R 7, W 11 (+1 against poisons or diesease)
in the mindscape:
Mr. Madison wastes no time. Amenophus, arise! Now is your opportunity. Now your moment. It is time to reverse Ill fortune and prove your worth!
If that doesn’t work, he tries a slightly different tack, Your order needs you, your friends need you, no time for self pity. Let’s do this together. If even that does not work, Mr. Madison resorts to his strong mind magic, which should work fine here. I see in the hand out that sages automatically make their saves in combat. If it is ok to not consider inside the mindscape combat, then Mr. Madison will cast a spell, suggestion. If the suggestion is very reasonable, then the DC is 32. If not then it is 30. He probably needs a nat 20 to save. Personally, I think it’s pretty reasonable, but he may not. . Suggestion:Arise from your stupor, fill your heart with courage and let’s go win this fight. Mr. Madison is not above mind controlling a sage, especially if it is to get their head right. Diplomacy +23/25, Diplomacy+23/25, Suggestion spell DC 30/31/32 Everyone if Mr. Madison succeeds: Mr. Madison five foot steps to the final mindscape and saysI got this last one handled. I’ll jump in on my next turn.

Radek, we have almost all the gems. If someone is unable, ill pay for the raise deads, let’s not destroy any gems. Mr. Madison is very near retirement anyways so can chip in. I feel like a fight this hard has got to have a pretty cool boon.

Sinhotep needs to attempt to dispel the sirocco, first. Rushing over to Amenophus’s mindscape, Torch yells, Noo, give me one chance! as he jumps into it. Giving it one last shot at getting Amenophus out.

With a downward wave Torch drops the force sphere. He looks down for a second at the mangled chest of the body at his feet before moving to the center of the circle. If activating the force sphere will block an attack, it will be cast again.

survive coup de grace? Need a 20: 1d20 ⇒ 13 Mr. Madison’s body is now actually dead. Would gentle repose extend the duration for which breath of life would have an effect?

GM: Your post about Torch's thoughts made me chuckle out loud. Thanks for adding these bits of flavor. Surmising what probably happened, Mr. Madison thinks almost out loud. Torch, I pulled you out of her mental trap. If you need me to pull you out of this force sphere, I will, but I think a man of your ability should be able to handle it. Help us free the other sages. You have my word, I will tell no one else what I have seen. With that Mr. Madison pushes his life force out of the gem and into one of the dark spirits near him. If he can tell the difference, he will go for the most powerful, if not its equal odds. DC 25 will save.

GM: Mr. Madison grabs Torch by the arm and in a stern but calm voice continues. Come, this is not the time to dawdle in twisted memories. Be of determined mind and depart this place. Diplomacy +23 or 25 if Torch is a pathfinder.

DM: Moving quickly over to Torch, Mr. Madison extends a hand. Consider me to be the rescue party that never came. I’m here now, let’s make up for it. Diplomacy +23 (+2 more of he is a Pathfinder).
Turning to the specter Mr. Madison seems to grow preternaturally, his eyes almost on fire Be gone thing of foul magic, haunt our memories no more. Intimidate +20. Turning once more to look at Torch, this time sternly,

Well that fell apart fast. Mr. Madison throws up an emergency force shield over himself and Torch. Moments later he falls over dead (ish). He moves his life force into one of the Sage Jewels, using it as the focus of a Magic Jar. I have no idea what this will do in this situation. Work Normally? Shunt me into one of those miniature mindscapes? Something crazy? Obviously there is a lot going on here magically, so this is me as a player giving my go ahead to do something interesting. Or if you feel more comfortable keeping it simple, I’m fine with it working as it would on any given day.

Mr Madison looks to provide some technical help during the preparation phase. knowledge arcana: 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 3 = 13 but it is clear that he is woefully under equipped for that task.

Listening to Barnaby’s explaination, Mr. Madison face seems to go a bit sad. Instead of using something as precious as this, shouldn’t a heal spell do the trick? Should we ask Torch for a scroll or two?
Male Kitsune (always in human form) Sorc 11 (Fey bloodline) , HP 79/79, Init +19 (+23), F 10, R 7, W 11 (+1 against poisons or diesease)
Because the negative levels are memory based, what are your thoughts on a “psychic surgery” spell? “Psychic surgery removes all effects magically altering the target’s memory, even instantaneous effects, and it can restore a memory to perfect clarity like the second use of modify memory.” Scrolls would only cost 1800 each, so could be a slightly cheaper fix.

It can only take care of one permanent negative leve per person per week. But one casting takes care of all the temporary ones. Are these permanant negative levels?

Mr. Madison smiles for a moment, Marouf, perhaps you are not as totally trapped here as you think. How interested in experiencing the outside world would you be? Do you know where your soul resides? Or are you only a memory with no soul anymore?
