Round 1, Initiative 12

Crouching down amongst his new allies, Kane opens his haversack and draws a potion out. The liquid is clear with small clouds drifting in and around the small vial.

I don't want to be caught on the ground with these great beasts charging through..., he thinks has he removes the stopper and drinks the potion.

He feels lighter for a moment as the potion's power moves through him.

Spellcraft 18:
Potion of Fly

Spellcraft rolls:

Dragon chanting 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Dragon chanting 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Elric's spell: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Just checking in. Good luck to all.

Preparations:

Round 1: Drink potion of Mage Armor
Round 2: Drink potion of Shield of Faith
Round 3: Cast Barkskin

Kane catches a glimpse of the dragons and hears the crowd roars. Baring his teeth at his newfound comrades he says, "Ready to die brothers! HAHAHAHAHA!!!"

Here! Sorry for the delay. I just noticed the new posts.

I'll post preparation in a bit.

Here is initiative for now.

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

@Eben: Gotcha. Thanks for taking a look.

@Sir George: I think I forgot to fix the copy/paste I did from my other PC. Let me take another look. I know for sure that the Mage Armor and Endure Elements were from another character.

Sir George wrote:

Alright. Note to self: Stay within forty feet of Peter, to gain the benefit of Prayer. Definitely stay within 180 feet of Peter, to retain the effects of Life Link.

Sir George idly wonders about the 3D specifications of the arena. For a mounted charger, it could be very easy for me to leave that radius.

Will I be the only one meleeing the things? Ah, the Druid. Time to take a look at him.

Yeah. I'll be wild shaping into something nasty.

I know that I'll be drinking a fly potion in the buffing rounds, so then I can turn into a flying stegosaurus. :)

So how exactly are you planning on playing Kane? What are you thinking for buffs and is there anything we can do to support you in combat? I see you have a lot of spells that target enemies on the ground, I'm not sure you will get much use out of them against dragons...

Perhaps the dragon has land-locked minions. :)

I am going to play him as a melee based character.

I'm working on a druid to throw into the lottery. I should be finished in the next day or so. I have some of it updated in this profile (Kane Stonepaw).

No problem. I just need to update my profile a bit, but I think I'm ready to go whenever you are.

That AC is pretty impresive. How'd you get to a +14 armor bonus?

+5 Mithril Full Plate

I used a feat for Heavy Armor Proficiency.

I'm still updating my profile. I added a link to a google docs spreadsheet, so you can see my gear math.

I'm not quite done with the gear. I've never rolled up a character this high. Any suggestions regarding gear choices?

I'll get you some feedback after work today. My first impressions is that +5 armor is too big a chunk of your allotted gold.

The armor is 35,500 gp and I don't use a shield. That's about 15% of my total. Why do you think that is too big?

The cost breaks down to 1500 (armor) + 9000 (mithril) + 25000 (enchantment). I think my cost is accurate. Let me know if I missed something.

Here!

Bryan thrashes about in a vain attempt to escape the fearsome creatures claws.

"Perhaps in the next life..." he croaks as he passes on....

MoFiddy. I'm pretty sure the Concentration DC is based off of Ryllandaras' grapple CMB specifically, in this case that makes the DC 32. Sorry mate!

Ahhh...right. Oh well :(

Dragonborn3 wrote:

I apologize, I think the sheer number of people threw my off.. I think I'll stick to easier characters for the PvP.

As for the dragon(s) mentioned, I really do not think I'm up to taking on 10 people. A tournament was proposed as well, so how about the winners face the dragon(s)?

10 players does seem like a lot. It is challenging to keep track of what is going on each round. Waiting several days between turns is kind of a drag too. For PvP, 3 on each side seems like a good number. Anything more than that appears to be cumbersome.

Round 5, Initiative 18

Rallick...I'm okay with that. One more chance :)

Feeling the strength drain from his body, Bryan struggles against the beast's crushing embrace. He weakly speaks an incantation and casts a spell.

Concentration check: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (9) + 20 = 29
I believe the DC is 28. If I am correct, then Ryllandaras must make a DC 18 Will save.

Edit: If he fails, then he falls prone while laughing hysterically. He can take no actions. He gets one more save next round. If he fails that one, then he keeps laughing for 6 more rounds.

Spellcraft 17:
Hideous Laughter

Buffs:

Bull's Endurance
Owl's Wisdom
Good Hope

I'm out of images. I am down to 9 hit points after the last attacks from Ryllandaras. Did you mean that you forgot damage from the previous round? If so, then I am probably dying or dead.

Round 4, Initiative 18

Bryan struggles against the massive creature as he feels the life flowing out of his body. The monster's grip makes it very difficult though...

Concentration: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (6) + 20 = 26

I assume that a 26 fails the concentration DC. I think the DC is 28, right?

Spellcraft 17:
Hideous Laughter

Rallick Nom wrote:

@Moffidy, I am fairly certain you are able to take attacks of opportunity while staggered.

PRD wrote:

Staggered

A staggered creature may take a single move action or standard action each round (but not both, nor can he take full-round actions). A staggered creature can still take swift and immediate actions. A creature with nonlethal damage exactly equal to its current hit points gains the staggered condition.

There is nothing saying you can't take attacks of opportunity. You are able to make any other type of action while staggered. The only reason you can't normally make attacks of opportunity during a surprise round is because you are flat-footed.

At least that is how I have always seen it.

Hmmm...ok. I guess I picked the wrong spell to cast.

Rallick Nom wrote:
I didn't notice but did you lose an image from Ryllandaras' attack on his turn? Did I even get to make it?

Ryllandaras' attack did hit one of the images, so now there are 2 extra images of Bryan.

Edit (revised): Can a staggered creature take AOO? Ryllandaras already used a move and std action on his turn. Not sure if how that affects this.
Also, my statement about the images above is about the non-AOO attack on your turn.

Round 3, Initiative 18

Bryan raises the rod in his hand as he stares at the creature in front of him. He begins chanting an incantation and finishes with a flourish.

Casting Defensively (DC 21): 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (3) + 20 = 23

@Ryllandaras: You must make two consecutive DC 19 Will saves or be Staggered.

Spellcraft 18:
Slow

Move to O3.

Buffs:

Bull's Endurance
Owl's Wisdom
Good Hope
Mirror Image (2 images)

Edit:
Spellcraft (Rallick): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Spellcraft (Latrine): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Spellcraft (Kaze): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

So did Ryllandaras's claw attack miss me? He hit my AC with the 17 and rolled 8 on a d100 for his miss roll.

Wraithstrike:
Can I target a spell behind Ryllandaras? For example, could I target Stinking Cloud at HI,23?

Dragonborn3 wrote:

Okay, I can't roll to get out of the tentacles because I failed my save against the cloud, right?

I've got a pdf of augmented summons, and there is no way for my Archons to get free of the tentacles. They only have a CMB of +0..

They might do better against the cloud though.
Round 1 Fort save for 1:1d20+6
Round 1 Fort save for 2:1d20+6
Round 1 Fort save for 3:1d20+6

None of them made it. :(

What about Lobo? Is he nauseated too?

Round 2

Breathing a sigh of relief that he is away from the nasty tentacles, Bryan surveys the battlefield. The mist forms into his regular form as he dismisses the spell.

Dismiss Gaseous Form.
Move to M2. Has Kaze or anyone else used the buff from K2 (Displacement for 3 rounds)? If not, then I have it.

Buffs:

Mirror Image (3 images)
Owl's Wisdom
Bear's Endurance
Haste
Good Hope

Ahhh...sorry about that. Let me redo my round.

Forgot to include spell effects in above post.

@Ryllandaras, Lethe, and Daveth
If you fail your save, then you are Slowed

Spell effect: Creatures affected by this spell are staggered and can take only a single move action or standard action each turn, but not both (nor may it take full-round actions). Additionally, it takes a -1 penalty on attack rolls, AC, and Reflex saves. A slowed creature moves at half its normal speed (round down to the next 5-foot increment), which affects the creature's jumping distance as normal for decreased speed.

Round 2

Breathing a sigh of relief that he is away from the nasty tentacles, Bryan surveys the battlefield. The mist forms into his regular form as he dismisses the previous spell. Seeing his enemies surround him he strides forward, raises his rod and casts a spell.

Ryllandaras, Lethe, and Daveth must make 2 Will saves (DC 19). Failing either one means the spell takes affect. Spell cast with Persistant metamagic rod.

Spellcraft 18:
Slow

Move to I8 and then cast.

Buffs:

Mirror Image (3 images)
Owl's Wisdom
Bear's Endurance
Haste

Round 1, Initiative 18 (+3)

"My god that stinks!", Bryan exclaims as he struggles against the tentacles holding him down. He pulls an arm free and quickly casts a spell.

Spellcraft 18:
Gaseous Form[

Concentration check: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (20) + 20 = 40
Nice!

He floats up and away out of the tentacles grasp...

Move to D8 (edit: added 10' speed from Haste)

Currently insubstantial.

Buffs:

Haste
Owl's Wisdom
Bear's Endurance
Good Hope

Question regarding Gaseous Form.

Can I be grappled after casting this spell? I think not, but I've never used it before.

Also, would I be subject to Stinking Cloud while in gaseous form?

Edit:
@Quandary: Sorry, I missed your in-character question :(

NPC d'Eben wrote:

Yah, as was pointed out earlier, teh problem with this is that there is no limit to how many grapple attempts can be made by the spell per round. So why wouldn't the spell (if we're talking about it being capable of observing AND attacking every mirror image) just make one grapple attempt versus every mirror image. Which, in this case, would pop all Kaze's Mirror images and leave Kaze grappled to boot.

That seems like a pretty powerful spell, and I'm struggling to find another interpretation using your "it's both" answer.

What do you mean by "no limit"? It can only make one grapple check per creature in the area per round.

Do you mean that it can attempt multiple grapple checks if there are multiple creatures in the area? It can, but it is still has to attack against each creature's individual CMD.

I'm curious as to what wraithstrike's ruling will be.

It is an area of effect, but it still requires an attack roll. Spells with an area of effect like Fireball would ignore Mirror Image, but not ones that require an attack roll.

Bryan has Mirror Image up. Since the grapple check from Black Tentacles is an attack wouldn't the miss chance come into play?

Spellcraft for Rallick's spell: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Spellcraft for Latrine's spell: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Fort save for Latrine's spell: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17
Fort save for Latrine's spell (reroll from Improved Great Fortitude): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32

I don't remember wraithstrike saying that we couldn't start with summoned creatures. Not a whole lot different that a summoner summoning his eidolon before the match.

Description Post

Bryan has pale white skin, brown hair, and brown eyes. He is wearing black pants and a dark blue shirt. A cloak drapes around his shoulder with a brooch clasped at the neck. The brooch is gold in the shape of the sun. He is carrying a rod. It is about 3 feet long. It is made of ashen-colored wood and topped with a silver coil.

Alignment:
Neutral

Wraithstrike, Kaze:
Ahhh...forgot about that from the emails. I'll just go back to my original setup (See Invisibility scroll instead of Heroism), if that is ok.

I'll cast Mirror Image on myself instead.
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 images
