With wizards, there really are three kinds - the blaster, the save-or-lose specialist, or the Treatmonk God Wizard. The God Wizard is probably the most "optimized" but the others can be fun, too, if you build right. I'm personally a fan of the save-or-lose build but there are some things you can do to make the blaster effective.

Sorry, what is a save-or-lose build?

It's different. So if it does what you want better then it's better.

You're giving up your school abilities (which includes the extra spell per day) and familiar to get some exploits. The strongest being able to add a +2 to our CL or DCs. So less spells per day for the option to make some spells better.

Perfect. That's exactly what I was trying to figure out. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for all of the replies. Is there a reason I would play an exploiter wizard over a typical spell school wizard with Conjuration as Treatmonk suggests?

I guess what I'm really trying to figure out is if the exploiter wizard with an arcane reservoir is a better option that then typical spell-school focused wizard.

My group is just starting PFS. We are 2 adventures down so far. I see that Season 7 is the "Year of the Serpent". Would I be incorrect in assuming that each season has overarching themes that tie all of the adventures together?

Also, is information released for the players in order to "get the big picture" or do you just play the adventures and the big picture just starts to take shape at some point? Since you don't necessarily play the modules in order, I'm wondering if you get like a season 7 player's guide or something that sort of clues the player in on what is going on, etc.

Thanks in advance.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

So I've settled on a wizard as my PFS character. Flipping through the Guide to the guides, I don't see much on the exploiter wizard. Is Treatmonk's guide still the defacto wizard guide? Also, is there a standard exploiter build?

Well, do you mean the most different spells, or the highest number of times casting the same couple of spells?

Because those are different classes.

Also, do you want to be doing more offensive casting, or more healing and buffing people?

1. So are you basically saying there are 2 options: access a wide variety of spells, but cast them less or access a small list of spells, but be able to cast them more?

If so, I would say be able to cast more.

2. As far as casting types, I seem to prefer support roles with the ability to be offensive if I need to.

Greetings all,

I'm relatively new to PF/PFS and am working on building a character for a local PFS game group in my area. What class gets the ability to cast the most spells per day? Also, I'm not specifically trying to min/max per se; however, I do want to maximize my class in order to be able to cast the maximum amount of spells per day.

Could you point me to a class and what feets, traits, skills, etc. that will effectively allow me to cast as many spells I can per day?

Thanks for any insight any of you may have.

For new players though, role playing can be very intimidating. I tried my first VTT game the other day and as soon as the gm finished the introduction text, everyone started role playing their character and I froze up and all I could muster is a "uh...I got nothing.."

It seemed like everyone knew when to start talking on que. Has anyone written anything on what to expect in your first game as far as roll playing goes?

Why does everyone insist on my character giving a bloody speech every time he does something important? He's a barbarian, actions are more important than words. Why shouldn't I be able to do nothing but smash baddies, grab treasure, and bask in my rightfully-deserved adulation and wenches? It's perfectly "in-character", and video games work just fine with that model, after all. I'm a heroic fighter, not a wussy talker.

I just feel that people shouldn't be able to try to ruin my fun by making me think about anything other than how to optimize AM BARBARIAN and which spells to sunder first.

I just read this at work and it made me bust out laughing.

I would join as well.

I've been playing pathfinder in a local group where I live, but would like to get into the PFS organized play, but it seems you have to really be quick to the draw to jump in the ones listed on the events page.

Anyone interested in starting/joining a pathfinder group in Billings? Have a few others who are interested as well. Let me know.
