Hi there,

Could you please cancel my adventure path subscription? Not in the least bit unhappy with anything, I just have more material than I could ever hope to run now!

Thanks very much!
Mishi

Hi there,

Could you please cancel my Pathfinder Modules subscription?

Thanks very much!
Mishi

Hi there,

Can you please cancel my modules subscription? I now have more modules than I can ever run, and I need to cut down slightly on costs after a house move, unfortunately.

I would like to keep going with my adventure path subscription though.

Thanks,
Mishi

Her spear going wide of the mark first time around, Arla then tries again, stabbing desperately at the large slimy toad-creature.

The toad obviously tastes unpleasant, as Ash is unable to maintain his bite-hold on the creature, releasing after a few moments.

Arla's attack: 1d20+2 = 19, Damage: 1d8+1 = 8
Ash's attack: 1d20+3 = 9, Damage: 1d6+3 = 5

I'd definitely be up for more. :) Hope GenCon goes well!

Awesome. :). I'll get a post up first thing tomorrow morning - unfortunately it's getting late here now and I need some sleep, otherwise I'd post tonight.

Thanks very much guys - this is all a huge help! :)

Can't say that I'm all that sorry about it.

Incidentally, that link should really have a NSFW warning - not for the article, but for the sidebars.

Yeah, I definitely want to expand a lot on the NPCs this time, particularly in Riddleport. I felt that was one of the things I didn't do so well last time, and I'd really like my players to get a feel for the city. I'll probably try to add a lot of extra stuff in while the PCs are employed for Saul.

Incidentally, did anyone have PCs that turned Saul's offer of work down?

Hi all,

After a discussion last weekend, I've been talked into possibly running Second Darkness in a month or two. While I'm reading up on the AP, I was wondering if anyone who has already run the path has any general advice for it.

I did run about half of Rise of the Runelords a while back, and found that there were a few issues that came up in it that weren't immediately obvious to me beforehand (being a relatively inexperienced DM). I'm hoping to at least partly avoid this this time.

Is there anything I should be watching out for in Second Darkness?

ohh yes it is, send me email to ** spoiler omitted ** to send your preview version, and send an email to Lilith so she can send you a physical copy :) (her email is on her profile)

Done :)

Wrath, you might also wanna try the Eisenhorn Omnibus.

A friend actually bought me 'Founding' for Christmas - I'm about 2/3s of the way through it just now. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing. I usually don't expect tie-in books to be up to much, but Abnett's a good writer.

You just made my morning splendidly good. I'm overjoyed and excited. This is the first time anything I've done has gotten published anywhere. Thank you so much!

I am with her, I know the hardest job on this had been made by Hugo and Liz, but I must say that is an honor to be part of this.

I agree it woould be cool if this could be repeated before the year passes... but I understand that the only place where for the time being it could be presented physically would be Paizocon, and the cost of printing it would be impossitive as fan product, it would be hard...

having it as a PDF would be cheaper... still a lot of work over Hugo and Liz shoulders.

Anyway it is a great work the one that was done by everyone involved :D

Bleh.. I clearly can't spell first thing in the morning. Should have been acolyte above. Also, despite what I said about DH parties being easy to set up, the idea of the party all being from the same world originally (Imperial draft? :D) is rather cool.

To be fair, Dark Heresy is easier than most to figure out the initial party meeting and why you should stick together - your Inquisitor picked you all to be his acoloytes (for one reason or another) and you don't say no to the Inquisition :D

I think Wilhelm has an assassin, no?

Hm.. think my vote would be for either Astrid Skane or Al-Subaai. Happy to go with the majority though, of course! :)

If there's still room for players, I'd also be interested in joining.

I have played through a number of the published adventures before (although I can't remember what the names of them were unfortunately), but if that wouldn't be a problem, then I'd like to sign up.

There are a few new rumours for 40k that have come from the Gamesday in Spain. Apparently, Blood Angels and Black Templar codices are in the works right now, Tyranids and Necrons are also currently in the works. Dark Eldar are still at least a year away - probably more as Jes Goodwin hasn't finished the models yet.

(From Bell of Lost Souls)

Hope the DE players get some awesome model updates when the codex finally comes out - you guys have been waiting an age.

I'm a bit biased, but I'm hoping the tyranid codex will be fairly soon. The plastic trygon rumours look rather cool, and I'm hoping that tyranid CC will be given a tweak to make it more effective (to me, tyranids should be all about claws and teeth in close combat, but it seems they aren't just now.. :( )

Sad to hear that Shisumo can't continue :(. I wish him the best of luck in his new job though and congrats on his module!

Thanks for offering to take up the mantle, Utsuro! I'd be more than happy to continue if you're up for it :)

Sorry for my lack of posting over the last few days - had a really busy weekend :(. I'll try to catch up with everything tomorrow.

good Mishi, thanks :)

hope you like Lylla's version :)

I do - it looks awesome :) Quick progress update - sketch with details is done and I'm partway through the shading now. Will hopefully have something by the weekend for you.

Hehe :D. I get the feeling that things are going to get very interesting very quickly.

Can't tell you what biomorphs to pick. Never played a Nids army. Playing against them I can tell you hormagaunts are a solid buy. Regular gaunts are a waste except as a unit screen.

Interestingly, the current trend on 40k forums seems to be to avoid hormagaunts as they're apparently not as valuable for points. I think I'm inclined to at least try using hormie broods though, as I like the way they look. As far as regular gaunts go, I was thinking of making them super-cheap spinegaunts and as you say, using them to shield other units so that they can make it across the board.

I'm struggling to decide what to do with my carnifex and my (new present! :D) hive tyrant. I may try to magnetise the 'fex as per this guide if I'm feeling brave once I reach him in the modelling queue. It's a rather cool idea. :D

Apologies for being late - ended up being away all weekend due to family commitments. The action that Chloe posted was exactly what I'd have done in any case - thanks for posting for me. :)

As far as I know, the stats in the chaos daemons book can't be used with the chaos space marines army - they get a generic statline for summoned daemons, and that's it. That's one of the things that put me off doing a 40k chaos army. I may be wrong though - I'm not an expert on the 40k rules unfortunately. :(

After finishing A Feast of Crows, I have been looking for some gritty fantasy...

Can any one recommend anything?

Try Joe Abercrombie's 'The First Law' trilogy. The first book is called 'The Blade Itself'.

There is some humour in it - moreso than A Song of Ice and Fire - but a lot of it is very dark, and fits well. Lots of violence and intrigue, and some very well written characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it. :)

Great work everybody! :)

Really sorry for my inactivity here lately :( I have a request to do for Montalve (I haven't forgotten, honest) that I'll try to get done this weekend. I have a long weekend off work, so I should hopefully have a bit of free time.

Checking in with Layali. Still got a bit of work to do, but the basics are mostly done I think.
For future reference, I'm making a slight change to the mechanics of the sayf-saghir, so that the numbers match the fluff - with the appropriate emphasis, you can fight with two of them in your hands, rather than with a knife in the off-hand. Actually attacking with the off-hand weapon still incurs a +5 TN penalty, though, unless you also have Ambidexterity.

Ah, I didn't realise it was a two weapon fighting style. I tried googling the speciality, and found that a sayf (saif) is basically a scimitar, but that's all I found on it. :)

Hm.. the keeper looks interesting too. I think I may well go for that class instead :)

I saw this film yesterday, and I have to say, I really liked it. In my opinion, the major change that was made still worked very well, and I can understand why it was made. I particularly liked how Dr Manhattan and Rorshach turned out - they were very much like how I had imagined them while reading the GN. :)

With regards to Dr. Manhattan's nudity, I would have been disappointed had they censored him. I think it's an important part of showing his detachment from humanity - he just doesn't see the point in clothing as we do. Additionally, there seems to be a general acceptance for a lot of violence in films, but as soon as there's any nudity (particularly male nudity), there's an outcry. It just seems odd to me.

However, saying that, I do agree on thinking that the US rating for the film seems a little odd, given its general content. Here in the UK, it's rated for over-18s only, which I think is the right choice.

Just my two cents, and another vote for the film being awesome. :)

Think I'm going to go for Assassin Slayer of the Caliphate Guard subfaction (the LBS page has details for the slayer class, so I should be able to use that). I'll need to make some minor tweaks to the original concept I had, but I think it will work. I also think I'm probably going to go for the 'Faction Agent' trait - I think it fits best.

I'll start working on my character sheet sometime today - just have a couple of questions. Are the skills mostly the same as those in the L5R book? If not, are there any important skills I should be aware of?

Additionally, do the factions get an ability bonus as well as the class-specific bonus as in L5R? If so, what is the Assassin faction's one?

Thanks! :D

The Assassins are actually going through a power struggle of sorts as well, as they try to figure out what their role is in the wake of the death of the Immortal Caliph. One faction is actually aligned with the new Caliph, since one of the Assassins actually took power in the city after the Immortal Caliph's death and her son is the Caliph now (they act in some ways as his secret police); another is basically the Tiger Faction of the Qolat now, and as such is dividing its attention between the Qolat power struggle and the one inside the Assassins (it is, in violation of the Assassin traditions, entirely male); the third is the traditionalist "True Daughters and Sons of the Mountain," actually the smallest group as it is no longer clear exactly what the Assassins' purpose is - they oppose the Caliph's policies, but unlike the Immortal Caliph, the current regime is neither terribly repressive nor irredeemably evil, and thus the moral certainty the order once had has been lost.

Does that help?

It does, thanks. I'm thinking probably either the first or the third faction, but I'll need to think on which would be a better fit for what I have in mind :) I'll get back to you on this.

Yukari is ready to go now. :)

Hey, just wanted to show you guys the awesome picture Butterfrog did of Yukari. Wanted to order a commission from him after seeing the great work he does on the 'We'll draw your Pathfinder Requests' thread and decided to ask for Yukari.

Yukari

I think he did a really awesome job! :D

DM Shisumo wrote:

For those without books...

Assassins: basically exactly what it says. A secret order of hired killers. They originally came into existence to oppose the Immortal Caliph, but since she's dead (she was a khadi, a sorcerer who removed her heart so that she could not die), they pretty much just do their thing. One of the Assassins became the new Caliph though, so there's a group that actuallydoes their thing in the service of the state.

Whoops, missed the 'since she's dead' part when I asked about the driving reasons behind the assassins. This changes my question to whether there are now any 'codes' that the assassins follow now, or if it's pretty much 'anything goes'?

Hoping to go see it this weekend sometime. I was a little skeptical at first - wasn't sure how well it would be pulled off - but the reviews coming in for it now have me eagerly looking forward to seeing the film. :D

I think I'm leaning towards an assassin. I'm guessing that in LBS, the assassins are motivated by similar reasons as their real-life counterparts - i.e. mostly politics, and what they perceive to be greed and corruption?

At the moment, I'm thinking of attempting a Scorpion-esque character - charming and smooth talking on the outside, but much colder and calculating on the inside - particularly when dealing with a target. For motivation, she would have a blind (and most likely flawed) belief in the idea that she is a necessary weapon that is used to make the world a better place - similar to the Operative's belief in Serenity.

Would this be fitting, or should I have a rethink? Also, could you give a little more information on the assassin factions you mentioned in the first post? I couldn't find any information on them online.

Hm.. trying to decide on how best to spend the XP.

I know I definitely want to put 1 point into Etiquette and 1 point into Athletics (Given her athletics performance in the module, I think she should be taking at least one point in this :-p) My current thought is to put one point each into two of Courtier, Hunting or Go - I'm just not sure which two to go for yet.

I know this means Yukari's insight rank won't change, but I feel she should have a slightly better skill spread than she currently does.

I'd also like to join, although as I said on the discussion thread, I don't have a copy of the LBS book at the moment, and it's likely to be a couple of weeks before I can buy any new books :(. If this wouldn't be an issue, I'd love to play. Was looking at the various factions on the LBS site/L5R wiki, and the Yotodai, Senpet and Assassins all look rather interesting :)

I'll have a post up on the main thread in a little while. As far as character changing goes, there are a few things that I was thinking should perhaps be tweaked, mostly to make the character sheet match up with how she turned out as a character.

Spoiler:
Ah, cool. Yukari was indeed one move away from drawing on Chigitsu. :) That's fine - I was trying to interpret the Brash disadvantage as being sensitive to attacks on her honour more than hot-tempered. I just wasn't sure if that was ok or not. In that case, I'll leave things as they are, keep Irreproachable and use the xp to buy the skills :) Thanks!

Of course :D. I only own the L5R 3eR book at the moment in any case, but I think I'd certainly like to at least lurk around this game if there are no spaces left. :) I'd love to see how the AP turns out with the setting and system.

I was planning on looking for the Eisenhorn books once I'd finished with the Gaunt's Ghosts books. :) I'll add Malus Darkblade to the list to check out as well.

I got given The Founding by Dan Abnett for Christmas, which I'm currently reading. I'm generally skeptical of any books that use the setting of game or TV series, but I've really been pleasantly surprised by the quality of it.

Thoroughly enjoying it so far. :)
