I'd like to submit Ghorum Kraak, dwarf ranger (skirmisher). I will start the stat workup finite, following the guidelines above.

Interested...being just shy of 45, 2 kids and little time to play a face-to-face game, I'm very much up for a PbP.

Here is Ghorum Kraak, dwarf ranger. Specialist in dwarven axe and shield. Idea is to have female wolf animal companion, going with the skirmisher archetype (ie. - no spells).

I can have some stats up over the next few days.

hey guys, sorry for not posting once things started back up.

I think I'm gonna bow out for a while, as my time will be limited for a bi. This is job related, so its going to be eating into my time quite a bit. So I'd rather let another have a chance to play. I think Jim and I had a neat concept, but I don't want to be the one to hold things up.

I'm OK with Ghorum being NPC'd, just let me know and I'll repost his statblock (I noticed it got deleted somehow while I was away?! - no idea if I did that or what...)

If things clear up for me sooner than expected, I'll post here.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Best Wishes for you and da Missus! We'll be fine here, so focus on the important stuff now.

Besides, it gives me a chance for more prep work for my face-to-face game of Rise of the Runelords.

Sorry for the delay in updating Ghorum. Should be soon (2 overnight shifts on the ER)

[b]"Har!! Good one, girl! Ain't heard that one in ages!"

"Have a seat, lass. And thank ye for the drink...next ones on the boy here" he says, winking at Jim.

"My names Ghorum...of the Kraak Clan. Dis here lad is Jim...I look after him...you know, keep 'im outta trouble and such...right, lad?" he laughs, nudging Jim with his elbow.

He most def'nitly NOT!! Hells, the boy barely has any facial hair! ;-)

I'll update by the end of today.

Woohoo!!!

The custom race thing does sound like the most fair option, for all of us really.

Jim Seeker wrote:
"Looks to me like that creature is a devilspawn. We'd do well to watch our backs in here, Ghorum. But even more for that girl he's talking to." Jim leans in, looking very concerned. "I've seen her type before, Ghorum. And rumor has it, her kind..." he pauses for effect, "can play such a tune as would even make you dance, and nobody needs to see that! Jim erupts in laughter, spilling some ale on the bar and slapping his knee.

"Bah! exclaims Ghorum at Jim's jest. He pauses for a moment or two with a sour look on his face, them bursts out laughing himself.

"That would be a sight, woundn't it?!" he says, catching his breath.

Ghorum finishes his ale, eyeing the curious group gathering at a nearby table.

He nudges Jim, and whispers "Oy...watcha thinks goin' on over there, huh?"

Ghorum finishes his ales, eyeing the rather eclectic group gathering at a nearby table.

Nudging Jim, he whispers to him, nodding his head towards the other table. [b]"What do ya thinks goin' on over there?"

Ghorum is very much relieved to have less to carry around.

"Aye! But what're you drinkin', lad?" Ghorum says, winking at Jim. His boisterous laughter carries across the inn.

I went ahead and added Craft (weapons) to Ghorum's stats.

"I'm comin', boy! Just keep yer shirt on!", Ghorum says back at Jim. The older dwarf then shakes his head, muttering under his breath. He re-hefts the heavy pack, letting the straps settle into his shoulders.

"Besides...yer skinny legs are longer than mine!"

@Jim - lets cook up a story as to how we got to Triumverate. Could be we are on our way to cash in some reclaimed loot.

I'll post there as Ghorum to add him to the list.

Herkymr, I noticed under the "characters" tab you have Torillan (my default alias) listed instead of Ghorum. Any way you can change that? Then I can access the character sheet easier.

I'm pretty much ready to go when you are. I have a few well-earned days off to work on some projects around the house, and will welcome any excuse to check for new posts. ;-)

Herkymr the Silly wrote:

so let me see if this is correct so far

Miya bard
Ghorum ranger
Dkal - fighter
Big# - druid
Faaki - cleric
tess - alchemist
Kirsteen - ranger --anyone heard from her??

Looks right. And no, Kirsteen hasn't posted for some time.

A healer for this group will be quite useful. Other than that I'm of the mind to let folks play what they want, letting the chips fall where they may.

love it

Seconded! Very nicely done. This is going to be fun...

Alright, I think Ghorum is done. His background is still a little rough, but ties in with Jim. I will think on some more details, and add them when I can.

Thanks again for the opportunity.

Nice. I'll have to update with Jim's side of the story...

I can adjust it where I need to if you have another idea. Just sayin'!

I'm looking forward to seeing how this comedy team will play out... :-)

Faagaki looks pretty good, and the backstory seems to fit well with the campaign theme. He'll be a good support character, with ranged attacks and spells to heal and buff as time goes on.

I also like the idea of one of the party acting as the "voice of reason"...may help keep Ghorum's violent impulses under control. :-)

Miya Setsuko Fuyaki wrote:
GM I have had a good think about this and I think im going to change my PCS class to bard. It has a better fit and gives the group a second healer.

That works great since a trait I took for Ghorum gives him a damage bonus while under a morale bonus!

He'll most likely be humming along with Miya as he slices and dices...

Still here! Ghorum should be finished later today.

I too am excited! Looks like a good group.

Miya - it looks like your stats were purchased as a 25 point buy...it should be 20 points

D-Kal wrote:

@Ghorum- How is your character creation coming?

@Herkymr- Since it's not listed, do we not select any of our own traits?

Its coming. I'm working 3 overnight shifts in a row, and so I don't get much computer time since I'm trying to catch up on sleep. I have one more shift tonite, so I'll be working on him tomorrow.

D-Kal wrote:

I've picked out a few spots that might make sense for Jim's settlement. One of them is close to the Mithril Mountains, so maybe that's how Jim and Ghorum could meet? Ghorum on patrol, Jim searching too deep in the forest, hilarity (/violence) ensues...

Here are the spots. Let me know what you think.

Second
Third

I like! I'm thinking of going with the skirmisher ranger archetype, rather than guide. More warrior-like...I don't see Ghorum as a spell caster. Some of the skirmisher's hunters tricks could prove rather useful. Especially once he gets an amimal companion (a nice wolf...)

Meeting Jim and becoming friends sounds good. They can constantly argue about "who-rescued-who" reminiscing about certain encounters!

Jim Seeker wrote:

Ghorum, I hope you don't mind but I pretty much stole your formatting to make my character easier to read alongside yours. And because it was very thorough. Etc.

No worries! I took it a while back from another PbP (fizzled out), but liked the format so much I copy-pasted it to a word document on my desktop for future use. It organizes things very nicely!

I should have a more detailed background up in a few days. Since dwarves seem a bit isolationist, I'll have to come up with a reason that Ghorum left the confines of the Mithril Mtns. Maybe just some wanderlust...

Well, I can open it. Here is what is listed:

World Facts:

•Society creates good or evil not race. Some races tend towards more evil societies but no race IS evil in and of itself. This refers to all races not classified as devil (or the like) or angel( or the like0
•Civilization and settlements are few and far apart.
•World was devastated by mage wars several centuries ago and is now just recovering. Magic is not so common and those who use it are treated with caution or mistrust.
•There is only one God but different races worship and interpret this God in different ways.
•Firearms are common place but their are no advanced firearms.
•This is a living world...meaning you may stomp somethings and others may stomp you. It is up to you to decide your best options.I will not intentionally kill a character or intentionally save one.

And for that matter, I am interested...

Here is Ghorum Kraak, a dwarf ranger (guide). He is a bit older, approaching middle age, drifting from region to region. He will typically hire himself out as a guide once he gets to know a region well enough. A skilled fighter, his prized possession is his clans Waraxe, aptly named Barathaz Burk, which translates to "Bloody Axe".

Having seen plenty of bloodshed in his years, he has become somewhat jaded to violence, even to the point that he does not fear his own death. Not suicidal by any means, he may still charge in to battle, though it depends on if he had enough sleep the night before.

Lets try some rolls:

4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 6) = 13=12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6, 4) = 17=14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6, 2) = 18=16
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 3) = 12=10
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 2) = 18=16
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 5) = 19=17

Sweet!

Whom are you learning with? another ranger or the guard or whom?

I'm guessing one of the other rangers in town, maybe even the sheriff. Having no interest in his fathers smithy, Ghorum latches on to someone else.

"GM Krumthi wrote:
Heirloom weapon works too you know Ghorum

True, but the recent errata kinda nerfed the whole masterwork quality. That is pretty much what I'm going for here. Think an "upgradable" weapon...

I'll submit Ghorum Kraak, dwarf ranger.

Basically, as one of only a few dwarves, he is a bit of a loner, hence his penchant for wandering the surrounding areas. He learns valuable survival skills in the wilds, even growing to serve as a guide for the few travellers that enter the region.

I do intend for him to inherit his fathers waraxe (most likely by taking the Rich parents trait).

Stats to follow.

Here is Ghorum, a dwarf Ranger. I'll need to tweak a few things (backstory, etc.).

I have an opportunity to sit at a computer again while I wait for the snow to stop, so I thought I should post an update.

I arrived in St. Paul yesterday and have set about the task of finding a place to live. I've got a very promising lead, and unless something unforeseen happens I should be moved in by next week. I'll arrange internet access at that point, and hope to return to the game shortly.

You haven't missed anything...in fact, I think its dead, Jim...

Its been crazy for me, too, but I'm still here!! Lets do this thing!

Ghorum listens intently during the ceremony, and murmurs agreement when the others speak of him.

Once Sheldon is finished speaking, Ghorum takes a step forward, and gently clears his throat before speaking.

"Ahem...I'm...uhh...ain't really good with words, but there is one thing I knows...the Perfessor was a good man, to me at least. Having served as a guide on a few of his rangings, I enjoyed his stories while we camped, and the man knew his history."

"I'm honored that he remembered me at all, and it warms this dwarfs heart that you all cared for him as much as you do. Um...he...well...that's it, really."

He steps back, turning somewhat red.

GM_Todd wrote:
Ghorum, we need to hear from you by end of day tomorrow (Central Standard Time). Let us know if you're still around.

I'm still here! I work evenings so posting can sometimes be late in the day. Sorry for the delay!

"I'm am so sorry for your loss, Miss. And it would indeed be a great honor to serve." Ghorum says.

He is keenly aware that he isn't really dressed well enough for a service, but is grateful that he was able to at least bathe last night.

GM_Todd wrote:

As the three newcomers arrive at the table, the old woman breaks into a wide grin. "Yes, good. Good. You saved me a trip over to the bar - my old legs don't need any more work than necessary. As I told your friends, I am being tasked by the spirits to provide each of you a card from my deck before your adventure begins. Please draw one."

She shuffles and spreads the cards in her hands, extending them towards the three who haven't yet drawn. For those who care to look, you notice that The Foreign Trader is placed in front of Sheldon and Drugrosh is holding The Brass Dwarf. You can't see what Teagan has drawn.

Ghorum looks rather perplexed as he approaches the table. "Before our adventure begins?" he thinks to himself.

Shaking his head and shrugging his shoulders, he reaches for a card.

Novennia Narikopolus wrote:
"Yes, your friend might have a point with that. Tell me, what do you think of that old woman there?"

Ghorum nods in agreement. "We probably should join them, I'd guess. As for the woman, she's most likely out to scam a few coins from the lot of us. Best be on your guard, my dear."

He gestures for her to lead the way to the other table. "Shall we?" he says with a wink.

GM_Todd wrote:
My Dwarven friends: Are you still wanting to play? It's only been a little over a day, so I'm not too stressed yet. Just want to check in and make sure.

Still here! I just posted in the IC thread, and I'm trying to finish up Ghorums sheet. Sorry for the delay!

Ghorum holds up his own mug of cider, but stays silent. 'My thoughts are my own' he thinks to himself.

Kolgrym wrote:

"It doesn't really matter how the Professor went, in all honesty. I'm sure the man welcomed his fate and I trust Pharasma is smiling upon him in the Boneyard."
Novennia wrote:

"I'm certain the Lady does exactly that, my dwarven friend, however I am not so certain as you are that he welcomed his fate. If there was foul play involved as the innkeeper suggested, I would in fact be highly surprised if that was the case."

"I truly hope so, Kolgrym. He was a good man. But I must agree with the good lady here. Perhaps we should delve more into his death more closely...after the funeral, of course" Ghorum says. (somberly, of course!)

Ghorum smiles at Kolgrym, glad that a fellow dwarf is amongst the present company.

As he listens to Novennia, he returns her bow with his own.

"The pleasure is mine, my dear lady. Ghorum Kraak, at your service. Please forgive my bluntness."

After his own mug of cider is brought to him, he takes a few sips to quench his thirst, then continues.

"For my own part, I only knew him as a bit of an eccentric sort, although a damn likeable fellow. I served him as a guide a few times on his expeditions. Not much beyond that." He takes a larger gulp of the cider.

"To be honest, I'm suprised he remembered me at all. I had only just come back from a scouting mission when the courier arrived with the summons to come here."

Almost done with sheet. The major items are there, anyway. Bear with me!

Novennia Narikopolus wrote:

She approaches the closest of the two groups, that being the dwarves near the bar, and bowed her head and upper body slightly, her hands folded together formally infront of her chest, as she had learned in the monestary.

"Greetings, Sirs, I hope I'm not interrupting, but I heard you too would be here for the late Professor's funeral?"

Ghorum turns to look at the woman. "Aye, it appears we are here for the same purpose. How did you know the Professor?" he asks poilitely.

When he sees the lights of Ravengro in the distance, Ghorum mutters a prayer of thanks. As he gets closer, he immediately picks out the building most likely to be an inn. Seeing another dwarf about to enter, he moves up quietly behind him, waiting until the other man clears the doorway.

Kolgrym wrote:
"Bring me something to warm the bones and lift the spirits. With cider, if you have it, and maybe some local cheese."

At this, Ghorum steps into the room, saying "Make that two, lass, I've had a long journey."

He waits until the other dwarf turns to look at him before introducing himself.

"Ghorum Kraak, at your service, brother." Smiling, he extends a hand.
