For those of you who have been through the adventure, what is the best trio of characters to successfully survive the adventure?

I am beginning Adventure 4 of the RoTRL adventure path. I thought I read somewhere that I need to take some cards out of play. Which cards should I remove from the game? Does this include all the different types of cards (items, weapons, monsters, etc)?
