Pleased by his effective use of those dubious skills, he notices Norine’s glance and feigns offense, ”What? Someone has to know how to get into the wine cellar after we lock the keys inside!” Laughing at his own joke, he does get a bit more serious when he adds, ”Besides, that is a carry-over from my time before becoming a man of the wine soaked cloth. I did what I needed to do to survive, and clearly those tricks are still helping to keep me that way.” as he motions to the poisoned needle.

Mez sees the men fleeing the ghouls and conflict is apparent on his face. Freedom demands these aggressors be taught a lesson, but to be feed to a ghoul is a fate I’m not sure even they deserve. Setting his jaw in grim determination, Mez speaks loudly enough for those dashing forward to hear. ”You may keep your weaponry for the time being, use it to defend yourselves from the undead. But be warned, if you stab us in the back, becoming a ghoul will be the least of your worries.” he says, leaving no doubt of his intent. ” Norine, Calanthe, and Targost, keep a watchful eye on our newest wards, and ensure they stay away from our most important one. If they cause trouble, let those at the front know so we might deal with them.”

Mez calls upon his balessing from Cayden and imbues a magical shield about himself. He then digs deep to channel the deepest desires of his god of Freedom. These intruders will pay for thinking themselves superior men. Their judgement is at hand. Mez begins to slightly glow as his flesh hardens and all sense of humor is lost. "Open the door Ebon. Let them come. The doors cannot hold for long, ruining them would be a waste. Let us see how the hunters like becoming the hunted."

Really depends on the leech. Most just sit there and wait for a tasty meal to float by and latch on. Some larger ones can get more aggressive and jump towards body heat. I picture Mez as fairly armored, so that probably means grieves, but water gets in everything, so if there are small leeches everywhere, they could have worked their way in with the water. If they are big things that could suck the life from you... That'll be your call Derek.

"Hmm," says Mez as he slowly meanders forward, all sense of humor gone from his face. "I don't recall there being an active war going on here. Mez pioneers much of their course when Norine hasn’t darted ahead to examine some odd foliage or an unusually shaped mud puddle. He fidgets with the straps on his new shield, adjusting it just right and practices swinging it from his back and into a fighting position. During breaks, he works with Ebon on some new defensive stances and ways to deflect incoming strikes and riposte better. When Norine remarks about Todric’s alternate adventures, Mez is about to comment that Todds probably exploring a certain Blakros daughter as opposed to some dusty crypt, but in a strange moment of clarity, decides not to spread rumors and risk upsetting the delicate Calanthe. After all, he thinks he remembers something about the two of them growing closer during that Andoran mission he wasn’t around for, or maybe it was something about her bird, ahh well, drunken memories aren’t always the clearest. Do we think we’ll be getting there shortly?” he asks the quieter members of the team, hoping to bring them into the conversation.

I'm actually toying around with a Paladin (Sacred Shield)/Monk (Sacred Mountain) worshiper of Irori

While the damage isn't super great (d8+4), by level 4 his AC'll be mid 20's and he'll have +10ish to all his saves with mid 40's HP

Why can't I stop making tanks in a game with no tanking mechanisms!

A 2 level dip into Monk of the Sacred Mountain gets you IUAS, IG, Toughness, and +1 Nat armor, freeing up the neck slot for a CoR +1. One of my favored dips for Paladins of Irori, because monk saves + paladin Divine Grace is silly good.
