Background:

Family: Merrick was born to his elven father, Doranel Greenheart, and human mother, Vanessa Greenheart. Doranel first arrived in Falcon’s Hollow nearly forty years ago under the employ of the Lumber Consortium. He was fleeing from the law after being wrongfully accused of stealing from the Diamond Regiment in Olfden. The Lumber Consortium offered protection and comfort in return for services rendered. He happily accepted and took up residence in Falcon’s Hollow, where reality was far different from the promises made as he was forced to work brutal hours in the paper mill. There he met Vanessa, a quiet fishery worker who took pity on his situation. They are not formally married, but their strong bond would fool anyone. They moved in together to raise Merrick.

Upbringing: Merrick strongly reflects the elven characteristics of his father in all except height. In his early years he was left in the care of the elders while his parents worked, but his wanderlust and desire for freedom would drive him to escape their supervision and explore the edges of the vale. As he grew older and more independent, however, his parents agreed to allow him to accompany some of the scouts and outlanders that roam the vale in preparation for new logging endeavors. He took to it naturally and quickly developed a keen bond with the woods. Upon reaching adulthood, much to his father’s dismay, he entered the employ of the Lumber Consortium himself as a fletcher and scout.

Current: As the plague swept through Falcon’s Hollow, the Greenhearts frequently debated fleeing to any of the nearby towns. Fearing that Doranel might still be wanted after all these years, they chose to stay and gamble their health. Unfortunately, Vanessa has begun to show the early signs of the plague. When word got out that a cure might be possible, Merrick offered his aid without hesitation.
