Merdle stepped back behind the others, to his usual spot in a conflict. He had no desire to kill the duergar outright, helpless as they are. But, generations of predations on his people left nothing but ill feelings towards the dark dwarves. He would not speak up for their killing, but nor would he plead for their lives. In fact, he was quite irritated that the commander was putting this all on their shoulders. Was he or was he not in charge of this mission?

"Aftermath" is not "required" per se, but I will continue until our story reaches a natural conclusion, or until interest dies down, and close the campaign after that.

Sorry folks, I had no internet yesterday. DC was 17 (as Korvoth pointed out) and I will strive to include that in every post.

Merdle hung back long enough to ensure that the duergar were soundly defeated before rushing out to see what the bodies held, and to catch up with their Steel Falcons support.

Merdle lined up on the duergar flank and cast the last of his prepared spells into their midst, tendrils of writhing energy sucking life from even the hardiest of the dwarves. Then, he contented himself with telekinetically throwing rocks into their midst.

The situation of showing mercy really wasn't an option for Merdle. The hatred of the dark dwarves ran deep in the kobold racial memory. Hatred for the slavers and for their casual contempt for others was a part of him. He did not stop hurling heavy rocks until the last of the duergar was still.

Merdle calls out "They're over here!" and scuttles forward, once again conjuring up a nasty headache for the nearest duergar.

Merdle moved up, following Roahn and hoping not make a target of himself. He concentrated, sending a cloud of phantom pain to surround the duergar's mind, wracking the dwarf with pain and misery.

@GM - I understand what you did. I was telling you that in Round 1 it was already ahead of Merdle. I don't normally put light sources over the guy at the back who can see in the darkness just fine. It was out in front where the vanguard (who don't have darkvision) could get the best use. But sure, place it where you need and let's move on.

It doesn't take much. The torch would have been a bit further in, since Merdle wasn't holding it over himself, but up ahead of the party.

Merdle floated the sunrod ahead of him and dropped it in the chamber beyond. Then, he ran in and hid behind a stalagmite of his own.

Should be able to get it to the near edge of the outer ring and provide light to all who need it.

"I'm not going to let you get too far away from me. Who knows what trouble you lot would get into without me around to guide you?"

Merdle holds the sunrod high over the others, sticking to the shadows as they move forwards.

Unless you have Battle Medicine, Treat Wounds is a 10-minute action. WE don't have that kind of time.

At Korvoths assertion that there are more bombs around, Merdle started looking this way and that. He was so frenetic in his motions that the hood of his cloak flopped over his face, obscuring all but a small aprt of the room.

Finally, he pulled his cowl away. "The only explosives I am familiar with are the kind I cast. The fiddly potions and bombs that alchemists put together are far too like stumbling in the dark and hoping not to bang your shin. I prefer to simply cast a spell to allow others to see."

"Speaking of seeing, I saw no other bombs. I know Roahn surely must be able to suss out a safe path forward for us. Surely. If you see a bomb, I might be able to move it along, as I am doing the sunrod." Merdle made a finger-wiggling gesture known the world over as 'a little bit of magic'.

Merdle allows the others to go first, then followed behind. There was much information to be garnered here, not least of which was where the loose bits of rock were. He scampered along, trying to stay int he pools of darkness and shadow caused bythe bobbing light.

"I will watch to the rear, and occasionally point things out ahead as needed. But, you seem like capable fellows. I can hold your light if you need me to, Dr. Yuen. I don't need it myself, but I understand that most humans don't fare as well in the darkness as those of us that are descended from dragons."

Merdle will take the sunrod and chant a small spell. The sunrod lifted high into the air, bobbing just below the cave tunnel's ceiling.

Casting mage hand and sustaining it to move the sunrod along with us. Poor man's Dancing lights

Merdle let the others do the initial talking, as he listened for key information. He nearly spat on the floor at the mention of the duergar. His clan had had many dealings with the dark dwarves, and none of them ended well for the kobolds.

"Duergar aren't all bad, just like not all humans are tall. But my people have a long and hate-filled history with them. While some may be willing to reform, slavers are the worst kind of evil. We would do best to simply cut them down and save ourselves the trouble."

"As for the map, let Roahn take it. He can lead, and I can provide insight as needed from time to time. Caves are where my family was forced to relocate centuries ago, and I grew up in some. I am at home there as a horse is on the prairie."

"We should, however, make sure we are outfitted appropriately. Light sources for those that cannot see int eh dark, ropes and climbing gear, rations, and medicinals in case someone become sick. Cavern air is not always healthful to all creatures."

A tall, for a kobolod, blue-scaled kobold lounged indolently at the meeting area. His dark colored cloak billowed around him almost like a robe, and he held himself with a regal air. A coin danced across his fingertips, occasionally sparking with the magic he used to keep it moving, even when his nimble fingers were stilled. Merdle watched everyone around him carefully, not like a hawk, but more like a vulture looking for the weak and dying to prey on.

DO you have room for a kobold sorcerer? He is a royal descendant (he's not) direct from the House of Barthaganaz the Blue Dragon (definitely not) and only working for the Pathfinders until he can unearth the documents that prove his lineage. The minor bit of coin he accumulates along the way is only a pittance to him, really (you get the idea).
