Appearance:
Melenae’s thick wavy dark brown hair that appears almost black is her own favourite feature. She has olive skin which gives her a warm complexion and with her delicate facial features, she possesses an elegant and refined appearance which she builds upon with her good sense of fashion. Standing at 5 foot 6 she exudes confidence in her demeanor, carrying herself with poise and self-assurance. Melenae is 29 years old, soon to turn 30. Early Life and Upbringing and how she came to be in Riverford:
Melenae grew up in the City of Thorns, Egorian, the capital city of Cheliax. From the outside, observers would say she was lucky to be bought up in one of the many off-shoots of House Thrune. She had everything she ever needed to be a successful influence within Egorian when she came of age– loyal and ambitious parents, a good education, good manners, good health, and good access to social circles that many would not. That outside view was not Melenae’s reality. Melenae was raised in the household of her mother, Diana and stepfather, Marcus; to this day she does not know anything about her true father. Her mother married into the family around 7 months before Melenae was born and everybody outside the household believes Marcus to be the true father of a prematurely born daughter. The fact that she shows no resemblance to him is politely never spoken of – at least in his hearing. She was always a disappointment to Marcus, everything she did was never quite good enough. Coming second in her class was not a success, it meant that she had failed. Missing any of the social events of the year throughout her teenage years and early adult-hood was a dereliction of duty which, Marcus informed her loudly and often, would ruin their family. Failure after failure was planted firmly at her feet, on her head. The problem was, she hated everything that her luxuries provided, everything that her family stood for because she knew it was at the expense of so many others in Cheliax - such as the down-trodden halfling slaves who had served her family for so long. This innate sense of justice led her to the most dangerous and subversive group in Cheliax – the Bellflower Network. Initially her work as a Tiller went well, but during a mission when she was just 19, Melenae has a crisis of self-belief. She’d resisted Marcus’s constant put downs for years but one day something snapped inside her, and at the worst possible time. A group of escaping slaves were relying on her for passage out of the city and she couldn’t do it. Her every plan was doomed to failure. A dozen innocent slips were going to be taken or killed and it was all her fault. At her wits end Melenae took the biggest risk of her young life and went to a school friend she trusted, looking for some advice. She couldn’t tell him what the problem was of course, but she could explain what she needed to succeed. It worked. With Calo’s help the slips escaped and Melenae’s self-belief blossomed once more. Still it wasn’t enough and eventually, suffocated by the system, she had enough and at the age of 26 she decided to escape from the place that was never home. Leveraging a few of the unusual and under-the-table connections she had managed to garner she managed to get a ticket to Andoran with at least a chance of work. Given a new life in an unremarkable town named ‘Riverford’ Melenae quickly proved herself capable and organised – soon gaining work on the political campaign of one Elias Trand. She thrived on the work, long hours were nothing she hadn’t dealt with before and an election campaign in the country has nothing on organising a ball in Egorian! SECRET – ONLY GM should read:
Calo suggested he called upon the Patron to draw some additional power. Said he had done it himself before and that it worked. It was the last thing she wanted to do, but in her desperation to not fail, she followed through one night. She rented a room in a hotel on one of the many built up gothic streets in Egorian. She called upon the presence of the Patron and made a deal. She gained access to her psychic powers, but at a cost. She still has this mistake hanging over her to this very day, but cannot stop herself drawing on these powers to succeed, addicted to them. Skills, hobbies and leisure activities:
Melenae has a terrible penchant for spending all of her money on fashion and beauty treatments. Otherwise, Melenae is also a fond reader, liking to disappear into a story away from all the problems she has to solve and the troubles that plague her day-to-day life. Melenae spends time to listen out for any news from the Bellflower network, to see how she can be of service to any halflings escaping from Cheliax. Knowing she owes the network her own happiness and soul. Goals and aspirations:
Make a positive change. Be known for her success with the positive change. Raise the successes of the Bellflower network by giving them another source to send any slaves seeking freedom her way. Quirks, traits and misc:
-She takes pleasure in spending time on her appearance and judges very quickly on others’ appearance. -She has a soft-spot for those who are treated poorly by their masters/bosses etc and often over-steps trying to over-solve their problems. She often tries to solve problems that do not even exist. -She never manages to keep a relationship going longer than a few weeks, and has called previous ones off for reasons as spurious as “he wears socks in bed”. |
