As I understand Thieves Tools (and Masterworked tools), you can either gain a bonus to a disable check or you can automatically defeat any barrier. Not just a barrier you could have used disabled to defeat, but ANY.

Is this really the right understanding? I mean not only is it extremely counterintuitive and fluff-breaking that you can use a tool-kit to overcome stuff like an Ambush or a Goblin raid. But it also means it is THE item to have to overcome barriers. At least in our games it has meant that items like Mattock, Crowbar, all the items that boost Acrobatics aren't used. One player even banished the Chime of Unlocking because he would rather keep his masterworked tools.

Especially the Masterworkd tools are a problem as it can supposedly defeat ANY barrier with up to Difficulty 14. So far this has meant an auto-defeat for any barrier (we are in adventure 4).

When an item or feature becomes so good that everyone wants it, it's a balance problem (especially when 4 players want the MW tools and there are only 2 in the game). So I hope we have missed an update that errata the tools to only be able to defeat certain barriers. For instance only barriers with the Lock or Trap trait.

If there are no errata we have missed. What do you think the consequence would be of changing the tools to defeat only barriers with Lock or Trap?

Hi I ask this because the online Game Reference Document: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ doesn't have any information of the Scimitar (or the falchion).
It does however for the Elven Curved blade, which is described as a longer thinner scimitar, and that allows Weapon finesse.

I had the old Beta-version of the rules set lying around and there is no text for the Scimitar or Falchion in that either.

So first off... can I use Weapon finesse with it?

Secondly, why is the descriptive text for these two weapons missing?

Thirdly. If I wanted TWF with two Scimitars (the iconic Qadira symbol), are there any way to get that without -4/-4?

Hello.

Does it cost any action to switch a weapon between your free hands?

The reason I ask is that I got a character with a light shield and a shortspear. I want him to draw a javelin throw it at someone and go back to holding his shortspear with as few actions as possible.

---

If it is a Free Action I should be able to do it with no problem:
I put my shortspear into my light-shield hand (free).
I draw a javelin (part of a move action as I got +1 BaB).
I throw my javelin at someone (standard action).
I switch the shortspear back into my main hand (free)

If it is a Swift Action I can't do it as I will end with a free main hand and the spear in my shieldhand.

If it's a Move Action (same as if I had to draw it) I would be able to do it only with Quick Draw, which I would prefer to be without.

---

Slightly related: Does it cost any action to switch a weapon from being held 1h to 2h or back?

---

Another side question. IF I do have quickdraw is it then a free action to put a weapon away as well, or is it only free to draw it?

Thanks.
