About Maverick Silidar

Appearance:
Maverick is somewhat short for an elf, not quite reaching six feet. His hair is dark and helps him blend in among the shadowed trunks of the forest near his home. He carries a pair of well worn cold iron daggers, and looped at his belt is a set of bladed rings. When out stalking the minions of Treerazor, Maverick wears leather armor, leather boots and a dark blue-green cloak that blends with the shade.

Backstory:
"Maverick Silidar is a reckless and compulsive delinquent who's knack for finding trouble is only surpassed, narrowly I might add, by his luck and brilliance for escaping the very disasters that he himself so often creates. While near catastrophes do seem to follow the boy like a lost puppy, I find myself coming to the realization that I am always glad to have him nearby, for you can be sure that if it is within his ability, he will do everything he can to ensure that any complications that might arrive are dealt with quite completely and safely.

"Why, just the other day I had him escort me from my tower to a lovely bakery down on Lilac (the bread is terrible, but the baker...). Hmm? Oh yes, well, as we were walking, and I was reciting the tale of how our people had once left this world when the seers foretold a time of great darkness, when a little bit of darkness decided to find us. A pair of Treerazor's minions leapt forward to greet us. Nasty little creatures, I think these may have been rabbits once, before they were twisted by the tainted presence deep in the forest. Anyways, I tried to thunk one of them in the head with the tome I was carrying, but it didn't seem to even flinch. Fortunately, Maverick was quick with his knives, and even managed to take down the second with magic when it turned to flee, no doubt to report on our presence to something far more menacing.

"Maverick is one of the most talented young minds I have had the pleasure of instructing, though he only really excels at the skills that truly catch his interest. I'm told he has become an exceptional marksman, with both knife and bow, ever since he was attacked by a corrupted vine when he was a child and declared a (short-lived) war on the entire forest. Likewise, his magical studies have progressed quite quickly, and his teachers have told me that when he is not busy accidentally liquifying his own spellbook, or turning a table into a two-dimensional image, he has surprised them by finding alternate and intriguing new solutions to simple magical equations they had never considered before. They are very interested in seeing what discoveries the boy might make when he begins to take his studies more seriously and tackles the more complex aspects of magic. And I suppose I must admit, he is a very adept pupil in the studies of history as well, though getting him to pay attention to anything that does not involve our people's journey from Golarion to Sovyrian, the return, or the elf-gates in general is a task I no longer even attempt. I have learned in the years teaching him that he yearns for knowledge, but not instruction, and it is I that must learn to give him what he needs.

Maverick Silidar is nearing the completion of his formal schooling, and now splits his time among several difficult tasks. Having passed the rigorous training and examination, he now serves under First Ranger Avar Swiftarrow as a Junior Ranger, patrolling the nearby woodlands for any minions of Treerazor that manage to slip past the Borderguard. When not stalking the forest hunting dark creatures, Maverick is usually found in one of Kyonin's many extensive libraries. His favorite topics of research involve the elf-gates, the exodus to Sovyrian, the return to Golarion to fight against Treerazor, astronomy and clockworks. In the evenings, Maverick is nearly always either in the observatory working on a new and more accurate star map, or in a workshop he's begun to build for himself, constructing a new type of clockwork telescope of his own design. He claims that it will eventually use enchanted focusing lenses that will allow him to detect ripples in the night's sky caused by the presence of conduits through the Astral Plane.

Some day he hopes that by completing his telescope and mapping the night sky, interpreting the sigils on the Sovyrian Stone and learning how the other elf-gates work, he can trace the path of the ancient elves to find Sovyrian without the help of the Stone.

Future Build Plans:
Eventually, Maverick will be an archer (bows are expensive at level 1), primarily using a longbow in combat. He will generally summon an ally outside of combat (1 min/level duration), and spend the first round casting some kind of control or buff spell, then full attack with his bow on following rounds. When not in combat, he can find and disable traps (magical traps will be at level 4), and cast utility spells like teleportation and such.
