About Matrak Sen

'You want to know about old Matrak, hey? Well sit down, and I'll tell you of the terrible curse that he labours under. Ever since my ancestor Marok treacherously betrayed the great Khan Jubai, my bloodline has suffered. My father died when his horse shied when a dog ran in front of it and rolled on him, his father before him was shot in the arse by an idiot from the Two Knives and died after the wound got infected, and his father before him was robbed of every last penny by a harlot who flashed her ample rump at him, then stole his pouch as he was unfastening the thong on his trews. That's the curse, but worse is that all the ancestors who have suffered from it over the generations come back to remind me of it, oh yes. See, there they are now.

<Matrak points at imaginary figures in the distance before throwing a rock at them>

'What do you mean, you don't see anything? Pah, begone from my sight! <shakes fist at ghosts and trudges off>

Matrak Sen is the very definition of fatalistic. He is convinced, more than anything, that his line is cursed due to the treacherous actions of Marok, and that there's always some spectre around to remind him of his misfortune. He doesn't completely believe it, but the tribal shaman told him that he could erase the stain on his soul by performing great deeds of heroism so his name will be remembered through time. So he packed up his meagre belongings, and with the jeers of his tribe ringing in his ears, set off on this fool's errand. Unfortunately, while he is no coward, 'seizing the moment' is not something that comes easily to Matrak - he always assumes the worst will come out of any situation due to his overriding pessimism, so tends to overthink problems, meaning the moment has often gone before he can act. He has resolved to be more proactive in future! Which given that he is a fine rider and archer, and has learnt some of the basics of shamanism from the tribal elders, means at least he has the capability to be that hero. The question is, will he overcome his gloomy outlook to achieve it?
