"Well admit that you're a cop would be a good start. Then maybe tell us your partner..." she shrugs with a bounce of her hair; "Oh you mean as a group, well we need to lynch someone then if the silent guardian gets lucky & catches the cop's bullet we might live for a few more minutes."


Marlene shakes her head softly; "Rick, your words are very honeyed in stark contrast to Corbyn's honesty and fury. Whereas, Kitty my dear - you are much too clever to be so quiet in this. Putting up the occasional sacrifice...."

"Whilst the quiet barkeep and the man with the gun in the corner watch us.... possibly he's the least dangerous of all of us...."

"Someone has to be lynched this round & Corbyn has made up his mind. Whilst the pair of you are against it. And as he knows a tie doesn't work for anyone."


"Damn it, is it you and Kitty; Rick are you the cops? Corbyns seemed fishy... but... gah!" She rises to her feet, softly dancing across the floor.

Change my vote to Corbyn.


"Hey, you really really believe Corbyn was a cop. I don't, I don't know. I'm sure I've got the answer from whispering to you guys.... but, damn it, Tony didn't hire me for my brains." she leans against the table heavily.


"I know, Tony didn't hire me to wipe out patrons and colleagues. But why are the cops here, Tony's been a good boss and you guys are my friends."


"Because I'm not certain & we need to find both of them..." Marlene drawls softly, holding a glass in her hand. "Why, whom do you think it is? Plus if Corbyn is a cop, then I get taken out immediately and if the person we rub out is a cop - then we've confirmed his identity."


"Yes, please Jimmy." Marlene says softly.

"Something strong.... now time for the votes to be counted, I'd guess." She looks around the room; "So Corbyn, you went in the wrong direction for whom to lynch who's your partner? Rick???"

Marlene votes for Rick as a cop.


"Did you want this music on the Wireless Kitty, or would you prefer a tango?" she asks as the waitress walks around the room pointing the the machine to see if the lady wants to help choose a station.


"I believe he's trying to say we need to act. I suppose I've been too passive & relying upon others." She adds critically; "But that's meant too many deaths."

She walks around the room, with thoughtful look in her eyes patting each person on the shoulder.


"So which ones of you are the cops. Geoffrey that police issue that you're pointing around? Rick you not just a private detective? Jimmy is it only drinks you shake-up. Kitty do you serve summons as well as drinks... and Corbyn, an angry cop?" Marlene softly drawls.

"We've not much time, Tony's waiting..."


"I dislike unnecessary bloodshed, especially without proof - Geoffrey. And you were mighty quick to jump on Corbyn's coat-tails with the accusation of Jeremy, now you think Corbyn's a no-good cop?" Marlene says looking down the barrel of Geoffrey's gun.

"Could it be that you are the one that knew their partner wasn't in danger and wanted someone lynched. That you spoke up vehemently earlier because you knew you could never be the target of the fuzz?" She moves closer to Geoffrey to look into his cold eyes as the barrel presses against her.


"I'm not a detective. I've no clue whom they are." Marlene sighs; "It's tricky - I don't think we should rub-out people on a whim of nerves." she adds calmly.


"I don't agree with this..." Marlene says softly, polishing a glass. "Although I've few clues who the nark could be."


Swaying softly as she moves to the sound of the radio; "Seems like we do nothing, if the coppers attack anyone?"

"Remember it's still 6 to 2. The odds are good..... sort of. Just have to find a way of working out how to keep information confidential. Of course it does mean any information is probably no good."


Marlene smiles to the frantic gentlepoet wandering around the bar and puts a hand on his shoulder.

"People don't trust a rhyme,
It can deceive some time.
Don't tell a whopper;
Are you a copper?"


Marlene shakes her head slowly; "That's certainly an interesting idea Kitty...."

She walks over to the wireless, nearly bumping into Jeremy and tunes it to a soft swing music. "There if you want to dance...." The waitress glances across the room as she makes another round of drinks for anyone.

"Well Geoffrey, there's definitely some strange behaviour, I don't just mean under the circumstances."


"I'd say we hope that someone protects the cops next target. Maybe we could all trust someone .... relay secret information - if anyone got any." Marlene wonders softly, holding the tray and tapping Jimmy on his lapel.


From behind the bar Marlene says softly; "Maybe he was giving us some information in case he's assaulted by the cops.... or maybe he's in contact with someone who is? Or he's just trying to rile things up...."

She shakes up a cocktail and gives it to him without anyone else getting near the drink. "Here's something shaken as well....."


Marlene takes back the purse from Kitty, with a loud click to ensure it's closed. Though she has a tickle in her throat as she heads back to the bar the place the purse back under there. She makes a round of drinks for everyone, taking one over to Geoffrey then Rick....

"See, I'm sure we can do alright out of this business. With a minimum of bloodshed."


"So, I believe it'd be best if we held off on any accusations. Some of us have decent detective skills and if so will be able to identify the policemen. Afterall they are very distinctive.... at least usually." She says thinking of poor Dominic.


Marlene looks on aghast as the Boss, Tony tells about Dominic and the raid later on tonight. She shakes her head at Kitty, slightly shocked by the events, for although the bar was rough and ready she'd not seen too many sights as horrid.

Nodding to Mike with a smile for his kindness to her, she gets Kitty's purse and hands it to her friend. Then looks to her own purse and digs around in it for a mirror.

However her eye is then caught by Jeremy's sad eyes and she gets him a decent scotch with a hint of water. "Here it's a good Highland double malt." She leans in; "Don't worry about the tab, I'm not sure money will be good for anyone tonight."


Rushing into the room, with a sideways glance at the nights festivities already underway. Marlene moves over to Jimmy behind the bar, "Sorry, I'm late. Something came up, ya'll know how it is." The habitually late server says, brushing her curls behind her ears with a self-conscious shrug.

She quickly grabs a tray of glasses from behind the bar and moves to a nearby empty table to clean it before a reprimand arrives.
