About Maridel TangleBriar

Background:
Maridel was raised in an Elven enclave by his parents and the rest of their small community, which bordered on a particularly nasty forest known to house multiple portals to the Abyss. He spent the first century of his life learning both the ways of forest and the means to fight back the ever-impending demon horde, before a relative lull in the demonic invasions gave him the freedom to spend relax. He chose instead to travel to the Worldwound, joining with the efforts of Crusade.

Upon first arriving to Kenabres, Maridel found himself assigned to a unit of untested warriors. Slighted, Maridel was eager to prove himself and earn the respect that he thought he deserved as an experienced soldier, and so he took his first opportunity sneak out of the city and engage in one-on-one battle with whatever evil he could find. At first, he found success, coming across a number of weakling demons one-by-one, and dispatching them accordingly. Buoyed, he continued deeper into enemy territory, and continued mowing down his opponents. Well armed and properly prepared as he was, he killed more than a few. However, about the time he took his first serious wound, he realized his mistake. He'd been thinking about 'when' to turn back, and had planned to do so when he had exhausted himself; he'd not considered that word of him would get out so quickly, and so his trek back was doomed from the start.

Maridel used every trick he knew, taking a straight path, then mixing in a loop and doubling back so as to hopefully confuse the demons. When he was confident he wasn't being watched, he ran. His efforts though, weren't enough, and just as he came into eyesight of the Wall at Kenabres, he was overcame by some winged demonic thing he couldn't recognize. He fought his best, but was easily outclassed by the thing. Just when he thought it was all over, his eyes glazing over, a mysterious figure shining in gold and silver robes stepped in from nowhere and dispatched the beast with a single blow. As Maridel passed out unconscious, the mysterious figure turned around and smiled at him.

Everything went black after that. Maridel woke up in his bed the next morning, sore, but otherwise healed, with the blurry memory of his savior forever branded in his mind. He learned to be smarter that day, and to neither overestimate his abilities, nor underestimate his foes. And he also learned that this trip to the WorldWound wouldn't be a short one. He planned on fighting with the Crusade until he found out who --or what-- had saved him.
