Lets say we have a character that has a base ranged attack modifier of +10. Rapid Shot = +8/+8.

Is Rapid Shot + Ranged Spell Combat = +6/+6//+8?

Is Rapid Shot + Ranged Spellstrike = +8/+8//+8?

Is Rapid Shot + Ranged Spell Combat + Ranged Spell Strike = +6/+6//+8//+6?

2 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

The Hunter ability 'nature training (ex)' says "a hunter counts her total hunter level as both druid levels and ranger levels for the purpose of qualifying for feats, traits, and options that modify or improve an animal companion”

The Ranger class under Animal Companion says "A ranger's animal companion shares his favored enemy and favored terrain bonuses."

Does a Hunter gain favored enemy/favored terrain class feature as a Ranger of equal level, so the Hunter can share this 'option' with their Animal Companion?

Could Boneless Leather (leather) be added to a breastplate instead?
Could Celestial Armor (chainmail) be added to a chain shirt instead?

Cleric - Animal Domain: Speak with Animals is a level 3 bard spell, level 1 druid and ranger spell.

According to the FAQ, Speak with Animals is a divine spell because it is being cast from a divine spell casting class. However, the current faqs do not specify whether this SLA is cast as a level 1 spell, a level 3 spell, or both a level 1 and level 3 spell (caster level = cleric level).

Does anyone know what spell level(s) Speak with Animals SLA from the Cleric domain is cast as?

• Spell-Like Abilities, Casting, and Prerequisites: Does a creature with a spell-like ability count as being able to cast that spell for the purpose of prerequisites or requirements?
“Yes.
For example, the Dimensional Agility feat (Ultimate Combat) has "ability to use the abundant step class feature or cast dimension door" as a prerequisite; a barghest has dimension door as a spell-like ability, so the barghest meets the "able to cast dimension door prerequisite for that feat.
Edit 7/12/13: The design team is aware that the above answer means that certain races can gain access to some spellcaster prestige classes earlier than the default minimum (character level 6). Given that prestige classes are usually a sub-optimal character choice (especially for spellcasters), the design team is allowing this FAQ ruling for prestige classes. If there is in-play evidence that this ruling is creating characters that are too powerful, the design team may revisit whether or not to allow spell-like abilities to count for prestige class requirements.”

• Spell-Like Abilities: How do I know whether a spell-like ability is arcane or divine?
The universal monster rules for spell-like abilities states: "Some spell-like abilities duplicate spells that work differently when cast by characters of different classes. A monster's spell-like abilities are presumed to be the sorcerer/wizard versions. If the spell in question is not a sorcerer/wizard spell, then default to cleric, druid, bard, paladin, and ranger, in that order."
For spell-like abilities gained from a creature's race or type (including PC races), the same rule should apply: the creature's spell-like abilities are presumed to be the sorcerer/wizard versions. If the spell in question is not a sorcerer/wizard spell, then default to cleric, druid, bard, paladin, and ranger, in that order.
For spell-like abilities gained from a class, use the spell type (arcane or divine) of that class to determine whether the spell-like ability is arcane or divine. If the class doesn't cast spells, use the above rule for spell-like abilities from race or type.
Edit 7/15/13: Wording changed match the precedent in the universal monster rules for spell-like abilities.
Edit 9/23/13: Wording updated to clarify racial/type SLAs vs. class SLAs.

• Pathfinder Design Team Official Rules Response
The design team does not consider a prerequisite or requirement of "ability to cast 1st-level arcane spells" to literally mean "ability to cast at least two or more 1st-level arcane spells."
Being able to cast one spell of that type and level meets the prerequisite or requirement (if the prerequisite or requirement was intended to mean "two or more," it would say that, or use language like "at least two").

Last night during a fight, our wizard's item familiar was stolen. He is a multiclass (double caster) and was saying that the penalty for losing his familiar carried over to his second caster class. He quoted: "If a wizard attempts to cast a spell without his bonded object worn or in hand, he must make a concentration check or lose the spell." as his reasoning. Is there really a penalty to the second casting class when losing a familiar?

Can you withdraw while prone? Do you move 10 feet while withdrawing this way? Does this type of withdrawing provoke an attack of opportunity?

A Cavalier "Spirited Charges" (3x damage with a lance) someone. If later in the same round another person provokes an attack of opportunity from the Cavalier, does the Cavalier's "Spirited Charge" bonus apply to the attack of opportunity? ... Cavalier's Charge (+4 to hit) bonus apply to the attack of opportunity?

Basically, do bonuses that help with attacks last until the beginning of the character's next turn?

Do they?

Brass Knuckles wrote:
Brass Knuckles: These close combat weapons are designed to fit comfortably around the knuckles, narrowing the contact area and therefore magnifying the amount of force delivered by a punch. They allow you to deal lethal damage with unarmed attacks. You may hold, but not wield, a weapon or other object in a hand wearing brass knuckles. You may cast a spell with a somatic component while wearing brass knuckles if you make a concentration check (DC 10 + the level of the spell you're casting). Monks are proficient with brass knuckles and can use their monk unarmed damage when fighting with them.

If a monk dual wields brass knuckles, is the monk's 2nd attack an offhand attack?

Can a level 1 Gendarme (Cavalier Archetype) take Spirited Charge as their level 1 bonus feat without meeting the prerequisites of Spirited Charge?

Feat: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/feats.html#_spirited-charge

"Prerequisites: Ride 1 rank, Mounted Combat, Ride-By Attack."

Archetype: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateCombat/classArchetypes/cavalier. html

"Bonus Feats: A gendarme trains to be a mounted terror, almost to the exclusion of all other abilities. He gains bonus feats at 1st level, 5th level, and then every three levels thereafter, but must select these bonus feats from the following list: Improved Bull Rush, Mounted Combat, Power Attack, Ride-By Attack, Spirited Charge, Spring Attack, and Unseat. If the gendarme has already selected all of the listed feats, then he may select his bonus feats from those feats listed as combat feats. This ability replaces tactician, greater tactician, master tactician, and the standard cavalier's selection of bonus feats."

Improved Steal (Mythic)

Your light fingers can lift even the most closely held item off an enemy.

Prerequisite: Improved Steal.

Benefit: You gain a bonus equal to half your tier on checks to attempt a steal combat maneuver, and to your CMD when an opponent attempts a steal combat maneuver on you. These bonuses stack with those granted by Improved Steal.

Furthermore, you can make an attack of opportunity against any creature that attempts a steal maneuver against, you unless it also has this feat.

My character leveled up last gaming session and I'm supposed to have it ready by tonight's game, but I can't decide which route to go. The options I am thinking about are L2 Fighter: Dodge + Crane Style (+1 BAB, -2 to hit, +4 to AC when fighting defensively) and L2 Zen Archer Weapon Focus (Composite Longbow) + either Dodge or Far Shot + 1 bonus level 3 feat (+1 BAB, +1 to hit, 2 feats). Which would you choose? If you choose something not listed, what would you choose instead?

Does a level 5 Gnome fighter qualify for Craft Wondrous Arms and Armor (gnomes can cast spell like abilities with caster levels = their character level)?

Level 10 Standard Bearer (Cavalier Archetype): Horse Master, Animal Ally, Eldritch Heritage -
L1 Nature Soul
L3 Skill Focus (Knowledge Nature)
L4 Animal Ally (horse)
L5 Eldritch Heritage (Sylvan: horse), Mount (horse)
L7 Boon Companion (horse)

Horse Master: "Use your character level to determine your effective druid level for determining the powers and abilities of your mount."

Animal Ally: "You gain an animal companion as if you were a druid of your character level –3 from the following list: badger, bird, camel, cat (small), dire rat, dog, horse, pony, snake (viper), or wolf. If you later gain an animal companion through another source (such as the Animal domain, divine bond, hunter's bond, mount, or nature bond class features), the effective druid level granted by this feat stacks with that granted by other sources."

Eldritch Heritage: "Select one sorcerer bloodline. You must have Skill focus in the class skill that bloodline grants to a sorcerer at 1st level (for example, Heal for the celestial bloodline). This bloodline cannot be a bloodline you already have. You gain the first-level bloodline power for the selected bloodline. For purposes of using that power, treat your sorcerer level as equal to your character level – 2, even if you have levels in sorcerer. You do not gain any of the other bloodline abilities."

Sylvan Bloodline: " At 1st level, you gain an animal companion. Your effective druid level for this ability is equal to your sorcerer level – 3 (minimum 1st)."

Boon Companion: "The abilities of your animal companion or familiar are calculated as though your class were 4 levels higher, to a maximum effective druid level equal to your character level. If you have more than one animal companion or familiar, choose one to receive this benefit. If you lose or dismiss an animal companion or familiar that has received this benefit, you may apply this feat to the replacement creature."

What is the effective level of the animal companion? Would it cap at 10, because that is the players level? Would it be 14 because the level cap is 10 and the boon companion is 4 (10+4=14)? Would the Animal Ally levels stack with either of those numbers (10+7=17 or 14+7=21)? Would Eldritch Heritage affect any of these numbers to determine the level of the animal companion?

One of my players had a question that I didn't know the answer. He wants to play a multiclass character, level 8 inquisitor/level 4 gunslinger (if the character lasts that long). He is wondering if the Pistolero and Mysterious Stranger archetypes (Gunslinger) would stack, since between level 1 and level 4, none of the alternate class features alter the same base class feature. Do you know if these archetypes would stack in this case?

There are classes in Pathfinders Modules, various magazines, etc. For example, the Hellknight Commander prestige class appears in Council of Thieves: What lies in Dust module. Is there a list somewhere to separate the classes considered '3rd party' from the classes that are legal?

If a Hippogriff Rider takes the prestige class Mammoth Rider, can the Ranger still use the Hippogriff as her mount? Does the Hippogriff grow huge and gain other benefits like the steeds listed in Mammoth Rider?

"Steed (Ex)
A mammoth rider can choose from among the following animal companions to serve as her loyal steed:

Arsinoitherium, aurochs, baluchitherium, camel, cat (big), elk, horse, mastodon (elephant), megaloceros, rhinoceros, triceratops, wolf, or woolly mammoth (use stats for a mastodon).

A GM might expand this list to include other possible steeds. This steed functions as a druid's animal companion, replacing any animal companion or mount gained from another class. The mammoth rider's class levels stack with other classes that grant an animal companion to determine her effective druid level.

Gigantic Steed (Ex)
A mammoth rider's steed increases to Huge size. The creature receives a –1 penalty on attack rolls and to AC, and a –2 penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1); its base damage increases by one size category; and its reach increases to 10 feet. It also gains a +2 size bonus to its Strength and Constitution. At 3rd level and every two levels thereafter, the Strength bonus increases by an additional +2; the bonus to Constitution increases by an additional +2 at 5th and again at 9th level."

I am making a mounted archer. So far, I have these two build ideas:

L1 Dragoon (Fighter Archetype) +1 (Mounted Combat, Skill Focus (Ride), (L1) Mounted Archery)
L2 Zen Archer (Monk Archetype) (Perfect Strike, Improved Unarmed Strike, Precise Shot)
L3 Zen Archer (Monk Archetype) +2 (Weapon Focus (Longbow), (L3) Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot)
L4 Spire Defender (Magus Archetype) (Dodge, Combat Expertise, arcane requirement for arcane archer)
L5 Samurai +3 ((L5) Deadly Aim, Order of the Blue Rose)
L6 Samurai (Stage Combatant equiv, +2 damage to nonlethal) +4
L7 Samurai ((L7) Weapon Specialization, Quickdraw) +5
L8 Dragoon (Fighter Archetype) (Point Blank Mastery) +6
L9 - L12 Arcane Archer

OR

L1 Dragoon (Fighter Archetype) +1 (Mounted Combat, Skill Focus (Ride), (L1) Mounted Archery)
L2 Zen Archer (Monk Archetype) (Perfect Strike, Improved Unarmed Strike, Precise Shot)
L3 Zen Archer (Monk Archetype) +2 (Weapon Focus (Longbow), (L3) Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot)
L4 Zen Archer (Monk Archetype) +3 (Point Blank Mastery)
L5 Spire Defender (Magus Archetype) (Dodge, Combat Expertise, arcane requirement for arcane archer, (L5) Deadly Aim)
L6 Hippogriff Rider (Ranger Archetype) +4
L7 Hippogriff Rider (Ranger Archetype) +5 (Quick Draw, (L7) Far Shot)
L8 Dragoon (Fighter Archetype) (Clustered Shot) +6
L9 - L12 Arcane Archer

Samurais get a mount. Rangers get a flying mount. Which build is better at this? Is there anything you would change?

Where do you find the chart/list of dieties favored weapons?

After character creation and without taking a level in an arcane spellcasting class, is there any way to acquire the ability to cast, spell-like ability, or supernatural a L1 arcane spell through feats/traits/etc.?

I GM a game. Last session, one of my players brought in a Human L3 Zen Archer (Monk Archetype)/L1 Emissary (Cavalier Archetype).

Monk says both "When wearing armor, using a shield, or carrying a medium or heavy load, a monk loses his AC bonus, as well as his fast movement and flurry of blows abilities." and that L3 monks get +10 movement speed.

Emissary says "In or Out of the Saddle (Ex)

At 1st level, an emissary gains Mounted Combat as a bonus feat. In addition, he can move at normal speed when wearing medium armor."

Does the Emissary ability cancel out the monk penalty for wearing medium armor? What is this character's speed?

It came up. Should it be allowed? If so, how much should it cost?

In this thread, I am seeking GMs and players to post rules they find conflicting, ambiguous, or unclear; rules that GMs have to rule on when they come up during a gaming session. To start off this thread:

Can players see beyond their perception bonus + 200 feet?
Does Ride-By attack imply overrunning/trampling their target to continue moving or allowing charging in a not direct line or require charging directly towards the target, then provoke an attack of opportunity to continue moving that round?
Does crafting magical items with reductions to crafting price reduce the final sale price of the item?
Can a player who uses their first swift action substitute their move action or standard action for another swift action in the same round?

Are attacks with the primary hand considered primary attacks? Are primary attacks made with the primary hand? Are these two questions like a venn diagram where sometimes they are not the case?

The spell Blood Money says:
You cast blood money just before casting another spell. As part of this spell's casting, you must cut one of your hands, releasing a stream of blood that causes you to take 1d6 points of damage. When you cast another spell in that same round, your blood transforms into one material component of your choice required by that second spell. Even valuable components worth more than 1 gp can be created, but creating such material components requires an additional cost of

1 point of Strength damage, plus a further point of damage

for every full 500 gp of the component's value (so a component worth 500–999 gp costs a total of 2 points, 1,000–1,500 costs 3, etc.). You cannot create magic items with blood money.

Is this further point of damage - strength damage? If not, was it intended to be strength damage?

A lot of people on the message board have been asking about how to raise caster levels for various reasons, recently. Can we, as a community, come up with a completed list of caster level bonuses from traits, feats, items, class abilities, etc.?

If someone took 4 levels as a Hospitaler (Paladin Archetype) and 2 levels as a cleric, would their channel do 2d6 or would each class have their own pool of channels/day?

The Sailing Ship description says:
"The massive sailing ship is used for ocean travel. It can carry 150 tons of cargo on top of a full crew and passenger complement. A sailing ship can carry 150 tons of cargo or 200 passengers."

Farther down in the description, it says "Crew 20".

Does a Sailing Ship get a passenger complement and if so, how many passengers make up this complement?

Is the NPC Skilled Worker an Expert? If so (6+int skills), how many professions would be reasonably covered by one skilled worker? What is the bonus the skilled worker give his/her professions/skills? Does the skilled worker come equipped with normal or masterwork tools in their profession? What type of stats would be reasonable for a skilled worker to have if someone wanted to flush out their workers a bit more?

Does Cape of Bravado make Still Spell pointless?

"when held in one hand while draped over the arm, the cape obscures its user's movements in combat."

In its entirety, the description of Cape of Bravado is as follows:

"This bright red garment bestows no benefit when worn on the shoulders, but when held in one hand while draped over the arm, the cape obscures its user's movements in combat.

Used this way, the cape bestows a +1 insight bonus to AC and a +5 competence bonus on Bluff checks to feint in combat. Readying the cape in combat is a move action; if the wielder has a base attack bonus of +1 or higher, the wielder can ready the cape as a free action as part of movement.

Once per day as an immediate action, a creature brandishing a cape of bravado may attempt to compel an opponent within 30 feet to attack him on its next turn (Will negates DC 11)."

Eyes of the Eyebite:

"These glasses look like golden teeth holding a pair of green-tinted lenses.

The wearer may use eyebite 11 times per day on command, affecting one target for each use of the spell. The wearer does not need to use these rounds consecutively, but each activation is a standard action (unlike the spell, in which targeting a new foe is a swift action). If the wearer removes the glasses, the eyebite effects immediately end."

I have been reverse pricing items to see what is overpriced/underpriced (because I have lots of time to kill). This item's book price is 30,000g.

To make this item from the spell Eyebite (Caster Level 6 x Spell Level 11 x 1,800 (command word) x 11/5 (charges per day) = 261,360 g

Did paizo mess up when they wrote the description of this item? Did paizo seriously under price this item? Is my understanding of how to reach the price incorrect?

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/artifacts/minor-artifacts/deck-of-many- things

Jack of Hearts = Gain the service of a Level 4 fighter.

My DM threw in a Deck of Many things and I mathematically figured out the magic number of cards to draw is 7 (to have slightly less than a 50% chance to draw one of the "I'm dead" cards). One of the 7 cards I drew was the Jack of Hearts and poof, a L4 fighter joins the party.

This member of the party gained XP from adventuring and leveled.... up until the DM questioned me today whether the L4 fighter can gain levels.

Can the Jack of Hearts L4 fighter from the Deck of Many Things gain levels?

Human: Unarmed Fighter
"At 1st level, a unarmed fighter gains the Improved Unarmed Strike feat and any single style feat as a bonus feat. The unarmed fighter

""need not meet all the prerequisites of the style feat he chooses,""

but style feats that grant additional uses of the Elemental Fist feat cannot be taken until the unarmed fighter has that feat."

Q. If the Human, Unarmed Fighter takes Earth Child Style, does s/he gain +6 dodge bonus to AC?

"Benefit: While using this style, your defensive training dodge bonus to AC increases to +6. Further, against creatures of the giant subtype, you can add your Wisdom bonus on your unarmed strike damage rolls."

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

" Scrolls and potions whose base price is more than 250 gp, but less than 1,000 gp, take 8 hours to create, just like any other magic item. The character must spend the gold at the beginning of the construction process. Regardless of the time needed for construction,

"" a caster can create no more than one magic item per day.""

This process can be accelerated to 4 hours of work per 1,000 gp in the item's base price (or fraction thereof) by increasing the DC to create the item by 5.

The caster can work for up to 8 hours each day."

Does this 'one item per day' rule apply to making L1 potions and scrolls?
