So, in the section "Playing the Game" conditional and circumstantial bonuses have the following line of text: "Circumstance/Conditional bonuses range from +1 to +4", However, Barbarians Rage Feature says: "Gain a +2 conditional bonus to damage rolls with melee weapons and unarmed Strikes. The bonus is halved if your weapon or unarmed Strike is agile. This bonus increases by 1 at level 3 and every 4 levels thereafter."
If I am to assume the former rule denotes a limit of +4 for conditional bonuses, then that means that barbarian rage's conditional bonus would cap at +4 at 7th level, which seems incorrect to me.
As an additional note, Giant Totem "Titan Mauler" feature says: "When
you are wielding such a weapon in combat, double your conditional bonus to damage rolls from raging", which means a barbarian with this totem could cap their conditional bonus to damage from rage at 1st level, and this feature from Giant Totem would be completely invalidated by 7th level.
Right now I'm reading the rule in "Playing the Game" as a generalization of what conditional/circumstantial bonuses usually are, believing it to define a general rule that may have exceptions, instead of a hard limit to +4. Anyone agree with this, and could I get some clarification on how that's meant to be interpreted?
