Hey, not to worry - I expect there's ways around it. Possibly just give him a scroll of Wish (a bit heavy-handed, but still...) and just assume he makes the casting check? It's only likely to be, what, DC18? Or, maybe, Ma'kar's spent several thousand years researching an arcane version of Forbiddance, 'just in case.'

It's a good idea - it'd certainly curtail the summoning - but can Ma'kar actually use a Limited Wish to do this? I seem to recall it's very stringent about what spells can be duplicated, and, as Forbiddance is Cleric 6 (I think), isn't this outside the limits for the spell (...Duplicate any other spell of 5th level or lower, provided the spell is not of a school prohibited to you)? At the very least, Ma'kar still has to find the 1,000s of gp material components (...rare incenses worth at least 1,500 gp, plus 1,500 gp per 60-foot cube) though I might assume he has a few things lying around after all that time...].

Well, referencing just the SRD, I'd have thought that, as it's a force effect [and thus technically solid], it would block line of effect on any spell [qv line of effect details and Wall of Force description]. Thus, it would be likely that the cleric in the example couldn't mass cure anyone outside the sphere, nor could he be hit by charm person, fireball or lightning bolt... However, I wonder if the cleric could teleport or dimension door out? Wall of Force doesn't block them, but it's a plane, not a sphere - the force effect blocks ethereal transit, but don't the aforementioned spells use the astral? Any thoughts?
It certainly would be too powerful if its effects stacked, but I think this comes under the rule that an effect or spell does not stack with itself. 8-) Only the highest effect applies, I believe, and in this case, the maximum STR loss would be -10, I guess. Still a big hit, but not crippling for the giant... Of course, multiple castings would kind of extend the duration, but you'd need to keep track of each STR penalty and apply it sequentially as each spell expires. |
