Sorry, I think I have to pull out of the campaign. A combination of a loss of interest and a busy couple of weeks coming my way. Thank you for taking me in, and good luck to everyone on their drive to Guistenal!

I myself have just been kind of occupied all over, uni is back in business after two years and I managed to net myself a pretty good internship I can't f~+! up. Sorry for the lack of posts.

Sorry for the silence, I was a little lost but I'll catch up.

Spending the walk alongside the caravan in mostly silence, Magnus enjoyed the peace of a stroll in the desert and allowed everyone to talk things out and settle themselves as he renewed his connection with the sandy expanse of Athas. Spending most of his days underground made him forget the feeling of the grains beneath his feet, and how the grainy medium modified his expanded tremorsense.

Taking the time to acquaint himself with everyone's different kinds of steps and weights, especially for the brief moments when Daqas and Tkk-Tkk would spend on the ground, Magnus trudged along with the party.

Børak wrote:
Turning to Magnus, hand signing. "Tell Joshua we will deal with the plants."

He nodded, having hung back with Joshua as the rest made sure the way ahead was safe. "Seems like there's danger ahead, my friend. Tell the caravan to wait, we will handle it!" Assured Magnus with a jovial grin, before he quickened his step to join the rest of the guard and to repel the danger that would face them.

As he re-approached the group, they would notice that Magnus' skin, once bearing cracks and rough edges like a stone, would redouble in this unnatural appearance and, more than ever, closely resemble the hardness and roughness of rock. Furthermore, one could swear that with each step, the sand and ground beneath his feet moved with and alongside the mul's momentum, almost as if obeyed his will.

Magnus will spend 3 burn to increase the DR from Flesh to Stone to DR 6/Adamantine, and hop back along with the rest of the party. Hopefully I also get Haste?

How many beasts and people in the caravan? It looks like Elaine rides her ankylosaurus and Tkk-Tkk and Daqas fly. Børak purchased a Crodlu Warmount. Magnus do you have a mount?

Magnus walks on foot, barefoot. Gotta pay respects to my girl Toph and stay connected to the earth, yo.

Magnus nodded to the interactions and leaned back on one foot, allowing himself to listen as everyone got a little more acquainted and a new face introduced itself to the group. Though Magnus wasn't exactly fond of halflings in his own experiences, he wasn't really one to judge another for their backgrounds, instead letting actions and words speak for themselves. Who knows, perhaps Zok could be a good friend.

"Good, good. The more the merrier, is what I always say!" The miner exclaimed, before clapping once, twice in cheer and leaving the circle to aid with the preparation efforts.

...But, not before yelling out a boisterous question. "Ah, when are we set to leave, my friends? As soon as the caravan is packed up?"

Sorry for the lack of replies, I visited my mom for the holiday and I wasn't able to sneak in any writing. I'm back at home, should be able to get a post in either tonight or tomorrow.

Disclaimer: I have no idea if we can teach Elaine by the time we reach Guistenal. That's Magnus speaking, not me xD

Thought it fitting his hand signs were a bit rough and stiff from lack of use, which is why the english is a bit broken. Give the man some time and he'll be speaking it well enough, just gotta remember how to do it.

Male Mul Brawler/Kineticist 6 | HP 95/95, DR: 6/Adamantine | AC: 22, Tch: 17, FF: 16 | Fo: +13, Re: +10, Wi: +10 | Init: +10, Perc: +13 | CMB: +12 | CMD: 29 | Burn: 3/10, Martial Flex: 0/6

Magnus nodded at the interaction, a smile across his face. Ever the jovial, upbeat man despite his advanced age, the mul brawler lifted his hands and made slow motions with his stocky fingers for a few moments, trying to remember how to gesticulate words with the sign language. It did take him a moment for the skill to slip back into place from disuse, but when they did, he allowed his muscle memory to carry him into a conversation with the gladiator.

"Magnus." He said out loud, with a thumb outstretched towards his chest. In part, because it was a way for him to introduce himself to everyone and not just Borak, and in part because spelling names with the silent language was... difficult for the miner, so it was also a way for him to avoid embarassing himself.

Still, the rest of the conversation, he'd continue with signs alone. Lived in Kurn for many years, but born in the Silt Sea. Long way from home, I know. He communicated, somewhat roughly, chuckling at the last part. Long story, but Kurn better than home. That for sure.

And as his gestures ended, Elaine's began, along with a few endearing words from the half-giant. "Ah, and my hands are a bit stiff from mining all day. Don't worry, my friend, if I could learn it, then you'll be fluent in it by the time we reach Guistenal!"

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"Ah, that explains it, my friend. It's good to see a son following his father's steps, respecting the family's business." The mul would reply, a jovial smile on his face.

A smile that fades all too quickly, as Magnus' eyes flicker to Borak for but a second. Years as a caravan guard before settling down in Kurn made it second nature for the Earthshaper to remain on guard at all times, even within allied company. But, it also gave him enough experience to recognize these same instincts in others, and from that, he nodded almost imperceptibly towards Borak, understanding where the gesture came from and what kind of man the fellow Mul was from it alone.

Another glance, this time lingered for more than a moment, and Magnus would take notice of Borak's board, its writ bearing his name, and some simple words with which to communicate. The man's head tilted to the side at this, and he'd lift his bruised, wrapped hands. With an index and a middle finger, Magnus traced a straight line across his palm, before closing his fist and jostling it towards Borak.

It was stiff, not as fluid as it was supposed to be -- Magnus hadn't used the Kurnese hand sings in a long while. Still, he was sure that the gesture still carried the rough meaning of "well met, warrior" it was supposed to.

As the conversation developed, another figure would emerge from the caravan and come in sight of its retinue. Large, imposing, and bearing many scars and trinkets scattered across his body and packs alike, the man would finish loading some supplies into the carts and horses, clap his hands to signify a job well done, and stride forward to introduce himself to the gathering of five.

"First time?" His voice would ring out at Joshua last few words."So your caravan hasn't rode through this route before?"

Instead of thinking of it as deaf/mute language, I would prefer to think of it as a silent battle language.

Ah, got it. Makes more sense for Magnus to know about it if it's something like that, so even better.

I'm down for it. Magnus probably had a friend or two that were mute either by birth or by... workplace hazards while mining or in mercenary work, I'd say he picked up a bit of it just so Borak isn't always using the board for communication.

Unless someone here has telepathy. Sounds like a thing at least one of us would have, given all the psionic stuff flying around xD

There's nothing preventing you to have Incarnate as a tattoo. I read the rules forwards and backwards, and there is nothing preventing a psionic tattoo of incarnate.

Huh. Must've missed something then. So, if I'm not mistaken, it'd net me 2.5k for each tattoo, since they're both of power level 1?

Athas has a proud tradition of tattoos which might be a good way to justify permanent spells, and although I haven’t looked into psychic crafting, expansion is essentially enlarge person so presumably you could get permanent expansion tattooed without it being too out of place in a setting with actual half-giants wandering around.

Combing through options, I did find this little thing. I thought about purchasing an Incarnate'd Expansion power, but sadly, as per the Scribe Tattoo feat and the general Psionic Tattoo rules, Incarnate is too high level to be inscribed into a psionic tattoo.

In my opinion, this is all just a very contrived way of remaking a system that already exists in the Permanency spell and its many uses. I'll leave it up to DM ruling, but I'd like to buy a permanent Enlarge Person spell/Expansion power + a permanent Resistance spell/Fortify power, reflavored if need be. If neither is allowed, I'll settle with an AoMF and use it only on magical properties to unarmed strikes instead of the standard +1 bonus.

Sweet, thanks for the invite!

I still got a ton of gold left. I was wondering if I could spend the remainder of it in permanent spells? Or that too arcane-y for our setting?

Big day today. Good luck everyone!

I think Magnus is fully complete, crunch, backstory and everything. I settled on something of an outsider, born in the Silt Sea and having traveled across Athas for years before settling in Kurn and becoming a miner. Hopefully I got the nuances of Dark Sun right, I read the books but it's still my first time poking my head in the desert.

All that's left is spending the remaining 5.2k Cp. If Magnus is accepted, could I spend my remaining ceramic on permanent spells instead? 5k for permanent Enlarge Person + Resistance spells sounds like a solid deal.

Even if we go 'half' for the ABP he'll have plenty cash left over for a few items.

I'm in the same boat. Usually I spend all my gold on as many +1s I can get, but with the ABP system I'm actually stumped on what to take. I did end up finding a pretty nice interaction between Vicious + Flesh of Stone's DR, which lets me get +2d6 damage at no recoil, but aside from that I'm not sure what else to spend gold on.

Also I went to check the Brawling enchantment and realized it's cost got errata'd to +3 instead of +1 as it used to be. Kinda b*~$*#&! if you ask me but whatever, you do you Paizo :^)

Here's my earthben- I mean, earthshaper. Totally not the same thing at all :^)

I ended up ditching Kinetic Knight. The restrictions were a bit too tight for me, plus as much as I'd love to flurry with Kinetic Blade, we definitively aren't lacking in the damage department and I'd much rather get the feat and magic item support that unarmed combat has. Ends up still being quite the solid switch hitter, so I suppose we'll be bumping shoulders in the frontline, Robert!

Still gotta do the backstory and stuff, but I think the crunch is done save for a very much necessary once over to ensure it's all good.
