At 11th level, this resistance increases to 10. At 20th level, this resistance changes to immunity to the chosen energy type. Disruption (su) (class): At 1st level, you gain the ability to disrupt spellcasting with a touch. As a melee touch attack, you can place a disruptive field around the target. While the field is in place, the target must make a concentration check to cast any spell or to use a spell-like ability in addition to any other required concentration checks. The DC of this check is equal to 15 + twice the spell’s level. If the check is failed, the target’s spell is wasted. This field lasts for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 your wizard level (minimum 1). You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Intelligence modifier. Statistics:

Iozif's parents were proud folk. Both were great supporters of the rebellion against Count Beauturne and consequently found themselves in positions of comfort and security in the early days of the Palatinate rule. As a child, Iozif and his two older brothers Henric and Andrezi wanted for very little. The three children had the best education money could buy, intended to set them in good stead for a life in politics as part of the ruling council of Lozeri. All three children showed great promise in their schooling, but none more so than Iozif. As the boy grew older however, Iozif became less and less interested in politics. His favourite area of study was that of magical theory, closely followed by history. Iozif was fascinated by what he read of the Whispering Tyrant, that all powerful wizard who sculpted much of Ustalavic history. Looking around at the petty squabbles between the council members in Lozeri and the nobles further afield, Iozif realised that this war torn country didn't need any more leaders. It needed protecting. At the age of 16, Iozif journeyed to Lepidstadt University to further his magical studies. His parents were less than impressed with this choice of career path but had long ago given hope on turning Iozif into a leader, instead focusing their efforts on the much more charismatic Andrezi. While Iozif kept in touch with his parents he never went back to Lozeri, finding much greater happiness in the honesty and fraternity of his compatriots in Lepidstadt. Eventually Iozif's parents passed away, and both of his brothers rose to positions of power in Lozeri. Iozif went home for the funerals, but other than that has rarely left the city or the university he calls home. Iozif completed his studies in magical theory and took a post at the university researching the art of defensive magic under the tutelage of Professor Petros Lorrimor. Iozif completed his doctorate at the age of 24, around the time Professor Lorrimor left the university to continue his work elsewhere. For the previous two decades Dr Drabardi has continued his research into defensive magic, tutoring younger wizards and working in collaboration with academics from all over Avistan. He regularly kept in touch with his old mentor and was deeply saddened to hear of his recent passing. At the time Iozif was in Korvosa, presenting his latest breakthrough in abjuration magic at a prestigious academic conference. Ironically this work, which would never have succeeded without the aid of Professor Lorrimor, prevented Iozif from attending the old man's funeral. Iozif instead gave his respects by dedicating this work to the late professor. In the weeks since the funeral Iozif has returned to continue his work in Professor Lorrimor's name. Though he means to visit Ravengro soon and pay his respects properly, Dr Drabardi has once again become caught up in his studies. News of the capture of the notorious beast of Lepidstadt has also kept Iozif in the city for the time being.
Personality:
Raised by a family with ambitions of leadership and power, Iozif cannot help but set lofty goals for his own achievements. Well versed in the etiquette of both ruling and scholastic society, Iozif can sometimes come across as stuffy and old fashioned in his speech and mannerisms. He believes in the rule of law, whether that law is passed down by popular vote or divine mandate, though he has little interest in the petty squabbles of the ruling classes. Iozif's work has given him both a wariness and respect for the darker side of magic, and he believes strongly that Ustalav must learn to defend itself from such evil and overcome its gruesome past if it is to ever become more than a shadow of its former glory. In person, Iozif often comes across as your typical absent minded academic. Those close to him postulate he may have spent too long in his ivory tower to see how the country around him is changing, but in truth Iozif has always strived to keep up with current events. In conversation he speaks with the clarity and style befitting one of his profession, though many of his students get the feeling that he likes the sound of his own voice a little too much to actually listen to what they have to say. While not working (a rare occurrence), Iozif enjoys the many artistic pursuits his scholarly wage can afford him. He can often be found in the theatre or the debating hall, though more often than not he spends his free time with a book, an open fire and a glass of fine Chelish brandy.
Appearance:
Iozif is a little shorter than the average Varisian, and a little stockier than most too. One would struggle to call him fat, but he has the look about him of one who spends most of his time engrossed in the scholarly pursuits rather than the athletic. His age is beginning to show a little in the lines around his face and the transition of his thick hair from black to grey. Iozif wears full academic dress almost all the time, being too lazy or absentminded to consider anything else. When in dangerous territory Iozif carries a worn and rarely used crossbow from his waist, though he almost always resorts to magical defences if threatened during the course of his work. |
