Thanks Motteditor.
I appreciate the effort to breath life into it more than once, but I do agree it is time to let it go.

Some scouting will be in order. "If nothing else we can get a message back to Arwyll stead about the forces arrayed."

Lyra (and Olive most likely) will take point on that part.

Hey all, I can't reach internet from my phone without it opening to a page saying 'click to win an I-phone'. Since I won't click OK (its a trap!) I am unable to lurk. It is also the time of year where I spend ALL day at my day job..
I will be back to posting normally next Tuesday, but it will be sporadic until then. Thank you for your patience.

Lyra smiles at Lisbet and is surprised by her uncharacteristic eagerness to take the offensive. "Watch Terrin's secret entrance," she warns the mayor once safely out of Yvogga's presence. "She was looking for a way in and wasn't too far off. Others might think of the same tactic."

Lyra casts a spell and scans the area for other magic while the negotiating and binding happens.

Assuming nothings is revealed she attempts to disguise their tracks before returning through the secret door.

Detect magic. Ready to move on I assume.

Once she feels the link disappear the half-elf will send more centipedes in.

We can continue to wait. We can charge in. Or we can wait a round or two (filled with ambush springing centipedes). My vote is for the third. Can I propose that once two 2 people agreeing we proceed with that action? Waiting for infrequent posts for 100% consensus creates infrequent posting :)

The half-elf wants to know each person's preference. How many of you want to search for the scouts?

How many wish to stay and guard Vergazi? She includes herself in the latter.

The mayor wants us to protect Vegazi from townsfolk who do not see her value. Could the scouts master be one of those?"

On the way to the visit Proum at the Arwyll estate Lyra recounts the heroism of Vegazi. When we first met...

motteditor wrote:
Unfortunately, your fears seem to be realized as the clang of metal on metal and the shrill whinnies of frightened horses can be heard from up ahead. As the dusty road curves around the hills, a scene of battle comes into view some hundred feet away. Panicked horses bolt past, and corpses litter the ground around the road—some are recognizable as human guards or fallen horses, but others are are twisted, winged, horned monstrosities with fiendish features. All of the combatants have fallen, except for two of the flying yellow monsters attacking a lone, wounded half-orc woman wielding a bow.
motteditor wrote:

The strong-looking half-orc woman, blood streaking down her face, shows her teeth, possibly a smile, possibly a threat.

"I called Vegazi," she says in poor Common. "Devils attack so I kill them. But they are strong. You are thanks for helping."
Behind her, five human bodies lie on the ground, along with a half-dozen quickly disintegrating gaav devils and a green-skinned woman with thin horns curling from her brow, a mane of crimson hair, and knobby, undeveloped wing stumps on her shoulders.
motteditor wrote:
"You are thanks," she says, watching you warily. "I am not calling these companions. I live in the hills for many and many years, when I long leave my forebears' tribe. I see the devils, so I try and help. We should help them more, and bring them back to their home."

The half-elf also accounts the various sister's Vegazi has fought against. "She helped prevent the tombs from being plundered (or worse), fought off an attack on the inn, and helped us escort the outlying steaders to the safety of the town." Upon seeing Grev she recounts some earlier parts of her history, recently discovered.

motteditor wrote:

The man shakes his head as Lyra begins telling the story -- interrupting that he's far too busy writing his book to go gallivanting off with just anyone -- but his entire demeanor changes when Philgor and Lyra finally enter.

His eyes shift to the half-orc and a moment later a flicker of recognition crosses his face.
"YOU!" he cries, as the young woman looks astonished at the reaction.
"HER!" he cries again, to the rest of you, gesturing at Vegazi.
He begins scrambling through his paperwork and finally pulls out several pieces of paper which he shoves toward you, with drawings of a man that looks a bit like Wate Arwyll and a young Vegazi.
“She rescued Captain Adil and myself many years ago from the Hell’s Fury prison camp!”
He grins at Vegazi as a look of confusion crosses her face.
motteditor wrote:

The old man grins as you express interest in his writing, but snatches his papers away before Shackleton can see them.

At Philgor's comment, Ort grins ruefully. "I'm afraid I do the cooking in the family, but I'm happy to see if there's something we can eat. Come along, children," he says, retreating to Grev's kitchen.
As they leave, Grev begins to read from his tale. It's sadly clear right away that writing was not a natural skill for the man:
“And then I pulled my sword out of the orc, and the blade made a terrible smacking noise as the orc cried, ‘Raaarggh!’ If my sword had a voice, it would have screamed right back at the orc, spitting the monster’s blood in his face,” he begins.
He looks up to see your reaction, but then quickly returns to his papers.
“The stench was terrible. It was a battlefield stench, the kind you never forget: the wretched stink of blood and battle.”
"No, no," he says, "that part's not quite as good. Let me ... wait ... here it is!
“The battle was over, but even as my brothers and I whooped for victory, I noticed my bloody stump of an arm flopping about. Like a lumberjack apprentice’s first attempt at chopping down a fine cherry tree in its youthful bloom, the orcs had whittled my limb so badly it weren’t worth saving."
Eventually, you get him to tell you the story of his meeting with Vegazi. He had been captured, along with Adil Arwyll, a young nobleman, and several other soldiers from Arwyll Stead. They were being kept as slaves by a tribe of orcs. But then a battle broke out among the orcs. In the chaos, a girl -- Vegazi, it turns out -- freed all the slaves, who fled. Adil gave the girl his ring (which Vegazi still has, and shows you) in gratitude but they never saw her again as she slipped into the woods. Until now, obviously.

Though it took me a while to find the right posts, here are some of Vegazi's backstory as promised to the halflings. I moved it to the discussion thread to not detract from the new request. A request Lyra would be happy to accept.

Is there any thing more from the mayor? It felt like we.finished there, but maybe I am missing something obvious.

"No Vergazi I, your life is as valuable as any other's. And you have willingly risked yours for the people here since we first met you saving their scout from those devils. I would only ask that you do whateveryou must to draw the Fury's attention from here." the half elf will describe the woman's bravery to the halfling as best she can.

We were talking with the mayor when the latest commotion began correct? If not let's see what information he can offer.
"I agree, today we can visit the tribe after a rest. Vegazi, if your presence has drawn the Hell's Fury fury here I suggest you leave. You are an asset and welcome to join us, but you needn't sacrifice anymore," she looks around to the others to make sure everyone agrees. "I hope we are all rowing the same raft Vegazi's involvement. I can't ask her to do any more."

Lyra nods in agreement with the big woman. "One way or the other, I think the only end is to go to the tribe. I will fill you in on the story, so far as we know it," she says in answer the couple's questions.

Though it may take me a while to find the rights posts for the details.

So, the lass was not married, but she had someone or something called 'Olive'? "You will find your life mate when you aren't lookin'. But who's this Olive? And for that matter, I didn't catch yer name, lass", looking to the Half-Elf inquiringly.

Lyra, not sure if Qiola, Xorrin or Rizu can see Olive at the moment. Sorry.

"Oh. Sorry. I am Lyra Greenshell. My parents met on my mother's final adventure. She had already lived many human lifetimes and they settled to raise me. The closer her time came, the more she wanted to return to Kyonin and introduce me to her family. They mostly shunned me, but one cousin was kind to me. He had a pet too and could call animals to his side. He taught me much about magic and nature and such." She blushes and almost stutters the rest of the story. She lifts her shirt to reveal a curved scar across her torso. "I knew a lot about turtles growing up. One gave me this. So when my cousin told me about turtles that flew through the ocean currents, I was intrigued because I had never seen a turtle that could fly. I imagined a turtle with wings when I tried to call a pet of my own. Olive answered my call."

"Our 'crew' started when we happened upon a half-orc fighting off devils and another half-orc. I pray there are no more need, but if there is of course we have room for more." She relates the attempts to get the outlying homesteads safely into town. "Boars, wolves, eagles ...a heyna I think. Yeah every day we were attacked by them and it was because of yet another half-orc. A druid, I guess, since the first time we found her, she was in an eagle form." She reflects on the memory a moment. "At the time I thought she was the boar, but that turned out to be an error on my part. I brought her back for the mayor to decide on her justice. or you can read pages 10-17 :)

The archer takes a break. "The half-orcs--sisters all, so it seems--have a parent with a grudge against the steaders. Grev can tell you more of their backstory," she pauses and looks around the room. "Mr. Mayor we brought Grev back, he should be able to answer the questions you wanted to ask."

To the earlier question the half-elf adds. "Mom & dad were married, but she wanted to die with her kin. I went with to meet some of my cousins, but dad was taken by orcs while I was gone. Truth be told, Mom thinks I am too young for that, though dad laughs at this. So no, ,not married. Besides I have Olive."

"What a lovely kitty," the half-elf comments before answering the mayor. She relates the last couple of nights to him ending with the connection between Vegazi and her numerous sisters. "It seems one of the orcs has made a pact with devils."

Any storytellers want to elaborate?
