About Lydia Kaplow
Lydia Kaplow
From a large family with three older brothers who treated her like one of the guys, Lydia Kaplow is a tomboy through and through. Growing up she was a source of great consternation for her mother, having no interest in typically girlish activities. Instead of dancing ballet, Lydia played hockey--on the boys teams no less. She played with Lego rather than Barbie dolls. She hated wearing dresses, always kept her hair short and never got into makeup so when her younger sister, a girly girl who is also very slim, pretty and dainty in comparison, came along, Lydia's mother was quite pleased to have the daughter she had always wanted. Lydia enjoys a close relationship with her brothers and father, who never seemed to want her to be something else, but remains cool and reserved with her mother and sister, who always seemed like they did.
Rather plain in appearance and shy as well, Lydia has a hard time fitting in or even attracting attention so she has only a few friends. Those that take the time to get to know her find her interesting and fun to be around however. She is a gifted athlete, excelling at any sport she tries but she does not participate on any of the college's teams, mainly because she feels uncomfortable and out of place around other women. She loves to camp, hike, fish and doesn't mind getting her hands dirty or working hard.
Mechanically inclined and fascinated by the operation of complex machinery, Lydia works part time pulling wrenches at a garage owned by a friend of the family while in school. A great lover of animals, she also operates a small dog walking business in her neighbourhood--no employees, just her--to earn extra spending money. She is taking courses towards a business degree because she knows she doesn't want to work for someone else the rest of her life but is uncertain of just exactly what she does want to do.
