Lucius was originally from Cassomir, a bustling trade city at the mouth of the Sellen River. As a youth, he was a bit of a troublemaker. His daring exploits led him into the subterranean maze of Corgunbier beneath the city, where he stumbled upon a room filled with colorful crystals. Coveting the gemstones for his own collection, he took a brown and a blue crystal. In his haste to escape the pursuing deros, he tripped and smashed the two crystals together. The event, which he later named "The Rupture," resulted in an explosion of elements that left him scarred with runic symbols and heterochromatic eyes—one brown and one blue. It also opened his kinetic gates to the elemental planes of Earth and Air.
The brutal aftermath of The Rupture deemed Lucius unstable and unsafe for the city. His newfound elemental powers were difficult to control, often overflowing with devastating effects when he lost his emotional balance. Cast out from Cassomir, Lucius was sent to live with the druids in the Verduran Forest. The druids helped him gain control over his new powers, guiding him toward inner peace and balance. The natural setting and the duties of a warden allowed him to better understand his connection to Earth and Air.
Lucius became a Verduran Warden, patrolling the trails and byways of northern Taldor and ensuring the forest's sanctity. This role gave him an inner peace that allowed him to control his elemental powers more effectively. However, the job did not pay well. Seeking some extra income, Lucius accepted a quick job with Silas Gribb's caravan to guide them through the forest and protect them from any animal or fey interference. The position also allowed him to ensure that the caravan was not poaching or polluting.
Over the years, Lucius developed specific quirks and traits that seemed almost a direct manifestation of his elemental affinities. Steadfast and contemplative like Earth, yet free-spirited like Air, Lucius is a man of varied pace. He often checks the wind direction and performs grounding rituals before making any significant decisions. Although his scatterbrained tendencies sometimes got the better of him, his overcautiousness often saved the day. When alone or relaxed, he would whistle tunes that mimic the rustling leaves and the flowing streams.
His peculiar eyes and runic scars often drew attention. The scars glowed faintly whenever he wielded his elemental powers, a visible sign of his extraordinary abilities. Each scar seemed to channel the raw energy directly from the elemental planes, making him an awe-inspiring figure to those who understood the true nature of his powers.
Despite the complexities of his life, Lucius found his role deeply rewarding. It afforded him not just a way to keep his powers in check but also a sense of purpose, one that he had long sought in his turbulent journey from the underbelly of Cassomir to the heart of the Verduran Forest.
