hi. just ordered three PDFs, as you'll see. i could open saltshacks and the great city just fine, but the blood throne bundle wouldn't open, even after i upgraded my adobe reader to v9. the message i repeatedly got was 'error opening' the file and 'problem reading (14)'. any ideas what i'm doing wrong, or is the file corupt? or something else beyond my ken? i'd appreciate any feedback you have on the issue. thanks. wayne cayea

plus, oerth journal #23 just came out, with a decent version of warlock's walk. hey, it's not dungeon magazine, but it is pretty good stuff just the same (plus i think some paizo staff have ties to OJ ;)).
i seem to be having bad luck with my dice orders.... let me revise my order again. please cancel the quantity of 5 ivory death dice (black spots) in my order. instead replace the dice with quantity of 10 koplow bone dice found here: http://paizo.com/store/gameAids/dice/byManufacturer/koplow/d6/v5748btpy77wf thanks. wayne cayea

I don't think I'd be able to keep one group unaware of the others - my gaming group is more than half made up of married couples. :) But that sounds like a blast! my wife was the only member of both groups. she did struggle with not saying the wrong thing to the wrong group - but we pulled it off.
i've been doing this for the past 8 months. it has worked surprisingly well. actually, i had an additional twist - group B knew of group A, but A thought it was the only group. early on we did challenge of champions and group B won by 5 points over A in second place - both did amazingly well. group A just thought the other group was an NPC team. i also do a newspaper, and there are always articles about what happens in adventures, and group B kept popping up, but A again just thought it was an NPC group. since they got more of the glory, though, A took a strong dislike to B. finally, just a few weeks ago, i set up a joint game. group B arrived early, and sat upstairs. group A got set up, then i had group B come down to join us and everyone's mouth on group A was agape. everyone loved it and we had a great session (although with too many people). i intend to have full group sessions one or two times a year, but otherwise keep them separate. i may steal your idea of switching teams at times though; that sounds fun.

ouch. a critical oversight on my part. i guess just leave things the way they are, and i'll have to pick up 355. thanks for the info vic.
"So my posting FREE content, including very detailed summaries of each level, which is my intent, which would perforce include sketch maps of each or fully rendered roughs, is a way to continue building the setting and at the same time organizing it in detailed outline form for future (possible) publication. In either case it stays expanding rather than shunted aside, and that's the main idea, heh?" this sounds great, uncle. as many others have said as well, maure castle is my favorite adventure, and the reason i finally subscribed to dungeon before issue 112. i didn't want to miss anything maure related. as it turned out, i got many other great adventures as well, as the paizo people produce some awesome stuff. MC will always be my fav, though. i eagerly await anything and everything you create for the setting.
Right off the top of my head, no. Fiendish Codex I mentions it I believe, but I don't have it with me here at the public library. page 155 of FC:I lists a "-" for layer, meaning he does not rule a layer, is in contention for one, serves another lord, wanders, or is trapped. considering he is tied to the tome of the black heart and maure castle, i'd opt for the last one (trapped).
yeah, savage tide was what got me thinking of this in the first place, but it'll be a while 'til i get to that. i wanted to do some foreshadowing and stage setting with some other baddies first in prep for that. anyway, thanks for all of the ideas. i will do some reading in the fiendish codices and re-read por. house to see what i can come up with.

They are all too worried about being stabbed in the back/eaten by their own kind! thank for the response phil. sorry if i wasn't clear. your point is my point as well, actually. i'm not looking for a devil vs. demon fight, but some demon:demon OR devil:devil action.
i'm curious if anyone is aware of an adventure wherein the PCs become involved in a plot of a demon or devil (either would work in this case) who schemes to overthrow their rival or liege. i would like this coup d'etat to be a major part of the adventure itself, not just backstory. i am drawing a blank trying to come up with a published module or a dungeon magazine adventure similar to this. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Fake Healer wrote: Somehow, the Narnia books and movie are considered "good Christian literature" lewis was a christian scholar and his whole purpose of writing naria was to prep children for growing up to be good christians. narnia tells the same story as the bible, using different characters. the lion is jesus, making the sacrifice, etc. children were supposed to later be able to look back at narnia when they later encountered christianity and say, 'oh, that's just like narnia....' and the way would have been pathed for their acceptance and faith. the connection seems lost on most people i've talked to, however. i, myself, never made this connection until we studied it in a college lit class....

as you will uncle. i must say, maure castle is my all-time favorite d&d adventure, so i'm eager to gobble them up as quickly as you can get them published, but i'll try to restrain myself. ;)
since a subtle approach didn't work, let me be more direct here. what is the policy for dungeon magazine adventures to be republished for sale in other publications under different rules systems, but while retaining all of the flavor text and some artwork? is there a time period after which this is allowed, or once it's in dungeon, it lives there forever? in other words, there is another "company" i know of that appears to be plagiarizing and reselling adventures and artwork from old dungeon magazines, and then selling it for profit. although it is possbible they have permission, my instincts tell me that they are doing so illegally and feel obligated to notifiy dungeon staff.
does anyone know if the author and artist for 'the djinni's ring' from issue #9 are still working in the field? their names are vince garcia and daniel horne, respectively. if anyone knows anything about these two men, especially how i can get in touch with one or both, please let me know. dungeon staff - any thoughts? many thanks.
hellacious huni~ well, it was t&t rather than d&d, but i've got one black ops story. in basic training for the army we weren't allowed to have dice. i had my soft-covered t&t rulebook (passed off as my one allowed 'magazine') and in my wallet was a change pocket that i'd smuggled in like 10 tiny dice the size of the pips on normal dice. all 10 were little bigger than a finger nail. we would move our lockers to block view and play for hours on sundays, our only day off. the dice were easily hid, and while the lockers raised a few eyebrows, we never got in any trouble for it. on the larger topic, i've never had many religious problems with roleplaying. two teachers were concerned with me playing in middle school, but after i explained the game, and compared it to the creative writing and poetry i was doing in their classes, they were cool with it. one of the teachers was coming at it from a religious angle. one of my best friends, whom i played with, moved away in 8th grade. we continued playing through the mail until he was converted to christianity and didn't want to play anymore because it was evil. he tried to make up his own military rpg to play instead, but of course it flopped and i never heard from him again.
Murkmoldiev~ finally! i've been reading everyone's post and wondering 'didn't anyone start out play tunnels & trolls?' at least you did. i've been role-playing since about 1982. i'm now a 35 year old teacher of the deaf. i've played t&t, d&d, tmnt, elfquest, powers & perils, warhammer, gurps, call of chtulhu, and ... i think that's it. i'm most familair with the first two. while i'm really fond of the history and cosmology of d&d, i'm still drawn to the flexibility, playability and humor that t&t offers. it's all a matter a taste, of course, but some of us don't like the fact that in d&d there's a rule for everything that has to be looked up before play can proceed - that just wastes time. once the mechanics of t&t are learned, any situation can be resolved in mere seconds without consulting the rulebook. on the other hand, you can use variant rules to make t&t as convoluted as you like. i'm not trying to start a system-snobbery flame here - i am a fan of d&d (or else i wouldn't be here); i just wanted to give a wink to murkmoldiev for his t&t relate. fiery dragon has a new edition of t&t coming out, with two sets of rules. one is st. andre's 7th edition of t&t, and the other is fiery dragon's attempt at making t&t more like d&d/d20, from what i can gather. i'm most curious to see how they manage this, as it will resolve quite a few of my own gaming issues if it is done well. my own games often involve elements of both d&d and t&t.
i always find this attitude interesting. i don't even play d&d, so none of the mechanics of any dungeon or dragon article are useful to me. nonetheless, the backstory and whatnot always inspires me with a million ideas for use in my campaign. people who complain that an article is completely useless to them have no imagination whatsoever. in addition to what our good editor said about spending time and money elsewhere (than buying dragon), these people should consider finding a new hobby all together that doesn't require any thought on their part. just watch TV or something. ;)
