Background:
Lonen worked as a personal guardsman for, Ismonel, a wealthy merchant in Arad Doman. His father had fought as a soldier against Tarabon, and had given his son a martial education. As he came of age, Lonen and his father began to fight about his future. His father wanted him to join the military, but Lonen was more interested in gambling with friends and flirting with the young ladies in town. He accepted the guardsman position because the pay was good enough to support his wild lifestyle, but it ended up being more than he bargained for. The job itself was easy. The problem was Johanneh, the merchant's daughter. Lonen had caught her eye early on in his career. He was usually a shameless flirt and she was certainly attractive, but he knew Ismonel was very protective of her and that getting involved would end his career.
One night he returned to his quarters from escorting his employer on a month long trading journey. He found Johanneh waiting for him in his bed. Lonen realized there was no way he could explain this situation, so he made the best of it. He spent a lovely night with the vivacious young lady, and at dawn he packed all he could carry, used his saved up wages to buy a horse and some equipment and skipped town. Not long on the road he met up with some Hunters of the Horn and followed them west across the Almoth Plain. He thought their journey was a fools errand, and when they passed through a small village called Valbrin he decided it was time to part ways.
