Background:
Lisasha was born in the year 4635, shortly before the second Mendevian crusade to two human farmers at a small farm outside of Kenabres. Her parents knew that even good people would fear and resent a tiefling amongst them with the worldwound so close. Truth be told they were a little scared of their child themselves, but they could not help but love her all the same. Believing in nurture over nature Lisasha’s parents raised the child the best they could, and with the Tiefling’s slow aging they had plenty of time to instill a sense of compassion in the child, and showed her productive ways to channel the destructive urges of her demonic blood.
And so it was that over the next sixty years Lisasha spent her life on the small farm, and despite being the couples oldest child saw her twelve younger siblings sprout up around her, leave home, get married and grow old or die. And during all this time Lisasha was kept a secret from the world at large, and while a few of her siblings kept quiet about their Tiefling sibling out of shame, most did it to keep their sister safe from ignorant villagers and over zealous inquisitors. This secrecy most assuredly saved Lisasha’s life during the third crusade where even the slightest hint of demonic influence was enough to get someone burnt at the stake.
By the time Lisasha was old enough to help out on the farm her parents were to old to run it and were forced to sell it off and move into a small house in nearby Kenabres. The remainder of the gold gained from the sale of the farm was given to Lisasha to help her find her way in the world. Inspired by her parents good nature and the pride they always expressed in supporting the war effort in their small way Lisasha journeyed to Nerosyan to train at the Iomedan church and learn the ways of the Paladin, champions of good.
On her way to the capital Lisasha was kidnapped by a group of cultists who jumped her as she made camp by the side of the road. She was knocked unconscious, and when she awoke she found herself strapped to a stone alter with hooded men chanting all around her. She was more scared in that moment than she had been her entire life, even more than when the inquisitors came by her farm as a child. She could feel a fel energy in the air, and as the chanting came to a fever pitch she felt the energy seep into her. Lisasha didn’t know what the point of the ritual was, but she could feel her abyssal heritage begin to take hold of her, snuffing out all of her love and compassion. At the last second before her sense of self was extinguished Lisasha willed control of the energy entering her and with a shout of ‘NO!’ her bonds exploded from her body. The cultists were surprised, and in their confusion the tiefling was able to grab one of their daggers, and planting it in the heart of the cultist between her and the door, make her escape.
Lisasha continued her journey to the capitol from their and did her best to put her experience with the cultists behind her, in no small part because it was the first time she had ever killed someone. Despite her best efforts however, she would be plagued by constant nightmares about that night from that day on. Eventually though, she was able to make her way to the heart of Mendev.
Lisasha’s time at the church was not easy, and she was mistrusted from the start by her instructors, her fellow students and the general population around her. Her parents raised her well however, and after sixty years of love the eighteen she spent hated was not enough to break her spirit or make her own kindness diminish. And while it took her much longer than any other student to get through the academy Lisasha eventually changed enough minds and hearts and she was given her armor, weapons and her first assignment, guard duty in Kenabres. And while her parents passed away during her training Lisasha was proud to guard the city that offered protection to her childhood home.
