A Magnimarian of Varisian descent, Lila was the 4th of 5 children born to well-to-do tailors. Her great-grandfather made a small fortune selling an ancient book. He settled down in the city and opened a shop. Succeeding generations were less interested in learning about Great-Grand-dad's story and more interested in expanding their clientele (and their coffers.) Lila, however was fascinated with the story. She loved stories of ancient magics and civilization.
Knowing she would never inherit the shop, Lila asked to be apprenticed to a local mage. The mage was a stuffy and traditionalist sort, but he was a good teacher and she learned quickly. When he finally deemed she was ready, he presented her with her own spellbook and the plain robes he believed all wizards should wear. He told her if she wanted to learn more about ancient magics, she should head to Riddleport and study with the Cyphermages.
Her parents were less than thrilled when she announced her intentions to leave, but they supported her anyway.
Lila learned more than magic from her mentor. She picked up on some of his self-importance, as well. She is also somewhat impulsive and sometimes doesn't think things through. Like this trip to Riddleport. She is currently sitting in Sandpoint, wondering how she's going to find the Cyphermages. But that will have to wait until after the Swallowtail festival. She wants to see the butterflies.
