Backstory
The world wasn’t a fair place. It was a simple fact. Innocent people were punished for nothing. Monsters made off like kings or became literal kings. The people of Wanshou knew this. A kingdom dominated by a literal monster, an Elder Kraken that masqueraded as a living god. Enslaved by numerous aquatic monstrosities, the humans of that kingdom were never far from getting dragged down to a watery grave if they stepped out of line.
This didn’t stop people from trying to better their lives. Some tried to appease their mad owners, being the best slaves possible in order to curry favor. Some try to flee, sneaking out of the nation into surrounding ones. Some seek bargains with other beings, their desperation leading them to reach out to the evil spirits of the land. Liedae comes from one such family, a mother who sought a dark pact with the oni in exchange for a chance at freedom. She got an answer and cultivated dark magic in secret. When the time came, she escaped.
A long time has passed since then. She fled far from her old home, leaving the continent to study magic abroad. Many places she went, many people she met, including the wizard Abernard Royst. Adventures were had, but eventually, she grew tired of wandering. Her thoughts turned the plight of her home, the people she left behind. Bidding her new friends farewell, she returned home, searching out and joining a resistance. Eventually, she married a kind-hearted woodsman who warmed her heart. The two eventually had a child… who did not come out as expected.
The magic she had long channeled from her patron had warped their daughter. The babe had pale orange skin and a tiger’s tail. It was obvious that she was a tiefling, an oni-spawn. The child was raised all the same, though things were never the same between her parents. She grew strong, brawny, and quick, with a surprisingly calm temper. What she had in spades, however, was gluttony. Her toothy maw would consume anything laid before it, and the child would commonly attempt to steal more food.
At the least, she was raised virtuously, the mother using a favor to get another member of the resistance to teach her swordplay. Taking advantage of her brawn for some good. Her father taught her survival techniques and woodcraft, as she had only average intellect. She grew into a competent enough warrior and woodsmen, even taking lessons from a blacksmith to produce her own blade. A letter came from an old friend, asking her mother for aid. She could not come… but her daughter could do with a place to grow, not dominated by evil. So with magic, she teleported, and Liedae came to the Emerald Spire. Hopefully she doesn’t die in there!
