Special Abilities
--------------------

Racial Traits:
Low-Light Vision: Half-elves can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.

Dual Minded: The mixed ancestry of some half-elves makes them resistant to mental attacks. Half-elves with this racial trait gain a +2 bonus on all Will saving throws. This racial trait replaces the adaptability racial trait.

Elf Blood: Half-elves count as both elves and humans for any effect related to race.

Elven Immunities: Half-elves are immune to magic sleep effects and gain a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects.

Keen Senses: Half-elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception checks.

Multitalented: Half-elves choose two favoured classes at first level (Swashbuckler & Bard) and gain +1 hit point or +1 skill point whenever they take a level in either one of those classes.

Class Features:
Inspired Panache (Ex): Each day, an inspired blade gains a number of panache points equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 1) and Intelligence modifier (minimum 1), instead of just her Charisma modifier.

Unlike other swashbucklers, an inspired blade gains no panache from a killing blow. She gains panache only from scoring a critical hit with a rapier. This ability alters the panache class feature.

Inspired Finesse (Ex): At 1st level, an inspired blade gains the benefits of Weapon Finesse with the rapier (this ability counts as having the Weapon Finesse feat for the purpose of meeting feat prerequisites) and gains Weapon Focus (rapier) as a bonus feat. This ability replaces swashbuckler finesse.

Deeds: Swashbucklers spend panache points to accomplish deeds. Most deeds grant the swashbuckler a momentary bonus or effect, but some provide longerlasting effects. Some deeds remain in effect while the swashbuckler has at least 1 panache point, but do not require expending panache to be maintained. A swashbuckler can only perform deeds of her level or lower. Unless otherwise noted, a deed can be performed multiple successive times, as long as the swashbuckler has or spends the required number of panache points to perform the deed.

Derring-Do (Ex): At 1st level, a swashbuckler can spend 1 panache point when she makes an Acrobatics, Climb, Escape Artist, Fly, Ride, or Swim check to roll 1d6 and add the result to the check. She can do this after she makes the check but before the result is revealed. If the result of the d6 roll is a natural 6, she rolls another 1d6 and adds it to the check. She can continue to do this as long as she rolls natural 6s, up to a number of times equal to her Dexterity modifier (minimum 1).

Dodging Panache (Ex): At 1st level, when an opponent attempts a melee attack against the swashbuckler, the swashbuckler can as an immediate action spend 1 panache point to move 5 feet; doing so grants the swashbuckler a dodge bonus to AC equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 0) against the triggering attack. This movement doesn’t negate the attack, which is still resolved as if the swashbuckler had not moved from the original square. This movement is not a 5-foot step; it provokes attacks of opportunity from creatures other than the one who triggered this deed. The swashbuckler can only perform this deed while wearing light or no armor, and while carrying no heavier than a light load.

Opportune Parry and Riposte (Ex): At 1st level, when an opponent makes a melee attack against the swashbuckler, she can spend 1 panache point and expend a use of an attack of opportunity to attempt to parry that attack. The swashbuckler makes an attack roll as if she were making an attack of opportunity; for each size category the attacking creature is larger than the swashbuckler, the swashbuckler takes a –2 penalty on this roll. If her result is greater than the attacking creature’s result, the creature’s attack automatically misses. The swashbuckler must declare the use of this ability after the creature’s attack is announced, but before its attack roll is made. Upon performing a successful parry and if she has at least 1 panache point, the swashbuckler can as an immediate action make an attack against the creature whose attack she parried, provided that creature is within her reach. This deed's cost cannot be reduced by any ability or effect that reduces the number of panache points a deed costs.

Charmed Life (Ex): At 2nd level, the swashbuckler gains a knack for getting out of trouble. Three times per day as an immediate action before attempting a saving throw, she can add her Charisma modifier to the result of the save. She must choose to do this before the roll is made. At 6th level and every 4 levels thereafter, the number of times she can do this per day increases by one (to a maximum of 7 times per day at 18th level).

Background
---------------------
Alright, let me make a few things clear before I share this with you—despite what you might think, I was not born out of wedlock. My parents are quite happily married (for now, at least). So if you feel the need to call me a bastard, please make sure it’s because of my irreverent demeanour and not because of my parents’ marital status.

Anyways, yes—I am a member of the Aulamaxa family of Kintargo; an esteemed, aristocratic lineage that prides itself on its support of the arts. Opera, painting, literature—you name it, odds are we’ve donated some money its way. I’m the only child in my branch of the family so far. My father, Jarrod, fell in love with an elven opera singer, Tessara, who came here on tour and courted her with a passion few could rival. Mom was smitten with him, and they got married after a couple years of courtship.

To hear my folks tell it, I was quite a hellion growing up. At the time, I didn’t see how I was—I mean, sure, I teased other girls my age and called them names, but that was in response to them teasing me about my ears first. And besides, I was much more creative in my insults than they were—you can only hear the same variation on ‘point-ears’ for so long before deciding you could come up with something more expressive and hard-hitting than that.

But, clearly, my parents disagreed. And so they put me through Lady Docur’s School for Girls. They were hoping I’d learn enough manners and decorum that I’d mature into a young woman who could make her opinions on things known without offending other people. And I did—but here’s the thing. My command of language and invective improved sharply as I was put through school, so all I really learned was to insult people more effectively and with more subtlety.

Come to think of it, that’s how most conversations at court work, if we’re being completely honest.

Still, I wasn’t a total embarrassment to the Aulamaxa family. During my studies at Lady Docur’s, I discovered I had a talent for painting and sketching works of art. That, coupled with my natural proclivities towards aggravation and ridicule, paved the way for my budding career in political satire. I’d sketch drawings depicting the ruling class in exaggerated and comical ways, usually in reaction to the latest news and attempts at passing laws.

Which made things quite a bit more interesting when House Thrune invaded Kintargo (come on, let’s not mince words here) and set up martial law. Suddenly, my targets for resounding political mockery were not fellow aristocrats, but the iron-mailed fist of the Chelaxian royal family itself. Most people would balk at taking the mick out of them; I saw it as my new favourite pastime. I prided myself on subverting Barzillai Thrune’s latest proclamations in such a way that they follow the letter of his laws, but not the spirit.

And it’s why I’m here in Aria Park today—what better time than to raise a little hell against Thrune’s golden boy and get away with it?

I just hope my parents don’t get involved in this… I really don’t want them to get hurt…

Description & Personality
---------------------
Before you stands a petite half-elven girl with a pixie cut of strawberry blonde hair peeking out from a vibrant red musketeer’s hat with a white plume by the crown. Her clothing is equally vibrant, and surprisingly not embroidered—a blouse with mixed red and gold velvet and silk, and sandy brown pants with black boots. A sharp-looking rapier is at her side, along with a wooden truncheon and a dagger. Her soft blue eyes stare into yours with a confident gleam.

Lia is an irreverent, sharp-tongued firebrand of a half-elf. She’s rarely without a vicious remark to throw at a nearby Thrune, be they merely a supporter or Barzillai Thrune himself. With that being said, a closer look at her eyes reveals a great deal of pent-up anxiety—a sharp reminder that she isn’t nearly as confident as she thinks she is. She loves her parents and extended family very dearly, and any threat to them will cause her to drop the jokes and jibes and focus entirely on keeping them safe.

She has a deep fondness for making fun of the aristocracy she’s a member of, and is just as fond of laughing at herself. She makes a point of never targeting her jibes at those who don't deserve them. Her latest target of vicious mockery is Barzillai Thrune himself—and he’s given her no shortage of material to work with. She’s especially fond of her latest sketch work that’s making the rounds around Kintargo—that of a terrified Barzillai screaming in horror and fleeing from a nursery of confused babies holding sprigs of mint in their chubby hands.

Traits & Drawback
---------------------
(Campaign) Gifted Satirist: I had a talent for raising a little hell among aristocratic circles even before Thrune came to power, and you can thank Lady Docur’s School for Girls for refining my sharp tongue to a razor’s edge. Or perhaps it comes with being an Aulamaxa. Either way, I get a +1 bonus to Linguistics checks, and Linguistics is always a class skill for me. Incidentally, I have a +2 bonus to saving throws against fear effects. That comes from my sheer willingness to poke fun at those in power who wouldn’t appreciate being mocked.

(Combat) Fencer: When it became clear to my parents that I wasn’t going to go the classical route of hiding my political critiques in letters and novella, they chose to bite the bullet and provide me with instruction in the arts of fencing. Because, inevitably, I’d cross the wrong person one of these days and it’d be a brilliant idea to use something sharper than my wits on them. I gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls when making attacks of opportunity with daggers, swords and the like… that includes rapiers, I hope. Otherwise, I’m going to have a long talk with my folks.

”Why are you at the protest?”: Oh, nothing much. Just looking for trouble. I mean, come on—would you expect anything less from me? That means I get a +2 bonus to Bluff and Sleight of Hand checks during the protest, right?
