About Leto Anguis

Leto Anguis at first glance is a thin young man with jet black hair. But his skin may be the palest you have ever seen. He looks as though he has not seen the sun in years. He is less of a young man than he is an old boy, for he has not truly left his adolescence yet. His body, which at first appears to be only thin, is clearly emaciated upon further examination. A fact that is made more obvious by the clothing he wears. Leto is dressed in tight fitting pure black clothing. It covers every inch of his body apart from his head. Even his hands cannot be seen as they are within black leather gloves.

If one were to observe him for long, they would quickly notice that his face never cracks a smile and that he keeps a distance from everyone around him, becoming obviously uncomfortable if anyone gets too close to him.

Ten Minute Backstory
Goals:
Leto’s:
· Discover the origins of his powers. Only after learning this can he decide if he should end his existence.
· To discover who his father and mother are.
· To learn why he was given away/to find out if he was given away for being a monster
· Find out what he is.
· To find some way to make up for killing little Eliza.
My Own:
· To have him grow up and learn to connect with people after so long distant from them.
· To be able to move on from the past, accept it, but to move on from it.
· To decide that his is not a monster and to grow into someone who does not want to kill himself.
· I would like for him to transition eventually from chaotic neutral to chaotic good. So his story would be the one of a boy becoming both a man and a hero.
Secrets:
From Leto:
-The brand that was given to Leto, while his parents believed it to be a ward against evil, in reality it is a different piece of iconography altogether.
-He is the bastard son of a nobleman and a prostitute. The nobleman banished the prostitute from the city after she came to him demanding money for the child.
-Does not know what happened to his mother.

From Others:
-The fact that he killed a little girl
-His real name
-Why he is searching for information on ancient civilizations
-That he is not just human.
-That people are after him.
-What he plans to decide if he should ever find out what he wants to know (being potentially suicide).

Mannerisms:
-Stutters whenever someone asks him about the past
-Will not allow himself to be touched and keeps a distance of at least 5 feet from women whenever is possible and feels extremely uncomfortable if people are any closer.
- Is fearful of people if they show any evidence of caring for him and will leave the room if this happens.
-If his fangs come out his eyes change into serpents eyes.
-He tries never to smile or show his teeth for fear of losing control.

People:
Friends:
Malachi Amadi
Age: 38
Met: Malachi had been trapped in his farm house for more than a week with an undead creature wandering around outside of his home. With no one around for miles and seeding season upon the region no one expected to see him. Because of this no one knew to send help. Malachi waited behind nailed up windows and doors until the creature was killed by Leto. Ever since then Leto has always been welcome in his home for a nice and warm meal. Malachi met a woman and had their first children since then. Leto always brings gifts for them when he visits. Malachi is one of the few people Leto has regular contact with and considers one of his friends. Leto has never told Malachi about his past for fear of might happen to him and his family should the story go further.

Alaric Zimmel
Age: 63
Living one town over from the town where Leto lived the elderly medicine man opened his door one night to some insistent knocking to find the young Leto at his door chest branded and in extreme pain. It was Alaric who tended to his wounds and kept his injuries from becoming infected. It was also Alaric who kept Leto hidden from members of his village when they came looking for him. Leto views him as the closest thing he has to a father figure. Recognizing that his presence would place the old man in danger Leto does not visit him. However, he does keep in correspondence with him when he can they often leave messages for one another at Silverkeep.

Enemies:
The Silfen Family:
Charles Silfen father and head of the family is a powerful man in and outside of his community. When his young daughter Eliza was accidentally killed by the young Leto, Charles became obsessed with the loss of his little girl. He had Leto’s adoptive parents brought before him and privately “convinced” them (using sharp implements) to tell him all about the young Leto and what had transpired. Convinced that Leto was a monster who had murdered his little girl in cold blood, Charles has few desires dearer to him than seeing Leto’s head on a pike to be paraded through town. He has many friends and unfortunately each of them is therefore Leto’s enemy.

Backstory:
Leto had known his whole life that Silvia and Edward Kellnin were not his parents. While unclear on the details they had intimated many times throughout the life of young Leto that, while not theirs by birth, was theirs by their choice and that they loved him. Leto’s life was for all intents and purposes the same as the life of any other young boy. He played in the field and chased after chickens and assisted his parents around the farm. In this rural community the people believed that they had found a little corner of heaven. All of this pleasant existence came to a rather abrupt end around when little Leto turned 12. For it was at this age that Leto first really saw the young Eliza Silfen. It was at this age that Leto first started the feel the pangs of romance for young Eliza and later that year that they first kissed. While such a moment would traditionally bring joy for normal boys, it was at this moment that Leto discovered that he was not a normal boy. For it was as he kissed the little girl his fangs first presented. The poison dropped little Eliza in a moment but did not kill her right away. As she lay struggling for her life little Leto ran to his parents.

Silvia and Edward Kellnin were terrified when they saw their son. For his fangs were still extended and his eyes were the slits of a serpent. His parents were convinced that he was secretly a monster, and were doubly convinced when they followed him to the dead form of Eliza. To the credit of his parents they did not throw him out immediately. They attempted to save him. Unfortunately they did it in perhaps the most brutal manner possible. They resorted to the most basic form of magic. That of blood. They chained their young son despite his protestations. Then Edward Kellnin went to a small forge he kept to make things in town and shaped a symbol that was supposed to purge monsters and ward them away. He made this into a brand. This brand was then used on Leto’s chest and other brands were used on his arms and legs in an attempt to complete the makeshift ritual. It was very clear that it did not work because no matter what they did he would not be purified and his face would keep turning back into that of a monster. Eventually they stopped and considered what to do as a result of this killing.

Leto at his point ran into the only spot of luck he had that day. The bracket that the chains had been attached to had become rusted over the years and his writhing in pain had weakened it further. Leto worked away at the rusted bracket until it broke. Thankfully the key to his chains had been left on its key at the other end of the room and he was able to unlock himself. At this point he ran to the next town where he met Alaric Zimmel who nursed him back to health and protected him from the Silfen family. After he had somewhat recovered he left Alaric to keep him safe and set out on his own. He walked a long ways before he stopped. It was then that he really considered everything and wondered it was true that he was really a monster. It was at this time that he almost decided to commit suicide. But the decided that he had questions and he needed to know the answers before he killed himself. He had to know what he was and why and that he couldn’t kill himself until he had the answers and decided how he felt about them. He began to travel the countryside gathering more information about ancient serpent civilizations that had been rumored. As he did this he traveled around the countryside helping people along the way. He never truly stopped running after he left home he isn’t sure he will until he dies.
