Male Human Oracle 1

I'm sorry to hear that DM as I was enjoying the game. I hope everything settles down for you soon.

Male Human Oracle 1

I'm still here, was just waiting to see what happened as you advanced down the hallway.

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith shakes his head with a frown. "Bastards will pay."

When the sound comes, he realizes just how dark it is here. He turns back towards where the groan comes, touching his morningstar and focusing a light spell into it.

Male Human Oracle 1

Wisdom 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Lerith scowls at the man who closes the door above them from his place further inside the tunnel where he moved to hide. He hurries over to Lilly and Eyeball though, knowing how much the little dinosaur meant to her, checking to see if any of his own healing powers can be of use.

His voice is quiet, feeling the pain from the druid as he asks "Does he still live?"

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith curses softly, wishing he had checked if the door could be locked from outside or inside. That something came up so quietly and still has its eyeballs is a bad thing. He hurries after Nimwi, looking for a place to hide.

Male Human Oracle 1

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith smiles and puts a comforting hand on Urasia's shoulder. "Don't worry, Lass. We are all here with you, we'll come out alright."

Turning his attention to Shefton he gives a small nod of his head "This had best be not a trap. If you have been straight with us we'll be back soon and you'll be rewarded for your help. If you haven't been, I can assure you we are quite good at slipping out of sticky situations and have good memories."

Looking back to the others. "I'm not much of a warrior, if one of the more martially skilled wishes to take point I can follow close behind should they need my blessings."

Male Human Oracle 1

Indeed. Hopefully everyone gets better soon.

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith nods his head in agreement with Uraisa towards Lavinia. "Indeed, Miss. We believe he is on Parrot Island and have met with someone who is aware of his specific location and can lead us to him. I believe we are ready to depart, we just felt we should update you on our progress."

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith keeps his eyes carefully on the man, they may have his loyalties now, but its obvious that they shift easily and so he is cautious. "Indeed. I am sure that Lavinia will want to know what we have found out and the manor provides a secure place to plan our next move without any eavesdroppers."

He smiles just a bit at that before going on. "We will ensure you are rewarded for whatever services you provide. Now, let us go, there is much to be done now that we have a direction to point ourselves."

Male Human Oracle 1

I wanted to put up a quick apology. I was going to be traveling from sunday night to monday night, I thought it was going to be short enough that it wouldn't even be noticed since I'd be posting again within 24 hours. However, my flight home got canceled and I was stuck across country without my laptop(due to the perceived shortness of the trip).

I just got back in now and am going to be catching up on posts and putting up my own.

Thanks for your patience.

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith looks to Uraisa with slightly raised brows before he looks back at the man before giving a frank nod. "She does speak truthfully. The little dinosaur does like to eat eyeballs. I think you might be best off giving us what information you have and why you were snooping on us and counting that we will reward you justly if you acted with good intentions."

Male Human Oracle 1

I did try and point him out in my last post, Nimwi. I indicated his table and mentioned him.

Male Human Oracle 1

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 I think luck is trying to make up for the whole map debacle.

As he tells the others of what he an Uraisa found, leaving out the details of the particularly lovely lunch once Lilly and Asfer explain their day, Lerith grows more and more quiet. Eventually his voice drops to a near whisper, trying to be subtle as he indicates one of the other tables. "Seems someone has an interest in us. Could be this Vanthus business or it could be left overs from the ship I suppose. How do you all want to play this?"

Bluff for subtlety 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21

Male Human Oracle 1

You and I are clearly not merchants, Uraisa. Which considering my background is kind of sad, though I apparently know a thing or two about them.

Male Human Oracle 1

My knowledge local and diplomacy are the same. Not sure if you want one in general or one for each district so I'll just make a bunch of rolls below and take whatever you need.

Azure Diplomacy 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Noble Diplomacy 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Merchant Diplomacy 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Azure Local 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Noble Local 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Merchant Local 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Male Human Oracle 1

Sounds good to me too.

Male Human Oracle 1

If we are going to break into pairs, Lerith could go with Uraisa. If she isn't very sociable, I think he has the highest diplomacy in the group and they both get along pretty well. We could cover the Azure district to start with since thats where Lavinia suggested.

Male Human Oracle 1

I just wanted to give a quick apology for being quiet the last days. Sniffles at the beginning of the week turned into a pretty harsh flu and I've spent the last few days hiding in bed pretty much the whole time. Catching up on posts and putting up my own now.

Male Human Oracle 1

As the woman breaks down, Lerith hurries over to her and puts a hand on her shoulder comfortingly though he flashes a worried glance at the others. "Its alright, Mi'lady, take your time. We're here to help."

Male Human Oracle 1

Knowledge Nobility, you will be mine one day.

Lerith walks near Lavinia and Uraisa, chuckling slightly at their excitement over the prospect of shopping. He's not too concerned about danger in the town itself, but while there are certainly others in the group who better qualify as bodyguards he still keeps an eye out for Lavinia as she is his boss and he seems to have picked up some protective instinct for Uraisa since she showed her nervousness after the spider attack.

He frowns at the annoyance on his employers face at the mention of Vanthus. He doesn't know who the man may be, beyond apparently her brother, but the look she gives makes it apparent that his entrance to the vault may be worse news than expected.

He follows after her quickly, waiting to ask any questions until they are out of hearing of the clerk and those on the street.

Male Human Oracle 1

With that roll they are probably maps of Bloodcove.

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith smiles at Lavinia and her offer of payment, nodding his head though his eyes stay on the odd maps. "You are certainly most kind, Mi'lady. I thank you greatly. I can't say that I know the tongue that these are based on, but perhaps I can help in some other way to decipher them?"

I'll take a quick look, if there is anything I can pick out without extensive study. If its going to take more than a few minutes of work I'll just go with the others for now so they aren't all waiting for me and look over the documents when I have time to sit and study as long as needed. I'll roll a knowledge geography below since that seems most pertinent to maps, but if any of my other knowledges might apply feel free to roll for me.

Knowledge Geography: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Male Human Oracle 1

Indeed, I don't have any problem with the decision. I was there comforting Lavinia. If we are stuck behind the wall for a few moments, its not a big deal.

Seeing Lavinia scramble for the entrance and that Uraisa looks to be going to make it safely he holds back with their employer so she isn't locked in alone. "Its alright, Mi'lady. They are still exploring, they will have us out soon enough."

Male Human Oracle 1

Fresh off the rush of the puzzle actually working, it takes Lerith a moment to come back down to the sadness of the situation for Lavinia. He moves with Uraisa to help comfort her, murmuring "Yes, its alright, Mi'lady. We'll find those responsible. Its no different than the vault itself really, the clerk will pass us another clue and we will go from there until it is solved."

DM said that we would have a general idea of the creatures since they are all fairly well known, so I am just going off that.

He looks to Nimwi and considers "From what I know, a Chimera is a weird amalgamation. A beast that shares one body but has the head of a dragon, a lion and a goat. A cyclops is a giant with but one eye. A medusa is a woman with snakes for hair that can turn a man to stone. An ettin is a brute with two heads. A basilisk is sort of a lizard, but it has many legs and can turn a man to stone with a bite. I don't know there are many connections between the beasts. Two can petrify and two are giants."

Male Human Oracle 1

Then assuming that turning right is east for sunrise...

When he touches the pillar and it spins, Lerith will work to move it based on the number of eyes, turning the red arrow first right to the gorilla-like beast(6), then left to tentacle creature(1), then right to the horned demon(2), left around to the two headed dragon(4), and then right back to the horned demon again.

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith nods his head to Uraisa with a smile. "Indeed. If it turns, something will come of it, surely." He grins a bit "Perhaps I wasn't so far off about the room spinning after all?"

He glances to the others and then back to the pillar. "For safeties sake, are any of you knowledgeable in the way of traps or perhaps at least have better eyes than I do? From the Iron Cobra we know that little expense was spared to guard this vault. My excitement can cause me to leap in with both feet sometimes when there is something so interesting, I wouldn't want us to walk blindly into danger."

If/when someone looks for traps and finds none I will help try and turn the pillar(if there is still room left after the stronger folk grab on). If no one feels they can search, I'll still grab on and help. No risk, no reward.

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith scratches his chin as he looks around the room, considering. He gives a small nod towards Uraisa as he speaks "The lass mentioned something when we were talking about the pillars that got me thinking. She referred to the beasts on the page as odd or even 'numbers', it made me wonder if that might be some sort of combination, rather than a pictograph. I was considering the heads of the beasts or something similar until we came here, but its obvious that the eyes have some special meaning or they wouldn't stand out so in gemstone."

He does a quick count as he goes around. "Seems we have numbers one through six and then eight. Then on the paper, we have a chimera, would have 6 eyes on its 3 heads. A cyclops only has one. Medusa seems where it could fall apart, the woman only has two but I have no idea how you could imagine to count the snakes. Ettins have four on their two heads, then as far as I know, basilisks only have two."

He furrows his brow and looks around again "I don't see anything that would represent sunrise or sunset however. I would think that we may need to go in the right direction, like with any lock, but that makes less sense for the walls of a room. And I was thinking the eyes themselves may be a switch, but that wouldn't make much sense if we need to push 'two' twice. The star could be a pointer, since it is set to nothing right now, but for that we'd have to be able to spin the roof or walls. Most interesting indeed."

I hope I didn't jump too much into that, I love puzzles and my character seems like he would be much the same. When I had started savage tide before, we never made it beyond the ship(I knew about the spider because it killed me) so its all new to me, but I hope there is more like this in the adventure. Its hard to have a back and forth in PbP so I wanted to put down all my ideas in the hopes that someone else might click with whatever parts I'm missing.

Male Human Oracle 1

Ha! I had looked up the note just before I made my last post, but somehow reading it again with Uraisa's post may have just given me a minor breakthrough. Are there any sort of symbols on the columns, DM? Also, as Uraisa hinted at, are they movable at all(either to slide or rotate?) I was expecting not because of their size, but that could be important.

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith scratches his chin a bit as he looks around the room, trying to inspect the pillars more closely for anything fairly obvious, trusting those with sharper eyes than his to find any secret doors.

"There are five creatures spoken of on the paper, and 5 central pillars. Do any of you see something that represent the monsters?"

He pauses, having a thought. "Also, it said they face sunset or sunrise. I had thought it may be a combination type lock, turn a dial either left or right from one creature to the next, but perhaps its more intricate than that. We have two additional pillars here on either side, those could represent the directions. Maybe they literally face east and west? I get turned around as soon as I can't see the sky, do any of you have a better sense of direction? Are these pillars to the east and west?"

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith nods his head at Lavinia's words. "It is good that we discovered it when we did. With how difficult it seemed to be to harm the beast, it could have been a real challenge. Simply incapacitating it will leave you a powerful guardian for the vault."

He glances around to the others "Are you all well? Shall we continue on? I don't feel much power left, but I do believe I can bring out a bit more healing before I must rest. We don't know if the vault holds more dangers."

Male Human Oracle 1

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Lerith blinks a bit but nods at Lilly. "It makes sense. If the thing will leave whoever wears the ring alone, perhaps we can make use of it? I'm sure that Asfer's sword arm could make short work of the beast if it won't strike him back. If he gets the ring, we could use the hallway to make sure it can't get to anyone else, and I could be right behind him to heal in case we are wrong."

Going to delay for the moment, if the cobra really hurts someone I'll step in after that, otherwise I'm trying to Lavinia and Lilly get out first.

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith smirks a bit to Lilly, jesting "That was me, not eyeball. If you all think we should fall back, I am with you. I will come back with the last of us to make sure we all get out. If it does sense that familial bond, perhaps she can direct it? Can you order it to stand down, Lavinia?"

Male Human Oracle 1

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Seeing Lavinia take the place he had intended to get to, Lerith frowns a bit, trying to judge just how hurt Lilly is before pressing forward, slipping past Lavinia with a "Pardon me, Mi'lady" to come stand just behind Eyeball where he can reach most of the front line if they need it.

Moving to E5, I know I need to provoke to get there.

Once in place he reaches out and lays a hand on Lilly's shoulder, trying to call on the spirit that follows him to heal her.

Cure Light Wounds 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Male Human Oracle 1

Not 100% sure on where everyone is, DM. Can I get next to Lilly?

Male Human Oracle 1

Interesting, I was ready to back Nimwi up on this on but I went to look to be sure and it appears DM is right and I've been using them incorrectly in my own games. It says they are a whip for proficiency, but never says they are otherwise treated as one anywhere and doesn't mention them having the normal whips extra reach. I suppose it makes sense from a balance perspective to have them lose something in return for the other bonuses they get.

Male Human Oracle 1

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

"Blast, I think its an Iron Cobra. Never actually seen one before. They are built to be pretty resilient, so unless some of you are porting around any adamantine we are going to need to hit it pretty hard to get through its hide or else use what magic we have damage it! I still have a bit of healing in me, but not much that can harm this thing.

I'll post his physical action as soon as I see what the cobra does, so I know if someone is more hurt than Lilly.

Male Human Oracle 1

Order looks fine to me, though it sounds like Uraisa wants to be more in the middle near me.

Seeing the wizard sticking so close to his side, Lerith pauses just before entering the vault, reaching up to give her shoulder a soft squeeze, speaking quietly so as not to embarrass her. "Its alright, lass. You'll be safe by my side. There isn't anything to fear."

Male Human Oracle 1

I don't have any way of picking out traps and I'm not the most sturdy one in the group in case we run into some sort of creature which means I'm probably not the best to be the point man, but Lerith is definitely excited enough about the idea of riddles and unknown treasures that he would want to be near the front.

Male Human Oracle 1

Not sure who is carrying what, but that was part of the deal and it seems a good plan to uphold it if we plan on working for her.

As the group makes its way with Lavinia to the vault, Lerith will bring out the collected pouch of coins and offer it to her. "Here are your ill-lost gains, Mi'lady. With luck and the deal you offer, hopefully we will be seeing them again soon."

He perks up at the talk of her father's interests, much like Lilly did at the mention of gold. "Riddles, you say. This could be fun. I am a man of similar inclination, have no fear, we will have you into the vault at once."

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith smiles a bit towards the wizard as she talks, letting her give her description. "Don't worry, lass, I wasn't going to let the beast get to you. At least not 'til he had got to me first, which may have come far too close to happening."

When Lavinia asks the question, he nods, pulling out the note and ring they had discovered, offering it to her. "The note was rolled up within the ring when we found it. I suspect that it may have some tie to the vault. Does the lock have pictures of creatures anywhere around it that may be involved? I have to admit, I am hoping this isn't some sort of warning about what is inside."

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith nods his head and walks with the others. "And like it or not, as corrupt as Vark may have been it seemed he had the law on his side in this. It may be wrong, but his superiors clearly did not take the lady at her word that she had already paid, so they won't see this as reclaiming property so much as looting a properly impounded vessel. It is fortunate for us that this cities criminal system is... sorely lacking, because even being in the right I feel we would have found ourselves on the wrong side of the law. But what the justice system is missing is often made up for by vigilantism. I suspect that will drop away when the coin flows from, Mi'ladies vault, but until she has established her safety by regaining her place in society through coin, it would be best if she knew we may have prodded at a bit of a hornets nest."

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith gives a nod of thanks to Nimwi when the elf fetches the boat, looking for a sheet of cloth he can wrap up the various collected goods in, bundling them for easier transport.

"Yes, I am sure the lady will be pleased by our results, if not our methods. We should report back to her as quickly as possible."

Male Human Oracle 1

Aye! Though since pirates should probably be able to swim, heading back to Lavinia may be the best for me.

Male Human Oracle 1

Nimwi, was just an OOC comment. When I realized that I had somehow forgotten the skill myself I looked at the group's casters to see if anyone would be able to identify items for us. ICly, other than helping to gather up the goods, Lerith has been more interested in the note that came with the ring than any of the items themselves.

Male Human Oracle 1

Blast again, I was paying so much attention to knowledge skills somehow I overlooked spellcraft. That will change next level. We'll have to let Uraisa handle this one since it doesn't look like the rest of us have it.

Male Human Oracle 1

As for the posting schedule, I am up for keeping whatever anyone else maintains. I tend to go nuts, particularly during the weekdays, when things are quiet, but I am in a few different games for that very reason. If one slows down a bit its alright and I don't sit there and refresh all the time. Its more important that you don't wear yourself out, but if you are enjoying the pace I am all good for it.

As for the loot, I could certainly use one of the light crossbows to give myself better ranged combat options and since there are four of them I doubt they are going to be fought over too much.

I'm pretty easy going about loot, I'd prefer it to go to whoever it is most suited for or is going to get the biggest benefit/most use from it. I don't mind putting loot in a party discretionary fund either for that matter, so if we need something we can check with the others to see if they mind and simply pick it up.

Male Human Oracle 1

Lerith climbs back on deck with the others, giving a bit of an odd look to Lilly at her casual comment about eyeballs dietary habit before nodding his head. "Um, yes, fetching the boat would be wonderful if possible. I am sure I could keep myself from drowning if needed, but in my armor I would flounder pretty badly trying to get back to shore without the dinghy."

Lerith helps gather up the goods they found, taking a moment to try and identify whatever the odd liquids are, detecting magic and focusing on them.

Knowledge:Arcana 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

When Lilly brings out the ring he smiles. "Ha, very good! The lady was seeking to open her father's vault. Perhaps this relates? The wealthy can create overly elaborate goods, the lock may hold images of such creatures. Hopefully this will get her within."

DM, how well known are these creatures? In RL they are obviously pretty famous and we all probably have a good idea what they are. Do we need to make knowledge checks to know the basics of any of them?

Male Human Oracle 1

Also, I know Uraisa is still in pretty bad shape and could use a cure. I've got one more in the bank after that, is anyone else very injured?

Lerith smiles to the girl as he is thanked. "Of course, lass. It was nothing. You covered my back as well, if we all look after each other, we all walk away to tell the tale." He grins a bit and adds "Though if you don't mind, I would prefer not to get quite so close to any insects of that size on your behalf again. They do grow them big in the jungles."

Hearing her proposal, he nods his head "That is a fair idea. Perhaps he knows where this ring is, or at least can give some evidence to what Vark was up to that would help ensure this battle doesn't become a problem for us. First though, let me help stitch you up a bit better. You are on your feet, but I wouldn't want you falling apart on us trying to climb out of here." He flashes a smile and reaches out, touching her shoulder lightly, quietly requesting that spirit that follows him to aid her.

Male Human Oracle 1

Does that more or less take us out of combat, if there is only one thug remaining and she is fleeing?
