We are at 14 days since the GM posted in Discussion and 15 in Gameplay.

I put a lot of time and thought into this character, so I am sad to see the game dying so quickly. I really hope that's not the case...

HP 16/16 NL 0 | AC 15, T 13, FF 13 | Init +2 | Per +5 LLV, DV 60 | Save: F +5, R +5, W +0 (see special) | Burn 0/5

Leera has a melee weapon. That's not holds. And a kineticist gathering power is a flashy, loud affair. There will be many moments where such a thing would be very undesirable. Not to mention being unable to act on any AoOs since you're not threatening unless you have a weapon or Improved Unarmed.

Edit: Oh, and since kinetic blast provokes AoO in threat range, having a back up means of attack isn't a foolish plan.

HP 16/16 NL 0 | AC 15, T 13, FF 13 | Init +2 | Per +5 LLV, DV 60 | Save: F +5, R +5, W +0 (see special) | Burn 0/5

Leera gives Aisling a queer look and then summarily steps back decisively to allow her whatever room she needed. Leera had been perfectly fine with handing over the simple sickle she carried. After all, she didn't need it to defend herself or her fellow orphans.

She was beginning to realize that the situation was not likely to be concluded without some hostility. She glanced at Agana and Fezont wondering if the pair would be able to do what may become necessary. For her part, Leera had resolved ever since that night...yes, she would do whatever she had to in order to let them escape.

Behind her lace cuffs, Leera's mouth set in grim determination, her mind already emptying in order to be filled...with the void.

Leera might have made an eeep!, but in all the commotion, the sound was probably lost. She fearfully looks around at their predicament wondering if she would need to reveal her powers. She sidles up to Aisling, her hands up in front of her face.

"If you really are an assassin...now might be the time to prove it," she whispers. "But probably only if they really mean to hurt us."

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Like Fezont, Leera is unable to see more than the rain and the menacing trees.

"Please, Ren...it's not kind to make such jokes in a place like this," she says super softly...which means Ren—or anyone else—may not have even heard her.

Leera seems lost in her head and barely pays attention to anyone during this next section of travel. The dream last night...it had reminded her so much of what happened to her mother. She was very rattled. She had awoken sweating and unable to return to sleep after the terrible nightmare. Very tired and upset, she found herself jumping at every snap of twig underfoot or sudden sound from the woods heard above the rain.

Leera looks at Fezont sharply when he mentions dreaming of shadowy black figures. She appears to say something, but the sound of the rain drowns out her perpetually soft whisper.

@DM Pain: Should we be expecting the pace of posting in this game to be relatively slow? I only ask in case you are planning for it to move quicker, or if you're waiting for specific cues from us before you post.

Lol, considering the description given about the Kineticist class' awakening being a possibly traumatic event, I consider obtaining level 1 Kineticist is basically like 'this just happened.' Level 2 when the Kineticists defense kicks in is the 'you finally figured out how not to kill yourself with your own power' moment.

Leera's internal monologue is about the fact that we're kids.

There's technically a reason for the minimum age requirements for the classes we are all taking, Aisling, so that's really what my comment is about. While what you wrote in your OOC text is 'mechanically' true, we are still roleplaying children, and children just don't have the life experience our class roles otherwise indicate.

I don't have any problem with Aisling making such claims. I did think it odd you described Aisling more like a ranger than a warrior out to protect knowledge, but that's your prerogative as the archetype name is just a concept not a hard and fast rule. :D

But Leera, in character, is going to think Aisling is just being a boastful tomboy.

I'm pretty sure Agana in on the same page as Leera regarding the explanation of our age v. ability. Our skill and power are entirely derived from instinct and natural talent, but only represent actual life experience in the slightest degree.

Aisling's experience in life may have included being taught early on how to hunt and survive. But that is not Leera's, so her perspective will definitely be skeptical until Aisling can actually demonstrate it.

Leera will still probably give Aisling a hard time about calling herself an "assassin" though. :P

A Lore Warden describing herself as an assassin and a hunter...

I guess there are weirder things.

Leera listens to the exchange between Aisling and Agana with an odd expression. She simply shakes her head when Aisling boasts about being a proficient hunter and "assassin" of all things. Like she's ever had time for any of that while cleaning Professor Togren's laundry.

"I think leaving the inn to search for some unknown creature is pure folly. If you think it's that important, we should tell these dangerous looking adventurers at the bar. They're much more likely to succeed than a group of children like us."

Leera would much rather wait to see if the order Ren placed gets filled. She was very hungry.

Leera turns to eye the small gnomish boy. She raises her hands up, her lace cuffs covering her mouth. Leera speaks to him, saying, "I don't know, but they are much better outfitted for fighting and such then we are. That means they are probably dangerous folk. We definitely shouldn't bother them." She shakes her head.

As usual, Leera's voice is barely audible and many probably have trouble hearing her.

I will try to remind everyone from time to time, but due to her drawback Anxious, Leera rarely speaks loudly or even at normal tone.

When Aisling starts to pull gold out of her pouch, Leera's eyes widen, and she quickly rushes over and tries to push the girl's hand down before it can be seen.

"Are you crazy?" she whispers. "A place like this isn't going to expect to see gold coins. Start with your copper then silver if you must get flashy." She throw an anxious glance at the adventurers and the inn staff worried someone saw and was already plotting to steal the orphans' small purses.

When Ren suddenly starts to order food loudly mirroring the Professor, Leera once again thinks to intervene, but Agana suddenly speaks, and Leera's head swivels toward her in surprise. Now too late to try and stop the cocky boy, the dhampir suddenly wishes Aisling's hunting hadn't been stifled.

Well, maybe we'll get good meals with meat...

Her mouth starts to water a bit at the thought of a bit of venison...thick and bloody. Very bloody.

Since it seems this going to be a lengthy chat, switching to discussion to prevent clutter. :)

He probably knows Ren and hates him a little, in the way that you hate someone who is loud and obnoxious. Buthe also in the way you hate someone you know can kick your ass with anything they have to hand...

I have basically been thinking about it like elementary school. You probably know who everyone is even if you don't have a personal relationship with them. So I suppose reintroducing yourself just to reaffirm it might make sense, but I doubt there is a complete lack of any knowledge unless there are really that many orphans running around. If it's just us...well, we would obviously know one another unless we're only let out of our rooms one at a time. :P

I mean, if you guys want to have a whole introductory session, I guess we can, but since we already have everything about this setting against us, it feels like we should assume camaraderie to make our party cohesion easier which gets tough to roleplay when you have a bunch of loners who have no reason to trust each other otherwise. Given our relationship to Togren is already established to be semi-adversarial (or at least fear based), we probably need to be at least friendly.

I'll concede to the group's feelings though. I'm here to roleplay, so I can do mistrustful and scared just fine. I just think it may be tougher to explain why Leera would stick her neck out for you guys though unless cohesion just gets unexplainably handwaved...which is not something I prefer.

A dedicated scholar, Sarrus Togren...A true friend to orphans everywhere Togren's kindness and generosity is legendary, as he has adopted several orphans purely out of the goodness of his heart. Because sarcasm is difficult to convey through text, I'd like to clarify that that last sentence was entirely untrue, other than the adopting orphans part. The professor's manic obsession with academia leaves little room for kindness and his primary goal of adoption would seem to be access to unpaid housecleaning, butlery, etc.

Unless Aisling and the rest were just adopted yesterday, we've been cleaning house and being slave labor for sometime. Of course, there could just be that many orphans that we may not be super familiar with one another, I suppose.

Pretty sure we already know each other...

Leera looks at the other strangely as they introduce themselves. Have they never met? Then Leera remembers she had been asked to use her night sight to watch the others on occasion. Maybe none of them have met me, either?

Not wanting to seem out of place despite the feeling it being unnecessary, Leera says, "I'm Leera...still just Leera."

As usual, her hands hide her mouth so that her dhampir fangs are hidden from view.

Leera's head swiveled in alarm as something leaped out at Venthrus! She started to raise a hand, and a spark of gravity energy flared to life.

Oh.

It was just his lizard friend. A friend who loved him no matter what.

She quickly dismissed the tiny spark of power before anyone noticed it. It made a small crackle like the snapping of a twig. Hopefully, that's all anyone thought it was.

Leera watched as the blue reptile climbed on Venthrus' shoulder. That must be nice. Leera started to daydream about having a pet. Most animals seemed a tad leery of her, but came around eventually. Pets weren't something usually allowed at the institution, but Venthrus had something special, so the Professor seemed to turn a blind eye. Well, as blind as his eyes ever were. Which was barely ever, in case that wasn't clear.

Leera returned to trudging along. Maybe where they were going will be better than living at the University. Yeah, perhaps this was all a ruse to take the orphans to new homes with loving parents and wonderful brothers and sisters!

Leera let the lie live in her daydream for a time until she tripped on a rock. She was able to catch her balance, but it brought her happy thoughts back to the trail, her aching legs, and sore back.

That's not likely if I know Professor Togren.

Leera sighed.

In defense of your original interpretation, "living" =/= "positive energy" only. A Dhampir is a living creature who responds to positive/negative energies in reverse

Hmm...interesting. Kinetic Healer doesn't explicitly state that it is positive energy based.

With a touch, you can heal a willing living creature of an amount of damage equal to your kinetic blast's damage. Instead of paying the burn cost yourself, you can cause the recipient to take 1 point of burn. If you do so, the recipient takes 1 point of nonlethal damage per Hit Die he possesses, as usual for burn; this damage can't be healed by any means until the recipient takes a full night's rest.

However...

This functions as kinetic healer, except it heals undead (and others healed by negative energy).

The implication is that Kinetic Healer must be positive energy based in contrast. But RAW can be argued here...

How would you like this handled, DM Pain?

Leera Atmos sighed as Professor Togren indicated their path now took them off the main road. She wearily turned her aching feet to keep up with the others. She could see Ren ahead while she walked along quietly near the semi-oblivious Aisling Frost-Wing.

Leera preferred walking near the other girl since people often assumed they were related since their hair and skin were so similar. The fact that they looked nothing alike didn't deter the assumption. Leera's habit of frequently hiding the lower half of her face with her hands or lace cuffs often unintentionally aided the illusion. Unlike Aisling, Leera's white hair was not the snow white of an icy heritage, but something almost more ethereal. Leera's hair seemed to have blue highlights in low light which vanished when exposed to direct rays of the sun or firelight.

Leera liked thinking that the other orphans were her family in fact rather than unfortunates who just happened to live together. It sometimes made her feel everything was going to be alright...

Her dress was dirty. The unbidden thought startled her and irritated her at the same time. The dust of travel seemed to coat everything, her boots, cloak, stockings...well, there was nothing that could be done. The long-sleeved black dress with lace trim was mostly covered by her cloak and the leather armor she'd been given, but her petticoats were definitely soiled with travel. She shifted her simple pack on her shoulder still feeling odd in the protective gear. The L-shaped hand sickle bounced against the side of her leg, but she had gotten used to that and barely noticed it.

She glanced over at where Agana trudged along and felt nervous. The girl's powers were very dangerous to Leera, and Agana always seemed to want to help and heal every scrape the other orphans acquired. Leera just hoped the Agana didn't forget that wouldn't help her.

Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing...

Leera shook her head, no. Don't think like that. Life would get better, surely. It had to.

Right?

Leera sighed.

"You-you want me to go on the expedition, Professor? But-but...I thought no one was supposed to see me...I thought I would be staying here..."

Leera looks stricken and is rather taken aback. She hides her mouth and mumbles from behind the lace spilling out of her cuffs. She doesn't make eye contact with the Professor but looks down and to one side.

No further explanation is offered, and soon Leera is alone with her fellow orphans who have also been voluntold for the expedition.

"I...I hope this goes ok..." Leera looks ready to cry.
