About Landa Mala

Background:

Landa had been an ordinary child. Well not completely, she had always been beautiful; all the boys in her village had wanted to marry her one day, but none the less she lived the simple life of a village girl. But the whims of fate had dealt her a cruel blow. At the age of 8 she had fallen ill and did not rise from her bed for weeks on end, the local priests and healers knew not what could be done as it seemed the girl was in a state of paralysis. Then one day a young priestess of Erastil came to the village who had heard of the girl’s strange affliction. But when she saw the girl and her ills instead of grief and misery the priestess smiled a bright smile. She gifted Landa with a beautiful book, the Parables of Erastil and left without a further word. Landa sadly could not read but studied the book curiously wondering why the woman had been so happy. After a year of studying the beautiful illustrations and learning the symbols the girl had read the book from front to cover understanding the ways of Erastil and that everything had its place in the natural order and that her place for now was here in her bed.
But shortly thereafter a man came to town atop a white steed, the most beautiful Landa had seen. The man was Father Zastoran a high priest of Erastil who claimed to have ridden 2000 miles to gift this steed to a special girl; one blessed by the Elkfather. He told the lame girl to rise and Landa was once again able to stand, while walking was hard she had oddly gained back enough strength to even mount the great white horse.
Landa was overjoyed at the gift but with it came great changes. When riding atop Haver, the name she had given her steed, she felt an odd connection to the beast as if she always knew what he thought and wanted and it appeared as if he felt the same. But other things were strange as well, in her dreams, she saw clear pictures and voices, telling her teaching her about things her young mind could not yet quite grasp, about who she was and who she would be and about the road that she must take. The most frightening change to Landa however was that she was changing, she still appeared a typical girl of eleven years, but there was more. One day when wrestling with her brothers she noticed she was far stronger than any of them and by accident knocked her eldest brother out with a simple toying jab. When she then kneeled by his side crying and apologizing, she felt and odd jaunt, a rush of power which she could not control. Her brother awoke and rose the bleeding on his jaw stopped.
That night Landa dreamt a vivid dream and she again saw the high priest who bade her to come to him. And so the next day the young girl left her village behind atop Haver seeking answers. She did not know why but she knew how to find the priest and he had known she would come. Together they traveled across the land, and Landa learned, the ways of the clergy of the Elkfather. Two years she spent with the father travelling from town to town throughout the northern reaches of Gollarion, spreading the word of the Elk father, blessing the crops and curing the ill, battling those who wished to undoe the harmony of the world or preying on the weak.
One night a dream came to Landa, of her riding alone, into the snow and ice. It was the morning of her thirteenth nameday and apparently Zastoran had known this day would come. In the morning he rose, wished her farewell and rode south on a calling of his own. Landa herself set out north, to where and why, she was still oblivious.

Personality:

Landa while bright and mature for her young age still retains a childish naivety. She is a good natured and generous soul and tends to look out for others before looking after herself. A fact she has found exploited before by less trustworthy souls, a fact that has made her a bit more careful in her dealings with people.
Landa enjoys life but her instruction into the faith of Erastil has taught her a very rigid morale code and strict and traditional values, which to this day she attempts to follow blindly. Her arrival in freedom town has left her rather shocked at the lack of moral and respect that is pervasive around this place and only time can tell how she will adapt to this new situation.

Appearance:

Landa is a spindly young girl in her early teenage years. Her skin is white as milk and she wears her gold blond hair short cropped.
While her overall appearance is that of an attractive young human girl, her facial features with the high cheekbones and elongated jaw are more reminscent of an Elf or perhaps an Angel. The most striking feature however are her eyes which shine with an oddly unnatural dark green.
Landa, who walks slowly and oddly stalky is garbed in heavy winter clothes under which she wears links of heavy chain.
She usually carries a large shield which bears the symbol of Erastil as well as a crude looking Morning Star.
