So... about those decisions...

28/28 hp

Be well, BT.

28/28 hp

Back from the trip. We hiked rim-to-rim at the Grand Canyon. It was hard, it was amazing, it was worth it, and I can't wait to return to do it again.

Will see tomorrow what work holds in store. That's going to impact posting availability - I just hope the vacation was enough to keep me sane over the next couple of weeks.

28/28 hp

At my house we are in the final run-up to our annual fall adventure. This year, we will not have access to wifi for at least four days. In addition, pressure at work related to my anticipated absence and ongoing major project may take me out of the game earlier than that and may keep me off the boards for a while after.

I wanted to post this to all my games while I could to explain that I may go silent for a while. I may get a few more posts in - I'm not sure when radio silence will begin. It could start as early as today - probably late tomorrow - and might run through the 26th if the project goes poorly.

Please don't let my absence stall the game. Bot me as necessary and we will pick up the pieces (or roll up my new character) when I return.

Peace.

Do you recall the name of the feat you mentioned earlier that uses Charisma as the modifier to certain saves?

Just a quick note: I got my hands on the Advanced Class Guide last night. As of this morning, I am ready to hear any proposals for rebuilds people might want to make to take advantage of the new material.

I don't know if I have anything significant as a result of the new material yet, but I found how to be a swashbuckler with a wakizashi. The Slashing Grace feat appears to be just what the doctor ordered.

The only rebuild that is tempting to me at the moment is to drop the TWF in favor of Dodge since TWF is pretty much never going to be useful for a swashbuckler.

Let's see - Weapon Focus (Wakizashi) for my fourth-level bonus feat, Slashing Grace at fifth level, and I'm using my favored weapon for Swashbuckler Weapon Training. +1 to hit and damage and Improved Critical?

What do you think about swapping out TWF? Any major holes in my plan, here?

28/28 hp

"Little one, I am sorry I struck you, but you surprised us. We would entertain a truce - I would rather ask questions than spar with one so quick as you."

28/28 hp

Yeah, I was sure the crit did not confirm.

Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 3 = 11 with precise strike

Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 79

"It's a tiny elfin woman!" He is still acting on instinct at the creature's sudden rush and as it moves past, he tries to hit it with his backswing.

Given time, he might second-guess attacking something he can barely see...

28/28 hp

I believe I have been walking with Whispering Shrike in hand.

Lamsfel reacts at the quickly-closing creature without thinking about friend or foe, striking out with the enchanted wakizashi.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 3 = 7 includes precise strike

Confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Crit damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

28/28 hp

Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

28/28 hp

Lamsfel directs a concerned look at the others, What is this?

28/28 hp

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

The elf squints, "Glad you're here, Gan. I'm not seeing it."

28/28 hp

Lamsfel tilts his head quizzically, motioning for quiet. Whispering, "I can't put my finger on it, but... there is something. I don't know if it is someONE, though."

If the others wish to examine the single door, Lamsfel will remain here and continue to listen.

28/28 hp

:(

Mine has been in pending status since they started processing. That would be, what, Wednesday? Nothing for me yet.

Any significant changes to the swashbuckler at my level?

28/28 hp

I believe, given a choice, we always take the double doors.

Lamsfel moves cautiously across the room, unsure of what to expect, and listens at the far doors.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

28/28 hp

I knew he was going to say that. It is fine by me.

28/28 hp

"I hope you are correct. But this castle has attracted a variety of monsters over the years. I suspect it holds some surprises yet."

28/28 hp

"Whatever lies below, I am loathe to possibly leave enemies at our backs. Let us continue up here."

28/28 hp

Blindly accepting free xp laying on the floor is just my style. Um, how many xp are required for fourth level?

28/28 hp

Waaaaayyyyy behind you! Ahem...

Lamsfel follows the magus, swords in hand.

28/28 hp

"Let us retreat to one of the other doors we have passed."

Descend in the ballroom and try the exits there, perhaps?

28/28 hp

"Lair for the ogre witch's pet bat, perhaps?"

Still not certain what they were looking for, Lamsfel resolves to look everywhere he can for a clue. Even if he has to hold his breath.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

But it is hard to see in the gloom as the oxygen-deprived elf begins to see flashes of light behind his eyes and realizes he is about to pass out. He rushes back out of the room. ;-P

28/28 hp

"It can probably fly. If we have to engage in melee with it up here, someone's liable to fall off. Let's wait until we are on solid ground again."

28/28 hp

Lamsfel points out the waterbug. "If we want to investigate the garden, we will have to watch out for that thing. I doubt it got to that size by nibbling on the water plants."

28/28 hp

Lamsfel takes a moment to study the view when he steps into the bridge behind Tybus.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

28/28 hp

OK, so we are on a ten-foot-wide balcony above a ballroom and there is another set of double doors on the far side of the balcony, yes?

Lamsfel holds a finger to his lips and bids the group to listen for a moment before proceeding.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Bah, cannot even provide aid with that roll!

28/28 hp

Yup, Cal says there is important stuff behind double doors.

28/28 hp

"Aye, let us continue on our foul errand an come back to show the goddess the respect she deserves when aren't liable to get killed doing so."

He does not totally sound like he buys the argument, but he picks up the gore-covered longsword and wipes it off as best he can with whatever he can find, not looking at the others until he is ready to leave. "It will fetch a good price down the line. Once we get Ameiko cured."

28/28 hp

Um, she was badly outnumbered and did not think she could stand up against our combined might. Yeah, that's it!

28/28 hp

The wand is not a bad backup for you if pressed into melee. I don't think Lamsfel wants anything from here.

28/28 hp

Lamsfel nods, brows knitted as he looks around. Perhaps we can get the others into town with the wagons once cleanup is done and Ameiko is well again. The whole crew could make lighter work of it. He says nothing, however.

Are we well and able to proceed, then?

28/28 hp

Lamsfel is caught looking the wrong direction and whirls at the sound of the bowstring and explosion, just in time to see the sailor end the threat. Again.

"My friend, I am glad you are on the same side. Well struck."

With a distasteful look at the room, he adds, "I suppose it falls to me to swab the decks of the captured vessel, eh, captain?"

Perception to search the room: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

28/28 hp

"Everyone quiet!" Aid another for Perception?

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

He strikes out at the place where she was last visible.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Miss Chance, if targeted right, 1 - 50 misses: 1d100 ⇒ 8
Damage as if: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

28/28 hp

Are you attacking this round? Nothing can save my attack, maybe you can do some good. Awesome roll, Tristan!

28/28 hp

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 No dice.

Lamsfel moves in cautiously, circling the dire corby to the right so another can move up and flank the horrid creature.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 3 = 9

28/28 hp

"Tybus!"

Lamsfel leaps forward, standing over the stricken sailor, and attacks the creature that felled him.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 3 = 7 Including precise strike damage

Bah!

28/28 hp

Bah, thought it was a cone effect, not a burst, despite the name.

28/28 hp

Fort DC 14: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Lamsfel reels from the sounds, unable to get his bearings for a moment.

Did the bat at least have to save, also?

28/28 hp

Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

28/28 hp

In a low voice, "Take your pick. Neither door is divulging secrets without an opening, it would seem."

28/28 hp

Shrugging his shoulders, he shakes his head and moves over to the other double doors to listen.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

28/28 hp

I know my posting has not been terribly prolific lately, but it will probably be even more so this week while we take a small trip. Feel free to bot Lamsfel as necessary.

28/28 hp

Lamsfel moves to listen at the southern double doors.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

28/28 hp

Lamsfel nods, moving to a door with the Elven cleric, ready to defend him as each 'closet' is checked.

28/28 hp

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Looking in the second quarters, Lamsfel pauses, "One moment..." Dagger in hand, he moves over to one of the beds and points at a small pile of mortar against the wall. Following the wall upward with his dagger, he comes to a brick that shifts when pressed.

Using the dagger, he teases the brick out to reveal a cache of silverware. "Might be valuable. Or perhaps we can return it to the rightful owners of the castle, if any remain alive." Wrapping them up in a cloth, he tucks them into his pack and replaces the brick.

Looking around the room, he shakes his head, "Stealing from their employer. Didn't do them much good. I'm ready - where to?"

28/28 hp

I'm glad Gan seems to know where we are. When I can open the map, I don't know our current position, so...

28/28 hp

Quietly, "Thank you, Callomeleth. It may not comfort the child, but it will surely comfort me." He turns to walk out of the room and look around for their next area to explore.

28/28 hp

"'tis a sad fate for anyone. Do you think his art told of what happened when the castle was taken? Wait - was that his spirit we just fought? Is it the sort of unquiet spirit that comes back if it's not put to rest? They do that, right?"

28/28 hp

Adrenalin spent, the elf's weary shoulders droop. "Aye. Nothing a good night's rest won't fix, i think. It is like it stole the energy from my limbs. What do you see with your magesight?"

Realizing the effect is actually only temporary.

28/28 hp

Fighting his suddenly-heavy limbs, Lamsfel attacks again.

Precise Strike Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 - 1 = 20 penalty for fatique
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 3 - 1 = 10 precise strike and penalty for fatigue
