Kyle approaches the officer but is looking towards the scene wide-eyed. "Oh wow. That...that is bad. Excuse me officer. I'm a student at Yorktown U. Kind of still undecided on major. Thought about doing forensics so my counselor said to try doing some research, maybe talk with a real forensics expert. I'm more of a hands on type learner and saw this in the news and thought I'd drop by. See what a crime scene looks like. Kinda having second thought," he says looking wearily at the blood. "You...mind if I ask what happened?" He pulls out his phone and opens a notes application and takes notes if the officer feels talkative.

Kyle takes a deep breath and goes rigid after the spell is released. There was no need since he could still breath when paralyzed but he just felt he needed to do it. After a few deep breaths he relaxes. "A&~&!%!. A+~##*@ five times. That's what I would use to describe him. Seriously, first time we meet and he zap me with a Tazer spell. What a dick." When he's asked for a better description he continues. "I don't know. He was wearing a sky mask and a jacket. Couldn't see anything meaningful. Disguised his voice too. He said something about an effigy and it was no concern of ours. He also said 'we' so all in all, very concerning."

"Right, cause I'm going to be able to sleep tonight," Kyle says. Despite his excitement, he does get some sleep but not a lot. His last thought being Joe? Really?

In the morning, he gets Edgard's message and throws together a bunch of random things he thought he'd need for hiking. He'd hiked before but never gotten serious about it. He then hopes in his beat up car and hauls ass to Joe's. When he gets there, he is surprised by the group of people there. Even Silver. All he can do is point and cry "I knew it."

At the crime scene though, he feels a little out of place. He piddles around looking here and there, not really expecting to see anything of significance.

"Oh. One of those double edge sword things?" Kyle's enthusiasm deflates a little at Edgard's melancholy. He had magic powers yet didn't seem as excited about it as Kyle was. Was it really that bad? But the word zombie worked on Kyle like treat did for a dog. His excitement returned, previous sadness all but forgotten. "Hell's yeah. Let me get my keys. Where are we going?"

Given the description I think Kyle was supposed to levitate which would make for a far more effective show.

"Whoa. What?" Kyle goes completely rigid for a moment as he rises off the ground then flails futilely, only managing to smack his hand on his metal bed. The hit sends him into a quick spin about the time the spell stops. He is lucky to be back all the way around in time to land on his feet. For a long moment he is quiet, standing there with his hands out for balance. When he finally speaks, it is in an angry whisper. "The f$$~? Don't ever do that again without telling me first." Then after a pause. "Also you's a dick. Why didn't you tell me? This is amazing. You can do magic. Real Magic," he says, barely remembering to keep his voice down. His whole body was tense with excitement. "What else can you do?"

"Already?" Kyle echo's. Did the Tin Man deal with an undead recently? How did Edgard know? These questions and more lasted until he mentioned the seance. Kyle's eyes bug out. He looked down at the ring and back up to Edgard then down at the ring again. Come to think of it, he hadn't seen that ring before the seance. "Get the f&%+ out. Are you messin with me? This s+!$'s real?" He says a little too loudly as he backs away a few steps. "This s&$@'s real?" he asks more quietly.

The college I went to you got a roommate unless you became an RA. But it could be a suite. Two small rooms for sleeping with a central living space. That could give some privacy.

Kyle opens the door and smiles. "Finally. Tin Man's latest is about zombies." Edgard can tell that part of the reason he said that was for the benefit of the other guys in the room. They did not even look up from their game. Rocket-powered cars playing soccer it looked like. The two head for Kyle's room. "So what's up?" comes the loaded question.

He watches her leave, head cocked to the side in confusion. That was a little cryptic at the end. A nose from the right startles him out of his revelry. He slams the hood and hops in the car. He drives at a more sedate pace back to the city. At a stop sign he pulls out his phone. No messages from Edgard still. He shoots him one.

Sooo...? it says simply.

When he gets back to his apartment, he hopes online to check the Tin Man's Blog and the local news.

"A what now? And you're still walking through the forest?" This was news. He hadn't heard or read about a hiker. Was that on the blog? Did he miss that one? He looked back and forth along the road and up into the trees expecting something to attack. When it did not, he looked back to the girl. "Ah, no. I did not thankfully. Just the skunk. Do you want me to walk you back? Doubt I'll be much help against whatever killed the hiker but I might buy you time to run. Not that I am expecting an attack or anything. Geez now I am getting paranoid. Not helping right?"

Kyle starred as she looked at his car. Something about a woman who was good with cars was always attractive to men. And he in particular liked red hair over any other color so he was momentarily distracted. But 16 will get you 20 so he drove certain thoughts away with some real effort. "Wow. I have been here a year but this is by far the most Canadian thing that has ever happened. I break down outside of town and someone wanders out of the forest to ask if I need help. I love this town. But isn't hiking even more dangerous than walking? Your home is close right?"

Kyle takes a few breaths to calm himself. He looks in the rear-view mirror to see the skunk waddle off like his life hadn't just been in mortal danger. He flips the stupid animal the bird and gets out. Then he does what every man when their car breaks down. He opens the hood and stares at the engine. It didn't do any good. He knew nothing about cars except how to change the oil and rotate the tires. But he felt he must make an attempt. He looks up at the person that called out and does a double take. Someone just walked out of the woods and asked if he was okay. F@~*ing Canada. He turns back to the engine.

"Yeah. Do you know anything about cars or hunting? Cause if you can't fix it I got a hit I want to put on little striped a!#+!$% a few yards back."

On vacation Monday. Didn;t think I would miss much. I was wrong.

"Not the smell!" Instead of calmly going around the skunk, Kyle yanks it to the side as panic over the smell overrides his sensibilities.

Both of those sound like appropriate situations a Mundane might wander into. I shall let the DM decide what happens. Let's see where another Oops! takes me.

After trying, and failing, to make any real progress on studying, Kyle decides he needs some fresh air. He hoped in his old Chevelle and went for a ride. It wasn't pretty to look at and the AC didn't work but it ran and got him from point A to B.

I am having a hard time coming up with a way to get involved. I think I missed my moment to Oops! into the others. Also worried that no one seems to have wondered what happened to me.

"Your right, it doesn't," Kyle says more to himself. "I'm sorry for your loss and, you know, anything I said to upset you more. Take care." Kyle let her hang up and stared at the phone for a while longer. She'd knew him better than most and if she said it was out of character he believed it. He'd seen enough movies to know sometimes people did strange things. But this was real life. A number of mundane reasons could have caused such a tragedy. A series of unfortunate events. The thought that this was different noodled around in the back of his mind as Kyle returned to real life. There was a quiz on Monday he should really study for and a number of other things. But he kept his phone close at hand. He wasn't banking on Edgard to call but it might happen.

No one gets lost in thought that long. And what was that thing I saw? The worry on his face is easy to read but he voices none of his concerns. "Sure," he says stepping out of the way. He watches Edgard go then crosses the street, returning to his friends. He deflects any questions about Edgard and gets back on topic of Andrew Campbell with the rest of them. When they get back to the dorms he he looks up Andrew's Facebook page (he was friends with most of the students so it wan't hard to find). Relationship Status: In a Relationship. If he wanted to know what happened then Heather was the one to ask. He'd offer his condolences first and not push to far but, drowning? It was too cold to go swimming. What really happened?

Not sure if this is investigate the mystery or manipulate someone (namely the girlfriend who might know more). The former is only a 6 which is why I hope it isn't that.

"Dude. You've been standing there with blank look on your face for," he looks at his watch, "three minutes. You okay?" Then he lowers his voice and leans in. "Are you on something?" He leans back and holds up his hands in defense. "Not judging. Just, you know, concerned. You've been, uh, distant recently, ever since that seance. Was that a cover for something else? Is there a drug called Seance now? Cause that's just silly."

Kyle felt something bump against his leg and reflexively apologies. He turns in the direction he thought the bystander would be but sees no one. Well that wasn't completely true. Out of the corner of his eye he saw something. Something his mind didn't immediately register. He does a couple double takes, looking around the spot he thought he saw it, but it did not enter his vision again. "Okay."

"Aw man. That's terrible. Isn't there also a game tomorrow." Kyle was out with friends and had stopped to get some frozen maple syrup, it was pretty good actually, when one of the group popped the bad news after looking at his phone. Immediately he starts asking for details. Then he sees Edgard walking on the other side of the street. He bids the others farewell and walks over. He notices that his friend seems to have zoned out completely in the middle of the sidewalk. He waves his hand in front of Edgard's face. "Hey man. You there?"

Maybe not right now but want to use Oops! to stumble upon something important.

That will work. So full story is, he finds himself part of a study abroad program under mysterious circumstances. Maybe a supernatural circumstance. Maybe just forgot. But its fine cause the place is nice and the people nicer. Edgard is one of his first friends and they find they have similar interest in the supernatural. They sometimes read Eugene's blog and other rumor sites, not realizing how accurate his is. Edgard takes it a little more seriously which is why he goes to the seance and Kyle doesn't. After that, they still hang out but less often and Edgard seems more distant. Kyle isn't sure why but he isn't going to pry.

Even though he doesn't do the seance, he does visit the odd ball psychic for a laugh. He isn't laughing at the end. He says some things that really get him thinking. There are some subtle hints that things aren't what they seem, especially around Edgard and Silver. Rumors had surrounded the old black man for a while and the story on Tin Man's website corroborated. Kyle prods him from time to time but isn't aggressive or bothersome. But now both him and Edgard on on Bulwark's radar, especially after Edgard's failed attempt to help.

As a side note, the TV show Supernatural is where his interest in real world supernatural stuff came from. He is also a big fan of martial arts movies, which is why he has a nun-chucks and +1 Tough.

Edgard Falk - I wouldn't say before college. Kyle is an American study abroad student. How long ago would you put the spooky event? I was hoping months to maybe a year.

So Kyle hasn't been in the area very long and I want to keep exposure to the supernatural to a minimum. Maybe there is a sense of something weird going on but I'd rather the first mystery be his first real jump into the deep end.

Edgard Falk- Good Friends - He's the only one in the group he knows personally yet. Weather before or after the spooky event is up to you.

Eugene Caldwell - Blog - This flows into Eugene's backstory. There is a small cult following at the school on Eugene's blog. Kyle doesn't take it seriously but may be what he and Edgard initially bond over.

Maxwell Silver - Suspicious - I am imagining Silver keeping his job at the school as a janitor as a cover. Old black man sweeping the floors is pretty unassuming. But rumors abound about the witch he stopped. Bulwark covered it up but people still talk. Kyle sound a story on Eugene's blog that sounds suspiciously like the same event, adding credibility. Now he goes out of his way to get the old man to talk. "How was your weekend Mr. Silver? Not too crazy right?"

Joe Arden - Also suspicious - Joe runs a psychic shop. No one takes that seriously. Kyle visits with some friends that want to poke fun at the palm reader. They all get a laugh but Joe says some weird stuff that rattles him.

If we have to be more closely connected I can revise.
