Kyle grumbles as he stands, "Never seen a group of people so excited to get killed." then in a louder voice he adds, "Fine I'm ready, let's go." So what is our plan exactly? We're going to the warehouse first, and I'll scout around?

Kyle rolls his eyes at Lucky's "moving" speech, but shakes his head ruefully, "Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you. Sometimes the crazy you know, is better than the crazy you don't. As for end goals, I'm just trying to get away with no one coming after me, and my skin intact. Because of last night these Pikes want some of my hide, I'm all for making them see the error of their ways, if I can help out Talus and his people, well, so much the better, but mind you that's not my goal..." there is an awkward silence as he notices the disbelieving looks.

I wanted to clarify my playing style here rather than take up more IC thread time: I generally don't roll against PC's. I'll post if my character is lying or being sneaky, and if you think your character is in a position to know, or recognize that, play it that way. I trust everyone to play their character straight and not over do it. If you want to ensure there are no hard feeling, you can always explain why you think your character would know to alleviate any tensions. Now if others would have a problem with that, or think I should roll I'm willing to adapt, I just think it makes it a better game if we all trust each other... as players if not IC :P

Malcom et All: I'll leave it up to you, I generally don't roll vs PC's I'll tell you what is real, and if you think your character would pick up on it role-play it that way, if you think your character would be oblivious play it that way. I'll make a post in the discussion thread to better explain

"The kind that keeps me alive, and makes the bad guys dead." he says with an impish grin, but doesn't elaborate, before switching his attention to Malcom. "You know, Malcom, right? You know Malcom, taking out the Pikes, may not make anything safer. My mother was a nature lover, one of her favorite sayings was 'Nature abhors a vacuum'. Take out this Yale, and you may make things worse. Somebody is going to take up that territory. You're not really going to be solving any problems, just creating different ones." Observant/Sense Motive: If your character is particularly observant of speech patters, and is pretty good at sense motive, you'd know that Kyle is lying about his mother, and he never includes himself in the group. He always says "if you" do this or that, where most would say "if we" do this or that.

Under his breath with a roll of his eyes, he adds "That makes one of us" Malcom Eviscerator wrote: Kyle, you look the type who could handle something along those lines. That is, if your still with us... Kyle sat through most of the conversation leaning back in his chair feet outstretched arms folded across his chest, chin resting on his chest. If you didn't know better you'd almost think he was pouting, but grown men don't do that. At the mention of his name, he looks up with his eyes, chin still resting on his chest, with an expression that looked petulant, if it were on a little girl of course. He sits that way for a long second, before a smile playes across his lips, and he raises his head, "Sure, fine, sure, I'll scout them out." I don't need any extra complications in my life. I'll go out on my own to "scout", and just disappear. Let 'em think I was caught, killed or whatever.

"Whoa, let's not get ahead of ourselves here" Kyle begins, he looks around the room and when Valyana sees him looking he gives her a pleasent smile. When she is far enough away, he lowers his voice, and continues, "I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't our host any better than I know any of you. For all I know, he's setting us up. I'm not saying the Pikes aren't evil bastards, but how do we know this guy is much better? There doesn't seem to be a lot of shining beacons of purity in this town, and you think we stumbled on the one person who is? He also made sure we all got involved, so we'd all have marks on our heads. OOC: Since I'm still new to the site, I wanted to explain Kyle's actions so people don't assume I'm trying to break the group up, or cause strife: In Kyle's recent history, he thinks he was betrayed by a very close friend (I say thinks, because whether he was or wasn't is up to the GM), so he's extremely leary to trust anyone at face value. As a player, I understand this is a social game, and won't let the characters distrust cause undue conflict.

Kyle comes donw the stairs from his room looking much like he did the night before. His hood is thrown back showing off his youthful appearance and haunted eyes. He takes an apple from a bowl and crunches into it loudly, and speaks through a mouthful "So, what's on the agenda for today?"

Kyle heads to a room without a word. He slides the bed against the door to bar it, checks the window to ensure an escape route, then takes the rough spun blanket off the bed and lays it out on the floor. He sets his pack up as a pillow before removing his armor. He hides his 4 new daggers underneith his make-shift pillow after checking the sharpness of the edges. He checks his short swords in the same manner and puts one on the floor next to his left hand, and the other he holds on to in his right as he lays on his back and drifts off to sleep.

Guard Shack: "That's probably a pretty good comparison. I don't think we're much of a 'gang' though, we're not looking to muscle in or take a piece... At least I don't we are." Kyle traied off at the end, the last sentence barely perceptible, and goes quiet as he walks back to the inn. Could the barkeep be minipulating us? It wouldn't have been hard to stage that confrontation, then encourage us to get involved, so we have no choice.

Kyle sits there for a long moment in the silence that follows the innkeeper's story. He finally sighs and shakes his head, "Well, it doesn't appear that we have much of a choice. We either go get them, or we wait for them to come get us. I'd much rather it be on our terms." Kyle's calm demeanor as he watches the proceedings, give no indication of his internal turmoil. Well this got interesting quick. Went from 3 on 1, all the way to 3 on 5. While I don't like their attitude, by the gods the wench is a demon... Then again, some say the same about the Drow, and yet I would not be living if not for a Drow... Bah I don't need to get involved, the others have it, besides there is no profit, and much to lose if I am recognized.

When the horned woman revealed herself, Kyle almost jumped out of his seat and drew steel. Seeing no one else having an overt problem with it, he sat back down. Reaching into his cloak he pulls out a long stemmed pipe and a bag of tobacco. He fills his pipe, and lights it with a match, before meticulously cleaning up and putting everything in its precise location. He leans back in his chair, feet on the table and pretends he isn't watching the Demon-girl very closely.

Hey all, sorry I'm late to the party, I've finished my background, I just need to polish it some. There are plenty of opportunites for other PC's to be included
Background:
Kyle was born on the streets of ______. Even from a young age he was fiercely independent, and didn't want to follow the rules of a gang or guild, so avoided them.
As he grew older, and he got more skillful, it became harder to be on his own. The guilds who were offering him membership before, started to make demands. Just when things were getting sticky and Kyle was afraid he was going to be forced into a guild, he met a Half-Elf named Kara. Kyle was trapped in what he thought was a dead end alley with thugs coming after him. His back was against the wall, when suddenly the wall gave away a Kyle was sliding down a ramp and landed in a heap of old rags with a the grubby face of a half-elf smiling over him. That was his introduction to Kara. The two were inseparable after that. Adding Kara's abilites to Kyle's allowed them to pull off bigger and bigger jobs. The two were jumping along the rooftops when they heard a commotion. Peering over the side they saw some particularly nasty thugs from a guild Kyle and Kara had learned to hate about to kill someone in a finely made cloak. Always willing to make trouble for this guild, they stepped in and drove the thugs off. Laughing at thugs running down the alley, they checked on the would-be victim. Pulling back the cloak they were staring into the lavender eyes of a Drow Elf. The Drow was near death already and Kara wanted to leave it to die, but Kyle disagreed. He brought the Drow back to their hideout and nursed it back to health, but it would never walk without a limp again. Kyle offered the Drow membership to their rag-tag group, against the protests of Kara. The Drow realized that in his crippled state it was more than a match for the soft city dwellers but wouldn't survive a day in the Underdark (?), and not having anywhere else to turn, he agreed. The drow began training Kyle and to a lesser extent Kara, who hated being in the same room with the "creature". The three started to make a name for themselves as "Problem Solvers" although Kyle was the only visible one. They kept the drow and Kara's abilites a secret. Kara was the "Face" of the group, she got the jobs and "aquired" the needed materials Kyle was the arm he did most of the work, and the Drow was the brain, he figured out the logistics and helped Kyle. They became quite a force to be recond with in the city. Kyle's repuation grew, and they started to aquire contacts and "friends" on the streets. It was becoming quite a lucrative enterprise. Kara came to Kyle one night with information about a prospective job. She said it would solve all their problems and they should cut the Drow out, do the job and leave the city forever. Kyle laughed her off, and told her he couldn't do that, they were a team. She was insistent but in the end Kyle got his way, much to Kara's disappointment. The night of the job, Kara came to Kyle one more time, and asked if he would just leave the city with her and never look back. He asked her what was wrong, but she just laughed, told him that nothing was wrong. and went off to do her part. Everything went off without a hitch. Kyle had the object they were to retrieve, and he met the Drow at the appointed time in the alley where Kyle first met Kara. They were waiting for Kara to finish her part and meet them, when things took a turn for the worse. Guards wearing the standard of the house they got the object from poured into the alley. Knowing it was hopeless, the Drow committed one noble act of his life, he pushed Kyle down the secret ramp and barred it determined to return the favor and save Kyle's life. Knowing there was no way to get back to the alley in time, and not wanting his friend to have died in vain, Kyle ran. He stashed the object, and went into hiding. Days passed and the heat hadn't cooled down at all. If anything it was more intense. All of his contacts, and street "friends" where now his enemies. The city guard and most of the guilds in the city were looking for what he had taken. He couldn't find Kara, but had to assume the worst. It would be best to get out of the city for awhile. He came across the town of Redwall, and figured he could lay low for awhile. If someone wanted to be part of my "gang" and we escaped together, maybe somone was a contact that my character went to for help and caught heat for it, so we escaped together. The only thing that has to stay the same in my story is the Half-Elf, and the Drow. Other than that, I'm free to work others in if they want to be included. DM-Salsa: (love that name by the way): Speaking of the Drow, are you really dead set against Ninja? Here's why I think it's important, and maybe we can come up with another way to do the same thing:
I want Kyle to have distiguishing abilites. People that don't know Drow would be like "Wow, how'd he learn to do that?" and people that do know Drow would be like "Hey, wait a minute, only those evil drow do that!" The other thing I like about the Ninja, is that it can still fill the Rogue niche I think the Ninja abilites fit very well into the "Drow Magic Training" part of the concept. If you are dead set against Ninja, other ways that might accomplish the same thing are: * A unique fighting style. Maybe like the Dervish Dance feat, or Andori-Sword Master.
It's hard to tell when the man sitting at the table in the back corner got there. You looked once and no one was there, you look again and a man was tipping back in his chair with his feet crossed on the table blowing the occasional smoke ring with a long thin pipe, hands resting easily on his stomach, giving all appearances of relaxed indifference. Only those who's senses were sharpened by a life time of dancing with death using blade or spell could pierce the illusion. It was hard to say what the tell was, maybe the eyes that seemed to see everything while they looked at nothing, or the way the hands laid on the stomach twitched towards the sheath at his side whenever the door opened. Whatever it was, you could tell this man was coiled and ready for trouble. |
