Sorry about the shameless plug, but to commemorate the last issue of Dungeon, I'm selling the original art from that issue's index. This 8.5 x 12" ink illo features an All-Star Dungeon group shot including:

Duke Chupo
Vanthus Vanderboren
Balabar Smenk
Eli Tomorast
Tyralandi Scrimm
Virgil, the sea gull
Downer Tarantula and the Ulolok
Galeena from Mt. Zogon

... And, it's signed by me and most of the Paizo editorial staff! Bid early and often.

Could someone please point me to the stats for Draconians? I feel like I've looked in all the monster books.

How awesome would a master index be?

Me! Kyle Hunter. Last year I did all the cartoon avatars for the phone and website; a couple of the wallpapers too. Erik Mona just got a new phone, and I got to check them out in use for the first time.

Sorry to toot my own horn, but it was a pretty big gig, and the images are otherwise anonymous. I'm always curious how other illustrators/cartographers supplement their income in the real world.

My party's cleric is an advocate of mental clarity, and took Mind and Healing as his domains. He's all about counselling and arbitration--lots of diplomacy. I'd like the church to be allied with Pelor in SCAP. I'm stuck however, on the god. Do any human/demi-human gods have Mind and Healing as domains? Suggestions?

Well, I know these things happen, and James Jacobs was upstanding enough to alert me to the error. But I actually did the maps and handouts for the Challenge of Champions, not the inimitable Mr. Lazzareti.

Dangit!

I seem to recall a piece of equipment, goggles or lenses, that enabled drow to ignore their daylight sensitivity. I don't remember if it was magical or not. It wasn't in the Underdark book. Did I dream this, or has it been statted up?

I was going to put this in the TV section, but it's just sooo very D&D. And I never read that section, so I assume no one else does.

Korgoth of Barbaria on Adult Swim is so freaking awesome I don't even want to do Downer anymore. Watch it now! It is Frazetta-tastic. It cuts to everything truly cool, violent, satanic, hilarious, 1970s, and MACHO about ol' D&D.

The DMG states donning the Monk's Belt, if not a monk, ". . . grants the AC and unarmed damage of a 5th-level monk. This AC bonus functions just like the monk's AC bonus." Is this just the +1, or does the wearer also get their WIS bonus added to their AC, as a monk would?

For that matter, what kind of bonus is the monk's bonus to AC?

I'm working on a Downer related project, and I need a little research help. Can anyone point me to some potent, non-evil, (preferably good,) creatures that can deal negative levels, or heavy-duty ability damage? I don't tend to play magic users. Are there many high level spells that would give a PC teh ability to do the same? To cut right to it, how can you have multiple levels permenantly drained? Thanks.

Howdy. I need a little help. Erik Mona and I were talking about upcoming Downer stuff recently, and rilmani came up. According to EM, they looked quite a bit different in the Planscape books. Can anyone provide a detailed description of the Auramach illos, or better yet, post a pic? Muchas gracias.

Erik lives right down the street, and has a pretty exhaustive library, but he won't be up for about three more hours.

I got a couple of nice, supportive e-mails this week, and thought I'd share the response to one of them as it would be of general interest to any Downer fans out there:

"Thanks for the kind words. I'm currently working on #33, like right this second. Who do you like? Any questions? I know it can be hard to follow. I kinda write it for Erik and the editors, so at least I know they've seen all of them consecutively.

1.) Is there any plans of making Downer into a single volume or volumes that could be purchased?

Yeah, I've been talking to some people. I got a really positive response at Comiccon, but things move really slowly. This year has been largely about securing freelance work. Strangely, there is precious little overlap between gamers and comic fans. I wouldn't think that would be the case, but evidence and marketing info sure seem to point that way. Sean was kind enough to remix and deliver a big batch of the old digital files. I couldn't get Downer done without Sean's patience and excellent lettering. Perhaps over the holidays I will get all the back issues up on the website. I've been a busy boy lately. And web design is tedious as hell.

2.) Are there any plans to release D&D stats for the cast of the Downer comic? (im sure you've been asked before.)

Let me be coy. This way lies madness. I started statting Downer out, and stalled out when it came to trying to legitimately build his wings and weird epaulet as magic items that he could buy at his level's GP limit. It is handy to keep rack of this stuff so at least I have a sense of what could legitimately kick Downer's butt. Very roughly:
Downer: Fighter 5/ Rogue 4
Taggit: Rogue 8
Astrid: Sorcerer 7
Loops: Bard 6

Perhaps Erik will commission a Critical Threat. On the other hand, I already owe him a couple of articles. What's coming up? Neogi, Slavers, Crusaders, and death death DEATH"

Also, I'll goose y'all when I get it posted, but there will be some original Downer art going up for auction on the Ebay this week. What better holiday way to say " I want Kyle to be able to afford nice presents for his friends." Merry Xmas and be sure to watch Colbert Report.

I vaguely recall orange dragons (and maybe even purple dragons?) in a way-old issue of Dragon. Can anyone verify this with an issue number? Or were they in something else?

Sez Sean Glenn: "Kyle, what are you? Stupid? Putting a date on your site for when you'll have it back up. It's going to take you forever."
Sez Kyle: "Yes. I am stupid."
So yeah, it's taking me forever to pull everything together. But I'm on it. Soon, I swear. In the meantime, a preview of thngs to come:

Downer 28: An acquaintance our hero would sooner forget reappears. Later, Downer proves he's as big a jerk as ever by making a dangerous wager with the grugach.

Downer 29: The big archery contest is resolved decisively. Back in Oubliette, some of the biggies get to the bottom of things with the original Fiend Folio's most obscure character.

In Mona's AoW campaign, art director Sean Glenn plays a valley elf, Taan. We've sussed a nice sense of what they're all about these days, but we're having a harder time pinpointing what they look like. They're of hardier stock, but sources suggest they are almost identical, physically, to Grey Elves. I'm inclined to believe they "look" really different from other elves in dress and culture, rather than biologically. Anyone spent any time thinking about these guys, or know of a good source of data?

Three cheers for Sean Glenn! The kyle@superunicorn account is fixed. So, despite it being my least favorite cliche, "it's all good."

The last few Downers, as well as an archive of all the monsters I've done are up on my gallery page now. superunicorn.com/kyle I'll get all of the Downer "back issues" up eventually. It's a matter of bandwidth on the server and man hours. Perhaps I can at least post them in B&W. The blog will be up once Sean gets back into town and helps me set it up.

Lisa Stevens has charitably agreed to offer issues of my first comic on paizo.com. Round about '95 I produced two issues of Swerve, a sci-fi comic for Slave Labor Graphics.

I'll be revisiting the tales of fish-out-of water, intergalactic pretty boy racer, #23, "B~&~#ie" Richie Sandoz in my big 2005 project, and this is an opportunity to see where it started. I managed to pump out only two issues befre I realized I'd bitten off more than I can chew. Once my sabatical ends in 2005, you can expect to see a lot more of this world.

The Human Conspiracy has fabricated a pop-culture icon out of a UFO abducted dipsh*** earthman from the 80s to enter the infamous Grand Intergalactic Rally. Marvel as he, and his chaos driven ship, the Mach Turtle, dodge peril by cycling between awake and asleep 60 times a second. Will his sponsor, the nefarious toy company I-Friend, succeed in Operation: Serpent in the Basket? Pay and find out, punter!

I wanted to create a thread where I could field questions on Downer, other than "why is it wasting two pages a month of my magazine?" For that, see "Is Downer a Downer?"

I dig that many find it hard to follow, so if there's anything I can clear up, ask, and I'll do my best. Be patient, as I can only visit a couple times week.
