About Kronos AxegrinderUmmm... not a Backstory?: As torchlights create wavering shadows throughout the basement, a tall, well-built half-orc can be seen lying still upon the floor, his gray skin tone nearly matching the color of the floor. One might assume he's dead if it wasn't for the subtle rise and fall of his abdomen due to his breathing. A muffled thunderclap goes off in the distance. The *drip* *drip* *drip* of water can be heard echoing throughout the chamber. **[A halfling sits in the corner, rocking back and forth with his hands over his ears and murmuring something. ;)] The half-orc lies unconscious through it all, having no idea that when he wakes, he'll find himself in a place completely unfamiliar to him, and possess a gut feeling that he had a troubling dream he just is unable to recall. Well... that and his name which will trouble him even more... (**Couldn't halep
Kronos grips his axe tight, narrowing his eyes as he looks from within the trees to the settlement not far from him. He takes note of a couple of "guards" wearing what looks like homemade armor. One wields a pitchfork while the other wields a scythe. The one with the scythe seems to be slightly larger compared to the other one, but neither can match himself or his orc brethren. Looking from his right to his left, he takes in the small army of orcs and half-orcs with him. Out of the corner of his eye, he catches sight of their leader approaching him. He says something to him that Kronos just can't make out, but he points at the guard before drawing a finger across his neck. Nodding in complete understanding, Kronos turns to the enemy and grins wickedly. He thinks to himself: //'This is what I've been trained for my entire life. Wait... Has it?'// He ponders that a moment, trying to make sense of it but quickly gives up. It's just too difficult to think. //'Doesn't matter. I'm going to win this fight.'// Quickly taking off into a run, Kronos heads straight for the scythe-wielding human, raising his axe high as he charges, and LEAPS!; allowing his momentum to bring the axe down hard on the peasant, slicing him from his shoulder to waist, across his body, and completely through, cutting him not-so-neatly in half. The other guard, looking on in horror, instantly takes off, yelling some form of gibberish and warning the others. As that happens, the leader of the orc band yells something that also sounds like gibberish - Kronons wonders why he can't understand anything - and the entire party immediately charges the small settlement with the idea of killing and burning everyone and everything in their wake. Turning his focus back to the town, Kronos charges in, aiming to get as many kills as he can. As he runs, a vision comes before him. A female half-orc. Attractive with long black hair, skin as green as grass - completely unlike himself - and one that is quite recognizable to him. Somewhat taken aback, he slows before coming to a complete stop ... and the world around him seems to pause and wait... ------------------------------------------------------------------ The half-orc's body twitches. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Mother? She proceeds to respond but Kronos has a difficult time making anything out. What? I can't understand you. What? She smiles and reaches out to lay a loving hand upon his cheek, leans in close and whispers, Remember, Kronos. Remember what I taught you. His visage becoming one of questioning, What was it, Mother? I don't remember. It's... it's been so long since I last saw you. You've been gone for many years. Are you a spirit, Mother? She simply continues to smile, staring at him a moment before slowly removing her hand and repeating, Remember, Kronos, remember... before vanishing. NO! DON'T GO! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------ The half-orc's body jolts again, a low and painful moan escapes his lips, his right arm juts forward quickly, as if he's trying to grab something, before slowly returning by his side. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------ As she vanishes, the sounds of battle and the screams of terror return. Kronos finds himself confused for a moment before gathering his wits and charging back in. As he does, he never sees the human who waits in ambush and strikes him with a spear, albeit mostly superficially, before he dispatches him with ease. Continuing on, he catches a pair running into a home. Narrowing his eyes, he heads straight for them, preparing to finish them off just as quick. Stepping inside, Kronos stops and listens for any sound as he walks through. Making his way into the bedroom, he finally hears something. He makes his way to the closet and opens the door, staring deadeye at the woman who has a child wrapped in her arms. Turning to look at him, and visibly shaking, the terrified woman is keeps her body as a shield over the child. With tears streaming down her face, Please don't kill my child. I beg you. (Kronos finds it odd that he could understand that so clearly) Kronos cuts his eyes to the tiny human. The child, not much more than 4 or 5, seems to be unaffected by the giant half-orc with the massive axe towering over them. She tries to get out from behind her mother but she won't let her. No, darling, stay here. Stay here with mommy, okay? Kronos, wondering why he hasn't killed them yet, finds himself confused. Looking from the quaking mother to the calm child and then repeating the action, he eventually takes his right hand off the axe and reaches down, grabs the mother's arm - who tries in vain to break free as the tears stream heavily down her face - pulls her away from the child in a mechanical fashion, keeping his focus fixated on the little one. With the child free, Kronos watches her walk right up to him unafraid and grab the end of his forefinger. Looking WAY up at him... she grins. Kronos loses focus for a moment as somewhere deep down inside, he feels something strangely odd yet familiar. He doesn't understand it. He feels like he's torn between two worlds but even THAT doesn't make any sense to him. Refocusing, he cuts his attention back to the little girl. "You REALLY big!" she exclaims, giggling. Kronos then finds that his face feels weird. Like it's deformed, or possibly warped. He has clearly forgotten what a smile feels like or possibly has never experienced it.
A peaceful grin can be seen upon the half-orc as he continues to lie there unconscious. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- Not a moment later an orc bursts in, yelling something unintelligible at Kronos, looking quite angry with him as he sees the little girl holding his finger. She quickly lets go and runs to her mother, beginning to cry. Calmly looking from the girl to his fellow orc, a fire gets lit deep within the half-orc. He clenches his jaw as his anger rises. The orc continues to berate Kronos - at least, that's what it feels like to him - and he finds his fury increasing. He continues to yell gibberish at Kronos, points at the woman and her child, and then pulls out his oversized hammer. Stepping over near them, he grins sadistically. The mother covers up her baby and turns away, so as not to see the killing blow coming as they weep. The orc raises his hammer high, and then... a massive axe finds the back of his skull! Blood spraying everywhere as his head is split in two! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The half-orc's body twitches again. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hearing a loud *crunch!*, the woman jumps at the sound before slowly turning and looking, with one eye open, to see what happened. With gritted teeth, Kronos yanks his axe out angrily as it was lodged in the orc's body. Leaning down to the woman and her child, he whispers, Run. Out the back. Go. Now. Completely taken aback, she just nods her head vigorously as she takes her child and leaves, the tiny child giving one last wave and a smile as they leave hurriedly. Kronos, finding himself in a strange place mentally, unable to understand any of it, steps outside, looks around, and then...
