Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Ridin' a 'orse and pluggin' away wit' sticks isn't exactly the dwarvish mode o' battle," I say when offered a chance at jousting, turning down the offer.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Personally i would like to make sure that the area below the Spires are cleaned out of those unpleasant crab things that eat your brain. Also finish exploring those last couple of rooms.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"You're secret is safe with me," I say to Kerrigan, "I swear this by
Torag."

Then, musing on the rod in my hand, I follow back up to the festivities.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Yep to the rod of wonder. And i will work on leveling here when I get the chance.

Are we switching to the finished rules next month?

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"King's Ale," I say with some curiousity, "Which tale o' which king 'n 'is ale is that? Me kingdom is after being sadly lackin' in bards at the moment."

I grin at my own joke.

Appraise Rolls: (1d20+11=18, 1d20+11=20)

"Sure 'n I'll be glad ta be 'elpin'," I say distractedly, but my mind is still largely on the rod I am holding.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Appraise on the Rod: (1d20+11=28)

Utilizing detect magic, I give the rod a closer look, trying to analyze the weaves of magic around it to discern its function.

That roll should be good for an item with up to CL 13 creation requirement.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I look back at the store room and its contents.

"That's very generous o' you," I say. I motion to the others to go ahead and look to see if there is anything that they want.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Are ye thinkin' that the orcs were bein' led 'ere fer reasons o' this city," I ask, my curiosity aroused.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I can't help but grin and say, "Truly a mad man loaded wit' booze would be bein' a dangerous neighbor."

Then I say, trying for a more serious tone, "I take it ye are keepin' some secret in yer basement?"

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Allies to be sure," I say with all dwarfish seriousness, "And friends iffin' time permits. But if ye be 'avin' needs that we can be 'elpin' wit' then a 'elp we will fer all good folks must be standin' together in the face o' peril."

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I wait politely for a moment, willing to allow others their moment of fun, but when the silence seems to grow a little long, I harrumph my throat clear, stand and intone, "Somewhere the hammer fell... Somewhere thunder crashed... Somehere the anvil lay broken! Now was the moment of fate. Now was the moment of truth. The future hung uncertainly in the balance and gods themselves watched with bated breath. Feeling the weighty eyes of countless generations upon him, the valiant dwarf stepped over the threshhold and entered the room."

Rather than breaking up Tarren's 'boast' I thought I would move the treasure dividing discussion to this thread.

We have:

  • potion of nondetection
  • wand of magic missiles (12 charges)
  • wand of detect secret doors (37 charges)
  • cloak of charisma +2
  • ring of protection +1
  • bracers of armor +1
  • +1 dagger
  • platinum coin on a strange cord
  • 24 gems (25 gp each)

Tarren suggested 75 gp worth of gems each with the remainder going into a kitty. I'm fine with that if everyone else is.

Yintarah or myself could take the wands. A cleric would gain the most from the cloaks. I wouldn't mind keeping the coin to find out more about it. Some roguish fellow might like the potion. Any other thoughts on how to split it. Feel free to state what you would prefer and we can go from there.

My plans for the next week to allow the DM to npc Klyndak: 1) examine the items from Sarpis. 2)send a message back to the spires 3) visit the keep in order to obtain supplies for self.

Talk to you guys in a week.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Reinvigorated by the positive energy, I take one of the rings taken from the orcs and examine it closely.

Casting Detect magic, I search the auras of the ring to try and determine if it has any other properties besides featherfalling.

    Appraise: (1d20+11=19)

"These rings were requirin' a bit o' resources for them ta be makin' so many," I comment to Lord Kerrigan, "Someone was after wantin' yer keep very badly. Wit' the money they spent on the rings they coulda been buildin' their own fort."

"Was there anything else on their bodies?" I ask and go to examine Sarpis, casting Detect Magic when I am near the body (waiting if necessary for someone to bring it further down).

I will keep one of the rings for myself if nobody minds.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Aye, per'aps we will be restin' in the keep iffin' that's an invitation."

Before heading to the keep however, I want to find someway to send back word to the other dwarves of the successful obliteration of the orcs.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Well, iffin' these are the lot o' them then I will 'ave ta be sendin' word back ta the Spires that the threat is past."

"I thank ye fer the 'elp ye 'ave offered ta me 'n mine thus far."

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I answer the Lord of the Keep, "Aye, that was Sarpis. He fled from the Spires a while back when we were after discoverin' his evil nature. I'm glad ta be 'elpin' a neighbor as it were. Are there more o' these orcs around do ye think? Or was this their main host. N' I'm wonderin' iffin Sarpis was the ringleader o' this assault or merely a Captain inna larger army."

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"That was after goin' well," I say, mostly to myself, satisfied with the death of Sarpis, "Let's jes' be 'opin' 'e was the ringleader 'n not some 'enchman."

I then cast Spiderclimb on myself and head down the cliff to talk to the guardsmen.

I send the flaming sphere into one of the orcs and then pull out my crossbow and begin loading it.

    Damage?

Oops. Sorry. I'm pretty sure I rolled it but must have forgot to add it in for some reason.

    Flaming Sphere Damage: (2d6=10)

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I send the flaming sphere into one of the orcs and then pull out my crossbow and begin loading it.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Shoulda' targetted one o' the orcs," I growl to myself and try to calculate the distance between myself and Sarpis.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

    Flaming Sphere Damage: (2d6=6)

I make sure to keep the flaming sphere on Sarpis this round and then with a word and a gesture, I send three bolts of arcane force towards the other magic user, hoping his protection may be gone.

    Magic Missile Damage: (3d4+3=10)

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I cast Feather Fall on Hru as he jumps.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Thanks friend - iffin' ye are jumpin' I'll see ta it ye are after landin' safely."

If Hru wants he can use my featherfall spell.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

    Will Save: (1d20+6=25)

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"What?" I manage as the orc axe slices into me, surprised to find him so near me.

    Medic!

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Seeing that the orcs up above are mostly dealt with, I focus my attention on Sarpis, summoning a ball of fire under his feet.

    Ball of Fire Damage: (2d6=6)

"Burn ye villanous cur!" I shout

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Vile Dog of a Man!" I yell at Sarpis.

Meanwhile my mind is trying to calculate the odds against us.

Four orcs, now three I am guessing, left topside. How many below?

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I beat the initiative and cast a fireball, as posted above.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

    Initiative: (1d20+1=18)

Having lost the element of surprise without even the benefit of having struck my foe, I gather together the arcane energies required for making fire and condensing them into my bonded warhammer, I hurl the bead of energy at the group of orcs below, aiming particularly at the man leading them.

i.e. I cast Fireball using my bonded item.
    Fireball Damage: (5d6=16)

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Let me be softenin' them up," I say as others gather at the cliffs.

I begin with a scorching ray, aimed at Sarpis, with the intention of following this with a well placed, hammer powered, fireball.

Uttering a few choice arcane words, I point the tip of my hammer towards my foe.

    Scorching Ray (touch): (1d20+3=8)
    Scorching Ray Damage: (4d6=17)

Or at least towards the vicinity of my foe.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

The success or failure of the hold person will determine my next move when I can see the group below.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"I have a ray that might give him pause," I say, "or maybe a fireball."

Moving quickly past the fallen orcs, I go to the edge of the cliff Hru is indicating and cautiously look over, not wanting to be made a pin cushion by possible allies.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

    Warhammer attack (Bull strength)(flanking): (1d20+7+2+2=15)
    Two-handed damage (bull strength): (1d8+7=9)

My attack on the orc that connected with me has more energy than skill behind it.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

It's fine, I just thought I was further away was all. :)

    I'll move for our fireweaver...

The flaming sphere rolls suddenly away from the catapult and towards the group of orcs engaged in melee.

    Flaming Sphere Damage: (2d6=8)

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Ouch, I got into combat rather quickly.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Yintarah directs the flaming sphere underneath one of the orcs attacking Trouble.

    Flaming Sphere Damage: (2d6=9)

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

For the next round: Following my fireball, I begin moving towards the orcs fighting with Kelborn, casting bull strength as I move.

I shake my head at the apparent lack of dead orcs from the fireball blasts, thinking to myself, they were such fine blasts too.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I send my next fireball at the group of orc crossbow men not being attacked by Kelborn.

    Fireball: (5d6=21)

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Not knowing where the orcs are exactly on the grid, I'll let the DM position my fireball for maximum casualties without hitting any of my own lads. Though doesn't the fireball hit before they get close, seeing as how I'm a few seconds ahead of them and the affect is pretty instantaneous?

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I'll position myself on the map within fireball range.

"Lass, ye be burnin' the catapult," I say to the fireweaver. "I'll handle the urk's workin' it."

And then I proceed to cast a fireball, aiming it at the group of seven (but if possible, hitting both them and the group of three loading).

    Initiative: (1d20+1=14)
    Fireball: (5d6=20)

"Torag take ye!" I yell as the fireball detonates with a whoosh.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

    How far away are we?

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I motion for my group to move up quickly towards the scouts. As we move I grip my bonded warhammer in my hands.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I don't believe we were supposed to be that spread out, were we?"

"I can be throwin' a fireball at 'em," I say with some happiness.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I cast mage armor as we begin to move towards the battle.

    Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

    Untrained Survival Check: (1d20+1=10)

"I suggest some o' us be scoutin' out ahead. Ye Kannonfodders can be workin' up a defense 'ere. Show these lads the sort o' work dwarves do wit' such things. O' the rest o' ye, who wants ta be trekkin' wit' me out a ways to espy the lay o' the land?"
