Hey guys, I believe I'll have to withdraw.

We are selling our company and are in the middle of the process. I'm constantly tired and anxious with it and by the end of the day the little amount of time I get, I just can't bring myself to participate in all my games. It could become easier the next month or not, I'm not sure.

I love the idea of this game, but sadly I need to cut down some games in order for me not to burn out from PBP altogether.

I wish you all a great game!

"Kizzirark is more than fine. Kizz will even do, I do not really mind." The badger shrugs. "I would be very surprised if you can do anything to offend me, Dahlia. I have a very thick skin and don't give a f*#% for many things."

Kizzirark set off the first trap with a twig and I think we all assumed that would be the procedure when we discussed disarming them. When the GM asked for the rolls, I in particular thought our original procedure would not be allowed.

Kizzirark nods to Rowan. "No fire tonight."

With the proposed checks I think Tawny and Squakowk should be the ones making the checks as the rest of us have far worse modifiers.

"Careless work." Kizz says, using a twig to disarm the one closest to him. "Did any of you see a warning? I did not... so this is either work of the bandits or a hunter that cares not of what he hunts."

The vastness of the Green gives Kizzirark conflicting feelings of freedom and loneliness. So he drinks to drive the uneasiness away. It reminds him of the first months after he was banished. So he drinks, to drive that thought away as well.

The badger doesn't recall studying maps or whatnot, and his tracking skills were more than rusted, but still, he does his best, stopping hear and there to try to catch a telling smell.

Kizzirark has Intelligence 8, so I believe it is more fair for me to go along with others in this matter. Perhaps we can find some tracks to help us, primarily from the beetle and the cart.

Kizzirark nods to the others, then turns to Oleg. "How many days from here to their territory?"

"We'll get'em, but if we don't, ye better be on your way out o' here for their revenge will be dire. Ye gives us time to go there and back and one more day. If we do not return, you pack and flee."

As dawn greets them, Kizzirark yawns as he checks on the prisoners, just to be safe. He checks their bindings without much care for their comfort, eyeing them from time to time as if hungry.

He then eats his porridge to his heart's content, only jumping to the fruits when the porridge is over. When out in the wilds, he'd have plenty of time to eat fruits, but a good porridge...

Kizzirark reads Dahlia's look and after a while he speaks. "You have a good heart, you do, but we are not in the safe lands of Redwall anymore."

"Here, and in the North, life is a different beast, Dahlia. I think letting these rats live is a mistake and I'd rather have their heads in a pike to send the message that bandits aren't welcome here."

Kizzirark awakes, eyes still blind with rage, but as he tries to get up he feels the pain again. "Wra... still alive." He spits some blood over the rats as Bertram keeps healing him.

He eyes Oleg and then Haps and his rats, still enraged. Kizz shoulders the beetle so one of his horns are pointing up, then, in a single move, grabs Haps and shoves him through the bettle's horn, impaling the bandit leader so that the point of the horn exits through his mouth.

His eyes, now less hazy, look at the surviving bandits. "I recon we need not many versions of the same story."

@GM: I think I need some help understanding the mechanics of the Bloodwrath ability of badgers.

Bloodwrath: Once per day, whenever Kizzirark takes damage, he flies into a frenzy for 1 minute, gaining a +2 racial bonus to Constitution and Strength, but a –2 penalty to AC. This cannot be ended early.

The "This cannot be ended early" portion is pretty vague and I'm not sure what is the intent of it. I remember in 3.0-3.5 there was a PrC that could not end its rage early and if there was no enemies nearby the character would be forced to attack his allies. Not sure if this would be the case here.

Also, there is no guidance on what happens when I fall unconscious. Does it end? Or now that I'm up again I should resume the bloodwrath?

Kizzirark really doesn't want to deal with the beetle, but with it staying between him and the other bandits, there is little choice. "Wra!"

He moves as fast as his legs can to put the beetle between himself and little Dahlia before striking with his sword...

Kizzirark's shaking paws reach its peak when the bandits arrive. He flexes them once and twice, takes another gulp from his flask and then they are steady. He peeks through the gap in the window at the courtyard, waiting for the right moment.

Will we be using a map?

Kizzirark sits alone in his room, taking the time to don his scale armor. He notices it is rusting in a couple places. He'd need to clean it and sand it properly, something he pretends he'll do later.

The badger then checks his daggers and sword, and all three slide out of their sheaths smoothly. Too smoothly, to the point of bringing back memories of time where he had the weapon more out of its sheath than within it.

His hands were shaking, both from fear and anticipation. He reaches for his flask to take a loooong gulp. To this day, all the smart people had yet to come up with a better cure for hangover and lack of courage than some good gulps of more alcohol. Say something about Kizzirark, says he is very diligent in drinking his medicine.

"I think you are going in the wrong direction with this ruse. I've been in a fair number of ambushes. On both sides of it. Ambushes that were good and that were bad." Kizz chimes in.

"Ambushes go wrong when the target sees something makes no sense." He points to Oleg and Svetlana. "These folks have an agreement with the bandits, a routine, and they've been promised violence if they do not do so."

"Say I'm the bandit, I come here and see the wheel broken, but I do not see the couple here to explain and beg for their lives, I'd say this smells bad." He shakes his head. "I come here and don't see one of them, I think they are dead or gone. If they dead, this loot is a trap. If they gone, they'd have taken the stuff with them."

"Best ambush is changing nothing and having the couple present, but that is risky for them." The badger reaches for his flask and takes a big gulp. "Next best thing is when you force your target to act fast, no time to think."

"How about." Before he continues, he raises his eyebrows. "Here me out, I'm not well studied as ye folks, but I know more than my share of bandits ne'er-do-wells, outlaws and other scum. How about Tawnystripe and Rowan rough up their outfits and pretend to be bandits by the cart, talking aloud how lucky they are for finding this stuff here?"

"Say I'm the bandit, I come here and see two smart asses trying to take what is mine. Just two. Have to deal with them. I bring my mates, have them cover the exits and overwhelm the f%!#ers."

Kizzirark is nonplussed by Oleg's outburst as it was nothing compared to the bloodwrath. Nothing at all.

"I will help," he says at last, "but we'll discuss our payment this evening." Already anticipating some backlash from the goody two paws he found himself bound to, he adds to Oleg. "Nice words and good gestures are for weddings and occasionally friends."

"You want a job well done you hire. If you are good at what you do, you charge for it. That is how deals are done, a spit on the paw and a handshake, eye in the eye, no promises or vows, just good business."

Turning to the madmouse, he adds. "I like the plan. I'm too large to be sneaking around, but you lock them inside with me... I'll get rid of them if they do not do so with me first." To Dahlia, he adds. "This is why they sent me."

"If you want to join me in the business, so be it, but you better give me some room... and remember, animals become beasts when trapped."

Kizzirark sighs as the eccentric mouse is add to the team, but doesn't complain. He doesn't really like how he keeps referring to himself as us, but believing he won't like the answer, he decides not to ask.

"Many times a smaller group can do a better job than a whole patrol," Kizzirark says, starting to count on his paw, "ambushes, scouting, murder, infiltration." The way he talks, there is a hint that he had taken part on each of these.

Kizzirark turns to the others. "I think he is on 'shrooms."

Muttering to Kizzirark next to him, Rowan lowers his voice so that, hopefully, the Abbot and Badger Mother cannot hear: "...I mean, most of that was just sound advice, not fortune telling. Expect change, trust your instincts, don't get blackmailed."

Rowan shrugs.

"Oldest trick in the book. You tell a bunch of vague nonsense and hope for your target to feel the blanks for you," he replies, scratching his eyes and agreeing with the Badger Mother. "Very common in the North."

Kizzirark follows the others, not really sad about crossing the gate.

Away from Redwall, Kizzirark spends his first day in a sour mood, not really talking much even when approached by the others. From time to time, he sips from his flask. During one of the stops, it becomes clear to the others that most of the badger's pack is filled with an assortment of bottles of alcohol, as if his mission was actually to open a tavern in the middle of nowhere.

He warms up a bit on the second and third day. He seems happier during meals, when he drinks more and even joins Tawnystripe into singing. It is a pleasant surprise that the brutish badger actually can sing quite well!

As the old fort comes into view, he seems to become wary, drawing his sword just in case and taking point. "Journey? What journey you talk about, mouse?"

I'd like to vouch for one of the players in the recruitment. Stormraven is a great player.

If we could get someone that is not a full BAB class, that would be great IMO, because we are already very melee/damage focused right now.

Kizzirark manages to shrug. "No disrespected, but I have never believed such... things. But do your thing."

Kizzirark slumbers on, dragging his paws and squinting at the sun, as if it rose up just to vex him. Not in a particularly bright mood, he sips from a flask as he awaits for the three dignitaries to say their piece.

Kizzirark grits his teeth and musters all his strength not to hiss and growl. Smiles and laughs and lies. He shakes his head and returns to his seat, tossing the gift on the table.

When she returns to the guest table, she shares the feast with her new companions and looks over their gifts admiringly. She swallows and bravely speaks to the badger. "Such a well-made talisman that looks to be. We are indeed fortunate to share this adventure with you, friend!" she chirps. "With all of us," she adds. "Why, I feel already that Martin has blessed us. With such an august company of rangers we cannot help but succeed on our mission."

Kizzirark pushes the belt towards the mouse. "If you liked it, you can keep it... and you are mistaken, dear. Oh, you are far from fortunate." He then takes his mug and empties it in large gulps. Once that is done, he gets to his feet and leaves the feast. The gift stays on the table.

"That I will." Kizzirark answers as he gets to his feet, eyeing the crowd, then the Abbot and Sammson.

@Squakowk: Here on the boards we always follow a similar formatting pattern so it becomes easier for everyone to read and not lose important information.

When you are making a post, beneath the text window and the FAQ link, there is a section that shows you the formatting code. Click the "show" button and it will expand (it will not open a new window or hamper what you've written so far, so no worries).

We use "bold" with question marks for dialog. Italics for internal thoughts, and both bold and italics for mental communications, like telepathy (which usually happens only at higher levels).

"There is thinking and there is overthinking." Kizzirark remarks, not being famous for doing any of the two. "If you've never braved the wilds, take this at heart: You cherish the food when there is food. Drink when there is drink. A soft bed, better yet with company!"

"None of that is a given on the wilds."

Kizzirark either doesn't notice the Abbot or doesn't care, continuing to eat and drink to his fullest. He was heavier than the others four combined, so it was at least a bit justified.
