Kiro grew up in a small town on the Vanji River, approximately 200 miles from Lake Ocota. She had a very happy childhood, with a close-knit and large extended family. As she grew, she always knew she wanted to be a hunter and a child of the wilderness. When it was time to pick her companion, a sleek young pantheress was right there, looking for her. She spent much time traveling with her family as a youngster, and learned the area for hundreds of miles around her home. They always avoided Usaro, but regularly traveled to Hyrantam, Kokutang, Jula, and especially Bloodcove.
Not long after her eighteenth birthday, her family sent her and Laga, her panther, off on a trip to conclude a trade agreement with some traders in Hyrantam. While there, she met an undine druid who also had a panther companion. The two became fast friends, and before long, Kiro took Ula back to meet her family on the Vanji River.
Ula's wanderlust and desire to seek out new foods and ways of preparing them couldn't keep her in one place for long, however, and Kiro decided to continue traveling with Ula instead of staying with the family business. The pair, along with the cats Zana and Laga, headed down the river to Bloodcove, lone bastion of civilization in the area, to learn the local cooking styles. When Ula had learned enough, they boarded a ship headed for Eleder, where Ula hoped to discover even more new foods and recipes.
