APPEARANCE
Khev is a tall, thin man of Chelaxian descent. His facial features are rather cold and severe, but his dark eyes hold the gaze of a desperate man. He appears to be somewhat young, perhaps around 24 to 26 years of age. His skin is quite pale (some would say pallid), and his shoulder-length black hair is oiled and slicked back. He wears a dirty black robe with a prominent collar that frames his head. A satchel is slung over one of his shoulders, and a greatsword rests on his back. A dagger hangs in its sheath on his belt.
BACKGROUND
Spoiler:
Khev had a terrible childhood growing up in Korvosa. Khev's father was a Hellknight in the service of the King while his mother was a Chelish devil binder who trafficked in illegal drugs from the rest of the continent. His father's dedication to the King often conflicted with his mother's dealings, so there were constant, and often quite dangerous, fights in the Vexral household. Eventually, Khev's mother's contacts in the underworld found out about her connection with a retainer of the royal family and came to assassinate the Vexral family. Their large house was destroyed in the ensuing battle, and Khev thinks his parents were killed as well. He fled into the Korvosa streets, clutching only a few books he saved from the conflagration.
One of the books he managed to save was a treatise on vestige binding his mother had received in one of her many dealings with shady underworld magic casters. Khev, now young man out alone on the road, took to studying the treatise and eventually managed to bind his first vestige: Naberius, the Grinning Hound. With the silver tongue Naberius granted him, he was able to talk his way across Varisia towards Magnimar, which he saw as a city of freedom. Khev never made many friends, for his childhood had scarred him quite too much and he was never able to connect with others more than superficially and his wits were not all intact. His eccentricity usually became apparent to anyone who spent enough time with him. In addition to his other qualities, his connection to the vestiges of ancient powers usually made people see him as little more than a monster.
What wait for him in Magnimar was much different than he had anticipated. He found it incredibly hard to blend in with the normal population and pursue a normal job. The temptation of pact magic was too great for him to ignore. His strange powers, and the callousness with which he used them, earned him the enmity of the church of Sarenrae, and he was eventually driven out of Magnimar.
Desperate and abandoned again, Khev hurried along the coast to the northeast, and eventually found himself in the town of Sandpoint.
MOTIVATIONS AND GOALS
Spoiler:
Khev is driven by a need to belong to something, but his conscience is conflicted by an overwhelming curiosity about the nature of pact magic and the depths of power that it could bring. He honestly wants to make friends and live a normal life, but he finds it extremely hard to understand the feelings of others and feels actual comfort when dealing with the unknowable forces of the vestiges he binds to his soul.
He has high hopes that in Sandpoint, he can find some way to prove his worth as a person to others and perhaps find a place in this confusing world. At the same time, he hungers for more knowledge about vestiges and the powers they bestow upon their binders. Deep in the back of his mind, he has the grim thought that neither of his wishes will ever come true. He's not quite suicidal yet, but he's quite desperate and will try extremely dangerous and life-threatening things in order to accomplish either of his goals.
