Keara was born as an only child of an unwed mother, Celia Caradas, in a tiny, almost insignificant village on the shores of lake Reykal, just north of New Stetven, Brevoy's capital city.
Her mother had left the village years before, to find fortune and a better future in New Steven. Working as a maid in one of the great mansions inside the city, soon her breathtaking beauty caught the eye of the lord's son, and they became lovers. But when eventually she turned out to be pregnant, scared of his family's reaction, the lord's son put an abrupt end to their relationship, urged the young woman to return to her home town to have the baby in secret, and he himself left the capital for his traditional family holdings, far up north, near Port Ice. Life wasn't easy for young Keara and her mother. Money was always tight, and both herself and her mother were object of much unwanted attention: herself, attracting stern looks and disapproving frowns for being virtually the only bastard child in a very conservative town; and her mother, with her still stunning beauty almost lining up suitors at their doorstep, not all of them taking kindly to her inevitable refusal. The town's children were no less troublesome, picking on her mercilessly for being "different". And indeed young Keara, with her pale skin, dark red hair, and most unusual eyes the colour of pure amethyst, looked everyday more and more like her mother, and while her appearance was a sure hint at the beauty she would one day possess, at that moment it served only to single her out. Those were also the years her powers started to manifest, often unpredictably and out of her conscious control. The terrified girl was told by her mother about the powers coursing through their family, that indeed she herself possesed, even if just a fraction of Keara's own, as became evident soon enough. Her mother taught her what little she knew about her talent, how to harness it, shape it, and bend it to her will, but above all else how to keep it secret and hide it from strangers. With no real friends and nothing else to cath her interest, she began spending more and more time near the outskirts of the neighboring Gronzi forest, just north of the village, training her abilities. There she would find beauty, peace, and quiet... And acceptance, as if the flowers, the trees, the grass, the forest itself would look upon her and welcome her presence.
As the years passed, Keara blossomed into a lovely young woman, showing a truly uncanny resemblance to her mother, with the same bright smile, crystalline laugh, delicate features, and generous curves. Indeed the village children, now young adults themselves, were the first to notice the metamorphosys, and went from bullying her to courting her almost overnight.
During the last winter, Keara's mother became ill and never recovered. On her deathbed she encouraged her daughter to follow her dreams, like she tried to, so many years prior. As a memento, she gave her daughter her most treasured possession, her golden locket, and at last confessed the true identity of the man portrayed with her inside it: her beloved and Keara's own father, Alexander Surtova, son of Domani Surtova, and King Noleski's cousin. Keara was speechless. Could her father really be a noble? Could she be related to the very king of Brevoy? Should she go looking for him, or would be better to forget all about it? Should she follow her mother's advice and search for fortune elsewhere? A thousand questions crowded her mind, but one thing was for certain: with her mother's death, there was nothing left for her there. That place was no longer her home, and she'd have to find her place somewhere else. Not a month after the funeral, still shocked and deeply saddened, but with her resolve stronger than ever, she packed up her things, closed down her house, and with her inseparable animal companion, went on into the great world, not looking back once. Appearance and Personality:
Keara stands quite tall at 5' 9", with a perfectly proportioned body, delicate features and an elegant composure. She sports long, straight dark red hair, a pearl-white smile, and a cute slightly upturned nose.
Her most distinguished feature remains surely her unique big bright eyes, the colour of pure amethyst. Those who knew both Keara and her mother Celia have always been bewildered by just how much Keara perfectly resembles her mother.
Quick to anger and to forgiveness, sociable and open even if not used to having friends, she is eager to explore the world outside her small village and win for herself a better future. |
