About Kaythor

Appearance: A man in his mid-twenties, Kaythor is a lean but athletically built man. He is often seen in his chainmail carrying a shield and sword at his side, however this equipment is often covered by a long, dark gray cloak. Dangling from an onyx chain around his neck is a holy symbol of Asmodeus matching the symbol on the back of his gauntlets. He is often quiet, but carries a demeanor of wisdom beyond his years. Not much takes him by surprise, as if he has seen it all before.

Background:
Given the opportunity, we would all leap at a chance for a second life, no matter the cost. For most of us, we never get this chance, but for Kaythor this chance came and he leapt at it.

Kaythor's first life was under the name if Samuel. Samuel was a relatively simple man of humble upbringing. A fisherman by trade, he worked the nets with calloused hands for his whole life. Dreams filled his head as a young man of traveling the world and adventuring, but as the reigns of poverty gripped his family ever tighter, his fate as a fisherman was sealed. Sacrificing his dreams for the safety and wellbeing of his family seemed to be the only option at the time, however it was one he had always regretted.

It was two weeks after his 50th birthday that they came to his small village. The clerics of the Prince of Darkness displayed power and insight that Samuel did not even think possible. As he had spent his entire life within the bounds of his village and the surrounding area, this untold power filled him with amazing excitement and fear. If such great and powerful beings were mere servants of a greater, than what wasn't possible?

The beings which had visited the village were more than mere men. They were the shadowy servants of Asmodeus himself, elans of immense psionic power. With all their power and pageantry they brought with them one promise. This promise was that of another life. They would give a piece of their power and a life similar to their own for a small price. This price was unwavering devotion and allegiance to Asmodeus.

Samuel pondered on their offer for three days. Three days of no sleep, three days of no eating, three days of considering the possibilities of what a life as one of these powerful beings would hold. He could be so much more than a fisherman, so much more than his father and his father before him. He could be truly great, greater than any man he or his family had ever known.

On the third day at sunrise he came to the men and offered up his life. Pledging allegiance to Asmodeus he entered his new life as Kaythor.

Kaythor was not Samuel, as all of his past was shed. For years he traveled from small village to small village, seeing the world in a way he never could have dreamed to as Samuel. Every new place he went to was filled with people full of wonder and amazement at his newly found power, but it wasn't enough for him. He wanted to spread the law of Asmodeus across the land, to bring others under this amazing power that he had found.

In his travels he had heard of the kingdom of Talingarde. A kingdom based on the power of Mitra. Led by a weak and merciful deity, Asmodeus and Kaythor looked upon Talingarde as ripe for the picking. He began his journey through the land. Every day was filled with danger as he knew he was unwanted in this weak and pitiful land. Mitra was merciful though, and Kaythor hoped to prey on this mercy.

Moving in the cloak of darkness he continually brought the word of Asmodeus to the people of Talingarde. Numerous close calls caused him to worry, but Asmodeus kept him under his cloak of secrecy as he continued to do his will. Converts weren't numerous, but he was planting the seeds of heresy and sedition in the minds of the people, and this could not go unnoticed forever.

Sir Balin of Karfeld kicked in the door of Kaythor's tavern room as his transgressions finally caught up to him. The fight was over in a fleeting moment and before long he was in chains and headed directly for Branderscar prison.

Now most people are only given one chance. Samuel had been given a second, and now Kaythor was about to be given a third. A third shot at life as Asmodeus smiled upon him through Cardinal Thorn and Tiadora. Tiadora did what was necessary to help Kaythor escape, for which Kaythor was eternally grateful. Grateful enough for him to take interest in the Knot of Thorns, and the green house in Talingarde. Packing a bag and heading towards the green house, he was ready to take on his third life, hoping that this one would be the charm.
